European Standard EN 10020 : 2000 has the status of a DIN Standard.

A comma is used as the decimal marker.

National foreword
This standard has been prepared by ECISS/TC 6.
The responsible German body involved in its preparation was the Normenausschuss Eisen und Stahl (Steel
and Iron Standards Committee), Technical Committee Einteilung, Benennung und Benummerung von
Stählen.
Amendments
This standard differs from the September 1989 edition as follows:
a) The class ‘base steels’ has been combined the class for unalloyed quality steels.
b) Based on their chemical composition, steels are now classified as unalloyed steels, stainless steels
and other alloy steels.
c) The ‘70 % rule’ for specified combinations of elements has been dropped.
d) The alloying contents relevant to the classification into unalloyed and alloy steels have been brought
into line with the Harmonized System Nomenclature of the World Customs Organization (WCO).
e) Annexes A to E have been deleted, with Annexes A and B having been superseded by CEN Report
CR 10313.
f) The standard has been editorially revised.
