GAS TURBINE INSPECTION REPORT
LOCATION: SAIH RAWL POWER STATION UNIT NO.: G9331
ELECTRICAL NARRATIVE REPORT
ISOLATIONS
Unit was shut down for HGPI. Isolations were done on 12 November 2015.
Isolations and Electrical switching program were done prior to commence the
mechanical, electrical and instruments activities.
GENERATOR AIR INLET FILTERS
Generator & Turbine air inlet filter were replaced by RSC along with the
Turbine air inlet filters. Generator is having 64 cylindrical filters. Checked all
clean air duct and inspected venturi tubes condition.
During inspection of Generator end windings it was seen some of the

brittle/damaged venture tubes from the inlets filters scattered in Generator
compartment. From the previous maintenance inspection, it was
recommended to provide screen guard on the Generator air passage duct to
avoid the ingress of damaged venture tubes.

GENERATOR AND ROTOR
Generator end windings were inspected and found to be in clean and dry
condition. There were signs of broken venturi tubes inside the Generator
winding compartment.
The Generator windings were found dry clean. Space heaters elements were
found ok and resistances were measured.
Rotor shaft earthing brush assembly was inspected and cleaned. The two
earthing carbon brushes were checked and found normal length. Contact

earth continuity resistance checked was done and value measured was 0.30
ohms.

The Generator was cleaned, removed pieces of damaged venture tubes.
EXCITER AND PMG
Exciter covers were removed to have inspection access to rotating diodes

and exciter windings. Checks on winding and insulation resistances were
carried out in exciter and PMG.

Rotor ground detection system transmitter was checked and found to be ok.

GENERATOR NEUTRAL CUBICLE
The cubicle was inspected and cleaned. Neutral grounding equipment was
inspected and checked resistances. Bus bar bolted connections were
tightened. Panel paintwork was in good condition. Space heaters were
checked and in good operational condition.
LINE SIDE CUBICLE
The line side cubicle was checked and inspected for cleanliness and tightness
of bus bar joints connection. Secondary wirings were checked through the
terminal box. Voltage transformer connection and fuses were checked and
insulation resistance was measured. Space heaters were checked and found
in good operational condition. 11 KV bus bar were clean and applied
insulating varnish to bus bar joints and bolts.
UNIT 415 V MCC AND POWER CENTER
All motors starter modules were taken out from cubicle one at a time and
inspected, cleaned, checked the integrity of controls and terminations.
Winding and insulation resistances of motors were measured and recorded.
Simulation test was done on all motor controllers to prove the performance
on normal operation. Fix & moving contacts were cleaned and contact
resistance was satisfactory tested.
The outstanding defect of 415 Volts MCC power supply changeover was
rectified and tested. Electrical control circuit were checked and found in good
connections. The mechanical tripping device was found jammed and did not
return to original position after the last opening of the circuit breaker.
It was lubricated and the circuit breaker incomer no.1 was exercise manually
and electrically close and open for several times to ensure the correct
operation during the built up of Generator voltage. The incomer circuit
breaker no. 2 was also serviced and performed inspection and functional
change over test.
As observed the changeover occurred normally at FSNL.
UNIT AUXILIARY TRANSFORMER
The unit auxiliary transformer H.V. and L.V. covers were removed and cable
box cleaned. Checked the tightness of cable terminal connections. Paintwork
is in satisfactory condition. Resistances on both winding and insulation were
measured and recorded. H.V. cable IR was included in 11KV cable network
during the P.I. test.

AUXILIARY AC and DC MOTORS
All essential auxiliary motors were pulled out, dismantled and replaced both
outboard and inboard bearings. 88TK motors 1 & 2, 88PF motors 1 & 2, 88QV
and 88PF no. 3.
BATTERY AND BATTERY CHARGERS
Battery and battery chargers maintenance was done by Battery maintenance

crew on 5 November 2015. Battery Data sheet attached.
EX2000 EXCITATION PANEL
EX2001 Excitation panel was inspected for integrity and vacuum cleaned.
EX2001E control panel was inspected and cleaned.
PLANT EARTHING SYSTEM
All earthing system terminals were checked and cleaned. Measured the
integrity of earth connections to main earth system and continuity checks
were carried out. Contact resistance value obtained was 0.3 ohm.
Unit was put back in service on 25 November 2015 after the trim balancing
activities.
