BUILDING THE

NETWORK LOGIC
Network Time Analysis

Example 1: Building Construction
It helps visualize and analyze the sequence

NETWORK
of activities, their dependencies, and the
estimated duration of each. This information

TIME is crucial for:

ANALYSIS
Network time analysis
is a vital tool in
construction project
management, especially
for building construction.
etwork Analysis System (NAS) provides a
N
comprehensive method for project planning, scheduling
and controlling. A general title for the technique of
defining and coordinating work by a graphical diagram
that shows work activities and the interdependences of
activities.

Cost Control
 HAT IS ACTIVITY?
W

Performance of a task required to complete

the project, such as design of foundations,
review of design, procure steel contracts, or
form concrete columns. An activity requires
time, cost, or both.

WHAT IS A NETWORK?

Performed to achieve the project

objective. A diagram to represent the
relationship of activities to complete
the project.

May be drawn as either an "arrow diagram" or a "precedence diagram"

COMMON TERMS AND FORMULAS :

Duration (D) - estimated time required to

perform an activity.
Early Start (ES) - earliest time an activity
can be started.
Early Finish (EF) - EF= ES + D
Late Finish (LF) - latest time an activity can
be finished.
COMMON TERMS AND FORMULAS :

 ate Start (LS) - LS = LF - D

L
Total Float (TF) - TF = LF - EF = LS - ES
Free Float (FF) - amount of time may be delayed w/o delaying ES of
the immediate following activity.
Critical Path - a series of interconnected activities through the
network diagram and it determines the minimum time to complete
the project.
Dummy Activity- an activity that indicates that any activity following
the dummy cannot be started until the activity or activities preceding
the dummy are completed.
NETWORK SYMBOLS
 HAT IS CPM?
W

CPM - most commonly used technique for

scheduling in construction and it mainly
calculates the minimum time needed to
complete a construction project alongside
the possible start and end times for the
different activities.
 ENIFITS OF CPM:
B

- helps you determine the most

important tasks that you need to
closely manage.
- helps you curb time overruns and
accelerates delivery times.
- enables you to track your progress
against your planned progress.
EY STEPS TO A SUCCESSFUL CPM:
K

1. IDENTIFY EACH ACTIVITY OR TASK IN YOUR CONSTRUCTION PROJECT.

--- use the work breakdown structure (WBS) to specify each of your project
activities.

2. ORGANIZE THE ACTIVITY SEQUENCES AND DEPENDENCIES.

--- Identify what tasks occurs before another task begins.

 . LAYOUT THE NETWORK DIAGRAM.

3
--- the chart visually illustrates the order of all your construction activities based
on the dependencies you have established.

. ESTIMATE THE TIME NEEDED TO COMPLETE EACH ACTIVITY.

4
--- where you can precisely estimate the completion time for each activity.

WHAT is A
GANTT CHART?
a type of bar chart that illusrates the tasks, activities
time, and their relationships.

simple and easy to interpret difficult to update
effective technique for overall limited application for detailed construction

ADVANTAGES

Clear Visualization of the Project Timeline

Improved Project Planning and Scheduling
