Blockchain in Healthcare: Securing Patient Data, Protecting Privacy and Ensuring Medical Supply Chain Integrity
Abstract
The healthcare industry faces significant challenges in terms of securing patient data,
protecting privacy and ensuring the integrity of the medical supply chain. With the rise of cyber
threats and logistical disruptions, traditional systems often fail to provide the necessary security
and transparency. This study explores the potential of blockchain technology as a robust
solution to these critical issues. The core features of blockchain —decentralization,
immutability, and transparency—offer promising enhancements to the security and efficiency
of healthcare operations. This study aimed to investigate the practical applications of
blockchain in safeguarding patient data and optimizing supply chain processes. Through a
mixed-methods approach combining quantitative data analysis and qualitative case studies, this
study assesses the effectiveness of blockchain implementations in diverse healthcare settings.
The expected outcomes include a detailed evaluation of the blockchain's impact on data
protection and supply chain integrity, providing actionable insights and recommendations for
healthcare stakeholders (Younis et al., 2022). By addressing these pivotal areas, this study
sought to contribute to the development of more secure, transparent, and efficient healthcare
systems, ultimately improving patient care and operational resilience (Islam et al., 2023).
