U.S. Quick Chip and Minimum Terminal Configuration ADVT/CDET Use Cases

U.S. Quick Chip and Minimum Terminal Configuration ADVT /

CDET Use Cases

Objective

Simplify testing process for all U.S. POS and ATM environments following Visa minimum U.S. online only
terminal configuration and Quick Chip. This version incorporates all U.S. use cases for both Acquirer Device
Validation Toolkit (ADVT) version 7.0 and all published updates, which is the contact chip testing toolkit, and
Contactless Device Evaluation Toolkit (CDET) version 2.3 and all published updates, which is the contactless
testing toolkit, including ancillary and U.S. Debit.
Note: Reference to BIN in this document indicates Issuing (ISO) BIN.

Business Justification

Acquirers participating in the Visa U.S. Chip Acquirer Self Accreditation Program can use this minimum set of test
scripts for contact and contactless chip point of sale (POS) solutions. To help minimize negative cardholder and
merchant experiences while using a contact or contactless chip card or device at the point of sale, it is
recommended that acquirers and merchants deploy POS solutions that are configured to only process
transactions in an online environment. These deployments will only need to perform the minimum set of test
scripts outlined in this document. All errors should be resolved and all tests passed before the terminal is
deployed. Refer to each test case’s pass/fail criteria for more details.

Visa may request logs, receipts, and test results for problem resolution, and ask the acquirer or merchant to
undertake specific post-deployment testing if Visa determines that a terminal is causing acceptance issues in the
field.

If a terminal supports offline functionality (e.g. ODA), that deployment must use the latest global versions of
ADVT and CDET. Due to the zero-floor limit in the U.S., Offline Data Authentication (ODA) is not recommended.

Acquirers submitting terminal test results into the Chip Compliance Reporting Tool (CCRT) should use this
document, which is a subset of ADVT and CDET test cases and U.S. specific test cases.

If a terminal is not configured for any offline functionality, that deployment can use the minimum U.S. online
only terminal configuration ADVT version, which includes Quick Chip. It will allow for implementation to proceed
with reduced testing cycles, fewer test cases, and a faster implementation time. This ADVT version is also
intended for regression testing – i.e., scenarios that lead to retesting due to changes in terminal configuration
that impact the payment application chip processing or the kernel.

If deploying online only terminals that support Quick Chip and the terminal previously completed ADVT, then
regression testing is recommended using this ADVT version. If it is a new online only terminal deployment with
Quick Chip support, the U.S. online only Minimum Terminal Configuration ADVT can be used.

Similar to ADVT, CDET allows acquirers to validate the correct configuration of their contactless readers. The
toolkit is also a self-administered solution. For new reader deployments, the acquirer executes each applicable

Terminal Applicability

CDET test to confirm that the expected outcome is achieved. CDET is an incremental set of contactless test cases.
It consists of a set of mandatory test cases and a few conditional test cases. Conditional test cases depend on
the terminal configuration and support of U.S. Debit.

Visa’s streamlined U.S. acquirer contactless chip L3 self-certification process provides an autonomous, simple,
and fast process to migrate to Quick Visa Smart Debit/Credit (qVSDC). For devices that are currently certified for
EMV® contact chip, Visa does not require a formal EMV L3 terminal certification with the Acquirer/Processor
when adding qVSDC. Only self-testing is required. See the EMV Newsletter October/November 2018 for
required testing steps for your particular starting point.

Note: CDET is not merchant vertical specific. It can be used to test solutions with pre-determined amounts.
Strongly recommend all new readers should support Quick Visa Smart Debit/Credit (qVSDC) path only. For a
streamlined contactless implementation, refer to Quick Chip Specification v2.0, which adds qVSDC alignment
with Quick Chip.

EMV® is a registered trademark in the U.S. and other countries and an unregistered trademark elsewhere. The EMV trademark is owned by EMVCo, LLC.

Terminal Applicability

Applies for U.S. POS and ATM devices following Visa minimum U.S. online only terminal configuration. Any
EMVCo approved Terminal Type value can be used as an U.S. online only configuration via a zero floor limit and
appropriate TAC online settings. This includes values 12, 22, 15 or 25.

ADVT Required Actions / Expected Results

Each of the following use cases has been associated with the global ADVT and each are applicable when
performing Visa contact chip online only configured terminal testing prior to a U.S. deployment.

The terminal must perform a complete VSDC transaction without error, resulting in an online approval. A
complete transaction is defined as the performance of all selected VSDC functions from Application Selection
through to Completion. Error messages (such as Not Accepted or Card Error) are not acceptable and indicate
failure of the test.

Note: An online approval is based on one of the following implementation options.

• Basic Chip Implementations – an online approval is based on an Authorization Response Code (F39)
value of 00, 10, or 11; and a TC response to the GENERATE AC 2 command.

• Quick Chip Implementations – an online approval is based on an Authorization Response Code (F39)
value of 00, 10, or 11.

These test cases are not merchant vertical specific. For example, if testing Automated Fuel Dispensers (AFDs),
complete the test using the status check transaction or the pre-authorization based on the implementation
approach.

Include Terminal Capability Values (Tag '9F33') and the Terminal Action Code (TAC) values for U.S. Debit test
submissions into CCRT in the comments section of the applicable debit test case. This testing should be

conducted in VCMS with online authorization messages being sent to VisaNet Stand-In Processing, or by
connecting to an approved host simulator.

If the terminal is configured for online only configuration and Quick Chip, this version of ADVT, which includes
U.S. Debit test cases, can be performed instead of full ADVT for each unique terminal configuration. If also
supporting contactless, perform full CDET testing using the U.S version of CDET, which includes U.S. Debit test
cases.

For terminals with two or more kernel configurations, perform testing on the highest functionality kernel and
regression test only with the other configurations. No reporting requirements for regression testing.

Receipt Requirements

The applicable AID must be printed on the receipt and it is strongly recommended that the Application Label
and Application Preferred Name be printed as well.

Note: It is a Visa Best Practice to print the application name (either Application Preferred Name or Application
Label depending on support for the Issuer Code Table Index) on the receipt. Refer to the Transaction
Acceptance Device Guide for details.

Visa does not review receipts during test results validation. However, during testing ensure that receipts meet
each test case requirement. For more details, refer to each specific test case.

Optional U.S. Fleet test cases are available for petroleum merchants to test support of Fleet when migrating to
EMV.

The associated ADVT/CDET test cards and U.S. debit test cards should be used for these test cases. They can be
obtained through Visa’s third party fulfillment service. Visa-confirmed third party vendors may also be able to
support testing. For a list of Visa U.S. Confirmed Third-party Chip Acceptance Tool Suppliers, see U.S. Supporting
Documentation at https://technologypartner.visa.com. For a list of global products, refer to Visa-confirmed tool

Objective

U.S. Specific Test Cases including U.S. Common Debit AID

Objective

To ensure proper chip acceptance at all U.S. POS and ATM environments of specific cards (e.g. with the Visa U.S.
Common Debit AID).

Business Justification

Visa U.S. Debit Cards as defined in the Visa Core Rules for debit and prepaid products are covered by the
unaffiliated network and routing requirements of the Dodd-Frank Act and Federal Reserve Board Regulation II.
This common approach is designed to allow maximum flexibility and limit disruption at the POS by mimicking
the current magnetic stripe environment, which permits routing decisions to be made via BIN tables and
acquirer host systems. It will allow debit transactions to be sent to the merchant or acquirer’s network of choice
for both POS and ATM (provided the unaffiliated network has licensed the Visa U.S. Common Debit AID
Solution). If the Visa U.S. Common Debit AID is selected with a CVM of signature or no CVM, it can be routed
over Network 2 for a VisaNet transaction in addition to any other debit networks that support those CVMs. To
preserve traditional routing choices, Network 2 (Visa), Network 3 (Interlink), and Network 4 (Plus) will all accept
PIN transactions initiated with the Visa U.S. Common Debit AID. On multi-application cards where the Visa U.S.
Common Debit AID coexists with any Visa-owned AID other than the Visa Debit AID (such as the Visa Credit
AID), i.e. a card supporting applications representing two or more distinct sources of funding, the AID carrying
the highest Application Priority Indicator (indicating the desired funding source) can be selected to initiate the
transaction, or the merchant can implement custom logic to ask the cardholder which account they wish to use
and select the appropriate AID that corresponds to the cardholder’s account preference. The use of AID
selection screens or labels to effectuate cardholder funding choice is optional, even for multi-funding cards.
Merchants that wish to maintain routing flexibility for debit transactions will need to deploy specific logic in their
terminals to access the Visa U.S. Common Debit AID as described in the Visa Smart Debit/Credit Contact and
Contactless U.S. Acquirer Implementation Guide Appendices E.1 and E.2. While these test cases may be used to
evaluate alternate routing functionality, testing routing options for alternate networks is outside the scope of
this document. Merchants that wish to maintain routing flexibility for debit transactions must contact their
acquirer or network for specific testing requirements for alternate networks.

Notes:

1. When selecting amongst the Visa Global AID (i.e. Visa Debit AID) and the Visa U.S. Common Debit AID, this is achieved by:
a. Relying initially on a Debit / Credit button, where:

• Selection of "debit" includes options to support cash back, Visa U.S. Common Debit AID, etc. – In this
scenario test case 1A.2, 1A.4 & 1A.5 are applicable.
• Selection of "credit" implies a cardholder choice to use signature or no CVM and may be accomplished
by:
i. Selection of the Visa AID; in this case test 1A.1 is applicable
or
ii. Selection of the Visa U.S. Common Debit AID and capture of signature (or no CVM) through
PIN Entry Bypass or use of selectable kernel; in this case test case 1A.5 is applicable
or

3 See subsequent notes for additional guidance

U.S. Quick Chip and Minimum Terminal Configuration ADVT/CDET Use Cases

b. Support for EMV Cardholder Selection where the card's Application Labels are presented to the consumer:

• Visa Debit
• US Debit

In this scenario, selection of "Visa Debit" will make test case 1A.1 applicable. Additionally, for those
implementation supporting Online PIN: selection of “US Debit” will make test cases 1A.2 & 1A.4 applicable. The
use of EMV Cardholder Selection is optional. Merchants that wish to maintain routing flexibility for debit
transactions will need to deploy specific logic in their readers/terminals to ensure the Visa U.S. Common Debit
AID is used for debit functionality.

2. When the Visa U.S. Common Debit application has been automatically selected by the POS application (i.e. PIN Steering
Merchant) and the cardholder chooses to exit from debit PIN Entry prompts the following must be considered:

a. Automatically restart the EMV transaction and select the global AID (i.e. Visa Debit AID)

or

b. Apply EMV PIN Entry Bypass and format the authorization as Authorization-Only (Dual Message - 0100 with
subsequent clearing record - TC05), or if retaining a Single Message Full Financial (0200) format, test all
processing touch-points end to end.

In summary, for purposes of these tests when a Visa debit authorization does not include a PIN Block it is important to
ensure an Authorization-Only (Dual Message 0100 with subsequent clearing - TC05) format to avoid:
• Misrouting to a Single Message network that requires PIN
• Issuer / Issuer Processor rejects of a Single Message Full Financial (0200) message when the PIN Block is absent

3. All test cases are conditional and will be applicable based on the implementation approach as defined above. For example,
test case 1A.1 is applicable according to Note 1, above.

4. CDET test cases using the Visa U.S. Common Debit AID will be applicable based on the implementation approach as
defined above.

Ancillary U.S. Fleet Test Cases

These four Fleet test cases are available for testing and are optional for petroleum merchants. The test results
submission into CCRT is not required for these test cases.

The Visa U.S. Fleet test cards enable fleet managers to:

• Combine purchasing functions on a single card for their fleet vehicles and drivers, and
• Obtain enhanced purchasing data to better manage their fleet expenses.

At participating fuel and maintenance merchants, these cards are processed as a Visa Fleet card; at non-fuel
locations, it is processed as a Visa Purchasing card. Direct and indirect vehicle-related expenses may be tracked,
including fuel, maintenance, and other operational expenses. Fleet managers determine how the Visa Fleet card
is configured; it may be tied to drivers or vehicles, and its use may be limited to fuel or fuel and maintenance.

The Visa U.S. Fleet test cards can be obtained through a Visa-confirmed third party vendor. For a list of Visa U.S.
Confirmed Third-party Chip Acceptance Tool Suppliers, see U.S. Supporting Documentation at
https://technologypartner.visa.com.

Data Capture:
Visa Fleet transactions may qualify for three data capture levels. Enhanced data capture and reporting occurs at
levels 2 and 3.

Level 1 Provides standard Visa draft transaction data provided by Visa merchants. No enhanced data is captured
at this level. Merchants are required to pass this data.
Level 2 Supports enhanced data capture at the point of sale. Level 2 data capture includes a six-digit numeric
vehicle, driver, or generic ID; type of purchase; fuel type; unit of measure; quantity; gross fuel price; odometer
reading, and tax information. Merchants in the U.S. are required to pass this data.
Level 3 Allowing a merchant to pass a detailed accounting of fuel and non-fuel goods and services purchased to
buyers. Level 3 enhanced data provides summary information about Fleet card transactions and detailed
information about each line item.

Please refer to the Visa Fleet Card Implementation Guide for more details.

Setup for Testing:

As Visa Fleet processing at the terminal is based on BIN Table Look-up the following BIN must be loaded to the
Fleet BIN table: 448558. These cases are dependent on the Fleet test profile and it uses the standard Visa Credit
profile with changes to Fleet service indicators in the Track 2 equivalent data (Tag ’57’) corresponding to the
applicable test case. Merchants should continue to maintain BIN tables to identify Fleet cards to indicate the use
of the service indicators/prompts. When migrating to EMV, the same indicators and service prompts as current
magnetic-stripe should be supported. This approach will minimize changes and enable acquirers and merchants
to support both chip and magnetic-stripe cards during the chip migration.
