UNIT 2

Electronic Spreadsheet (Advanced) using LibreOffice Calc

Chapter- 4

Analyse Data using Scenarios and Goal Seek

1. Define the terms:

(a) Consolidate function

Consolidate is a function used to combine information from multiple sheets of

the spreadsheet into one place to summarize the information.

(b) What-if analysis

What-if analysis tool uses is a planning tool for what-if questions. In this, the
output is not shown in the same cells, whereas it uses a drop-down list to display the
output depending upon the input.

(c) Goal seek

Goalseek in LibreOffice calc is a feature that helps to find the right input value
for a formula to achieve the desired result. In other words we can say that it helps in
finding about the input for the specific output.

2. Give two advantages of Data analysis tools.

Two advantages of data analysis tools are :

1. Data analysis is very useful in the beginning of any project to optimise the

output.

2. Data a analysis is used to predict the output while changing the inputs
which

reflects the output and thus one can choose the best plan of action based

on it.

3. Name two tools for data anlysis.

Goal Seek and Scenarios.

4. What are the criteria for consolidating data.

Criteria for consolidating data are:

1 Data types across all the sheets to be consolidated should be same.

2. Labels should matcj from all the sheets which are used for consolidating.

3. Designate the first column as the primary column on the basis of which the data is

to be consolidated.

5. Which tool is used to create an outline for the selected data?

Group and Outline in Calc is used to create an outline of the selected data.

6. What do you mean by scenarios? Write steps to creare Scenario.

A scenario is essentially a saved set of cell values for your calculations. This
tool is used to predict the output while changing the inputs which reflects the output
and thus one can choose the best plan of action based on it.

To create scenario:

1. Select the cells which contains values in the sheet that will change between

scenarios.

2. Choose Tools>Scenarios will open scenario dialog window.

3. Enter a name for the new scenario.

4. Click on OK button to close the dialog window.
