Front fuse and relay module

Due to the steady increase in the number of electrical functions in the areas of comfort, communication and safety in vehicles, the voltage
supply is becoming ever more significant.

The vehicle has multiple internal power distribution boxes because of the special operating conditions under which the different system
functions are applied. Sufficient voltage supply is thereby ensured in all operating ranges.

There are fuses in the front power distribution box. Alongside the fuses, a number of relays are also plugged into or soldered onto the
printed circuit board. If one of the soldered relays is faulty, the complete front power distribution box must be replaced.

Depending on the series and vehicle equipment, various relays are mounted on the printed circuit boards in the front power distribution
box. The fuse assignment also depends on the series and vehicle equipment.

The front power distribution box has an internal plug connection for the junction box electronics (JBE). When assembled, the power
distribution box and junction box electronics become a unit, which is called a junction box.

Functional description
The fuses are directly connected to the front power distribution box. The fuses are thereby plugged in on the printed circuit board with a
connection of the plug connection. The other connection of the plug connection is directly connected with the plug connectors of the
wiring harness. The advantages of this design are:

Better utilization of existing space

Better heat dissipation

The front power distribution box contains fuses and relays. Particularly important for the voltage supply are the following relays:

Relay, terminal 30B

Relay, terminal 15N

Bi-stable relay terminal 30F

The following graphic shows the front power distribution box with example F01.

3 Relay, terminal 30B
(inserted)

Terminal 15N, terminal 30B and terminal 30F are switched terminals that provide the voltage supply for control units and components in
the vehicle electrical system. The switched terminals enable optimisation of the energy consumption in normal operation, in the stationary
mode (standby current) or in the event of faults.

Terminal 15N

Terminal 15N is used for the voltage supply of control units and components that are required for "Ignition ON". Terminal 15N is
activated together with the logical terminal 15 by activating the start/stop button. Terminal 15N is switched off with a specified after-
running period after switching off the logical terminal 15.

The Car Access System (CAS) activates the relay terminal 15N.

Terminal 30B

Terminal 30B provides the voltage supply for control units and components that in normal operation are required when the driver is
present. For example, terminal 30B will be activated with a status change for a door contact or unlocking, locking or securing the
vehicle.

Terminal 30B is switched off with a specified after-running period.

The Car Access System (CAS) activates the relay terminal 30B.

Terminal 30F

Terminal 30F provides the voltage supply for control units and components that in the normal operation require the terminal 30 but
can be switched off in the event of faults.

The junction box electronics (JBE) activate the bi-stable relay terminal 30F.

Structure and inner electrical connection

The battery power distribution box supplies power to the front power distribution box via battery cable with terminal 30.

Depending on the series and vehicle equipment, various relays are mounted on the printed circuit boards in the front power distribution
box.

The fuse assignment (not shown) depends on the series and vehicle equipment.

The following graphic shows the electrical connection in the front power distribution box with example F01.
