General Instruction:
(i) All the questions are compulsory.
(ii) The question paper consists of 40 questions divided into 4 sections A, B, C, and D.
(iii) Section A comprises of 20 questions of 1 mark each. Section B comprises of 6 questions of 2
marks each. Section C comprises of 8 questions of 3 marks each. Section D comprises of 6
questions of 4 marks each.
(iv) There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in two questions of 1

28. Find the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial 3x2 – x – 4, and verify the relationship between the
zeroes and the coefficients.

29. Draw the graphs of the equations 5x – y = 5 and 3x – y = 3. Determine the co-ordinates of the
vertices of the triangle formed by these lines and the y axis.

30. Express the ratios cos A, tan A and sec A in terms of sin A.

Questions 35 to 40 carry 4 marks each.

35. As observed from the top of a 75 m high lighthouse from the sea-level, the angles of depression
of two ships are 30° and 45°. If one ship is exactly behind the other on the same side of the
lighthouse, find the distance between the two ships.

36. The difference of squares of two numbers is 180. The square of the smaller number is 8 times
the larger number. Find the two numbers.

37. Find the sum of first 51 terms of an AP whose second and third terms are 14 and 18
respectively.

If the sum of the first n terms of an AP is 4n – n2, what is the first term (that is S1)? What is the
sum of first two terms? What is the second term? Similarly, find the 3rd, the 10th and the nth
terms.

38. Prove that "The ratio of the areas of two similar triangles is equal to the square of the ratio of
their corresponding sides."

State and prove Pythagoras theorem.

39. A tent is in the shape of a cylinder surmounted by a conical top. If the height and diameter of
the cylindrical part are 2.1 m and 4 m respectively, and the slant height of the top is 2.8 m, find
the area of the canvas used for making the tent. Also, find the cost of the canvas of the tent at
the rate of Rs 500 per m2. (Note that the base of the tent will not be covered with canvas.)

Rachel, an engineering student, was asked to make a model shaped like a cylinder with two
cones attached at its two ends by using a thin aluminium sheet. The diameter of the model is 3
cm and its length is 12 cm. If each cone has a height of 2 cm, find the volume of air contained in
the model that Rachel made. (Assume the outer and inner dimensions of the model to be nearly
the same.)

40. From the following data, draw the more than cumulative frequency curve and determine the
median from the graph.
