UNIT- I TRANSMISSION LINE THEORY

PART-A

1. Define transmission line.

2. State the properties of infinite line.
3. A transmission line has Z0=745∠-120 Ω and is terminated in ZR=100 Ω. Calculate
the reflection factor.
4. Find the input impedance of a transmission line of length λ /8, terminated with the
load impedance of 40+ j20Ω. Assume Zo = 50Ω .
5. What is the need for inductance loading of telephone cables?

PART-B

6. Define transmission line parameters. Derive the transmission line equations from
the equivalent circuit representation.
7. A communication line has L=3.67 mH/km, G=0.08X10-6 mhos/km, C=0.0083 µF/km
and R=10.4 ohms/km. Determine the characteristic impedance, propagation
constant, velocity of propagation, sending and receiving end current forgiven
frequency f=1000Hz,sending end voltage is 1 volt and transmission line length is
100 kilometers.
8. i)Explain in detail about the wave-form distortion and also derive the condition for
distortion and also derive the condition for distortion less line.
ii)Derive the expressions for the input impedance of open and short circuited lines.
9. Derive the input impedance Z0 from the transmission line equation and also find
voltage reflection ratio at the load.
10. i) Discuss in detail about lumped loading and derive the Campell’s equation.
ii). Explain in detail about the reflection on a line not terminated by its
characteristics impedance Z0.
