Weight Summary
Fabricated Wt. - Bare Weight Shell and bottom plate – 543 Kgs
Shop Test Wt. - Fabricated Weight + Water ( Full ) kgm – 1311 Kgs (assumed full of tank)

1. Tank Details
2. Material Properties
ASTM A 240 SS 316 is used for the shell and base plate.
Material Ultimate Tensile Strength: As per ASTM A36 or equivalent- 515 MPa
3. Design Loads
Dead Load: Weight of the tank shell and bottom plate – 580.1 Kgs
Seismic Load: As per Annex E of API 650 this is considered as SUG1 as the fluid is not essential post-
earthquake recovery and essential to the life and health of public (Which is SUG 2) nor hazardous / lack
secondary control or provide direct service to major facilities (SUG 3).
Hence no seismic loading is assumed as the process fluid is SUG 1 - condensate water.
4. Shell Design
Shell Thickness Calculation: Minimum 5 mm. (As per Annex A – A.1.5- Table A.2.A) The Shell thickness is
calculated as per Table A.4
t = 4.9D(H-0.3)G
----------------- + CA
E* 145
Where D= Dia of the tank in meters = 1 m
Page 4 of 7
H= Design liquid level in meters = 2 m
E= Joint efficiency factor – 0.85 % for 10 % Radiography on seam welding and 100 % on T’s
As per 5.4.1 bottom plate thickness shall not be less than 6 mm + corrosion allowance. Hence in our case
it will be minimum 6 mm.
Tmin = P.D
--------- + CA
2.S.F
t min = Minimum required thickness of the bottom plate in mm
P = Design pressure (hydrostatic pressure) = 19.62 Kpa + Self weight which is 3.77 Kpa = 23.39 KPa
S = Allowable stress of the material (assumed at 60% of the yield strength = 123 MPa
CA = Corrosion allowance = 0
6. Nozzle Design
Page 5 of 7
Determine the difference between the calculated nozzle neck thickness (t_n1) and the thickness of the
tank shell at the nozzle location.
Weeping holes are generally located at the lowest point of the reinforcement pad to facilitate drainage.

This design provides a basic outline for designing the atmospheric pressure tank according to API 650
standards. Additionally, specific design parameters and calculations may vary depending on the project
requirements and site conditions.
