Module 6.3: Specific Subject Tool – Science (OLABS)

Module: 6.3.1 Time: 30 minutes

4. 3.1: CASE STUDY:

Today, in class 9, Garima understood the theoretical aspect related to plant and animal tissues,
but she was very restless due to lack of adequate equipment in the laboratory for the experimental
side.

When the subject teacher explained the experiment to the children in the class through this virtual
app, the atmosphere of the class became blissful.

6.3.2: What is OLabs?

The online (virtual) laboratories known as OLabs replicate actual laboratory experiments. Through
the use of cutting-edge technology, these virtual labs imitate the real world digitally, giving
students the opportunity to conduct experiments in a secure setting. Through the use of the
Internet, they give students a more effective and economical means of more efficiently and
economically exploring scientific topics and doing experiments without requiring actual laboratory
equipment. This closes the digital gap and overcomes regional barriers to help them compete with
children in schools with superior resources. The time limits experienced when only having short-
term access to the physical lab are eliminated by the experiments' accessibility from anywhere at
any time.

Modern simulation technology is used in the labs to replicate real-world lab conditions. Research
staff conduct in-depth analysis and investigation to have a deeper comprehension of the
experimental protocols. In order to absorb knowledge about the methods and lab equipment, real-
world laboratory events are captured through a live demonstration of the experiment. The
development and visualization of the graphical symbols are based on real-world scenarios and
are contrasted with the corresponding physical equipment.

Objectives:

After this module learners will be able to-

● Learners will enhance their practical laboratory skills by conducting virtual experiments
● Learners will develop proficiency in using digital tools and technology for performing
experiments.

6.3.3: How does the OLabs work?

OLabs combine technology resources, automation, along with necessary concepts. They are
richly featured platforms and are meant to provide a compelling and personalized experience for
learners, one that goes beyond just looking at content or interacting with simulations. They enable
hands-on training whenever and wherever it’s needed. OLabs work by using advanced software
and hardware to simulate real-world laboratory experiments. The software is designed to
accurately replicate the conditions of a physical experiment, including factors such as
temperature, pressure, and chemical reactions. this seen like real work.

Every Students can access OLabs through any web browser, where they can perform
experiments and record their results. Students can manipulate variables, take measurements and
observe the outcomes of their experiments in real-time. This allows them to learn and explore
scientific concepts in a safe and controlled environment, without the risk of injury or damage to
laboratory equipments.

6.3.4: Benefits of OLabs

OLabs offer a number of advantages over traditional laboratory experiments. Here are some of
the key benefits:

Safety: Since this app are conducted virtually, there is no risk of injury or damage to laboratory
equipment. This makes them a safer alternative to physical laboratory experiments, especially for
younger students.
Cost-effective: Traditional laboratory experiments can be expensive, requiring specialized
equipment and materials. OLabs, on the other hand, can be accessed for a fraction of the cost,
making them a more cost-effective option for schools and educators.
Accessibility: OLabs can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection, making them
more accessible to students who may not have access to a physical laboratory or specialized
equipment.

Flexibility: With OLabs, students can conduct experiments at their own pace and on their own
schedule, providing greater flexibility in the learning process.
Enhanced Learning: OLabs offer interactive simulations and visual representations of scientific
concepts, making them a more engaging and effective learning tool for students.
Environmental Impact: OLabs have a lower environmental impact than traditional laboratory
experiments, as they do not require as many physical resources or generate as much waste.

6.3.5: Using OLabs in the Classroom

To effectively use O-Labs in the classroom, educators should start by introducing their students
to the platform and providing them with a clear understanding of how it works. It is important to
ensure that students have access to the necessary technology and equipment to use the platform
effectively.

Once students have been introduced to the platform, educators are providing them with clear
objectives and guidelines for each experiment or activity. This will help students stay focused and
engaged throughout the process. Educators are also encouraging students to work collaboratively
in groups to conduct experiments and share their findings. This is promoting teamwork and help
students develop important communication and problem-solving skills.

Finally, educators are use O-Labs as a supplement to traditional laboratory experiences. While
online laboratories can provide valuable opportunities for students to explore scientific concepts
in a safe and controlled environment, they should not replace hands-on experiences in a physical
laboratory.

from different heights. Through this, social science, geography and other humanities subjects
can be made interesting and the teaching-learning process can be made interesting and
effective.

With the help of this, one can study maps, know about latitude and longitude lines and find the
height of that place from sea level. Through this, you can understand the different features of
landforms, mountains, plateaus, plains, valleys, etc. by looking at them in three dimensional
form and study the drainage systems of India.

Aims:-

1. Bhuvan will study the three-dimensional shapes of the earth through application.

2. Bhuvan finds latitude and longitude using application.

3. Bhuvan finds the height of a place by using application.

4. Find the distance between two places.
