Assignment 1 (Midterm) - Marks : 20

1. A digital communication link carries binary-coded words representing samples of an input signal,
𝒙𝒂(𝒕)=5𝐜𝐨𝐬8𝟎𝟎𝝅𝒕+3𝐜𝐨𝐬24𝟎𝟎𝝅𝒕
The link is operated at 20,000 bits/sec and each input sample is quantized into 2048 different voltage
levels.
(i) Find out sampling frequency, sample interval, Nyquist rate and folding frequency?
(ii) Determine the reconstructed analog signal ya(t) from the simplified discrete form of x(n).
(iii) Find out dynamic range, resolution Δ and SQNR

2. A discrete time signal x(n) is defined as follows:

0, 𝑛<0
𝑥(𝑛) = { 3𝑛
𝑒 , 0≤𝑛≤7
i) Sketch the signal 𝑥(𝑛), x(4-n) 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑥(3𝑛+3)
ii) Find the power and energy of the signal x(n).
iii) Express the signal x(n) with respect to impulse signal sequence.

3. Determine the response of an LTI system using graphical method of convolution sum; where
the excitation, x(n) and the impulse response, h(n) of system are given below.

4. Compute the signal y(n) where the system is designed as follows:

x(n) h1(n) h2(n) y(n)

x(n) = {1, -2, 2}, h1(n) = (3)nu(n) and h2(n)= 2δ(n)+ δ(n+2).

5. Determine the cross-correlation sequences for the following pair of signals, x(n) = {5, 7, 5} and
h(n) = 2u(n-2) -3𝛿(n+3) – 2u(n-5) using
