1 Single Unit Functions
1.1 Fans Control
1.1.1 Start – Stop
Unit on means the fan output is activated. The unit can be switched on/off from 4 sources:
1. Remote Off (status indication: Remote Off): digital input closed (24V) = ON, open = OFF.
2. Display Off button (status indication: Display Off). NOTE: when in system view and the on-off button pressed, the
display will jump to a confirmation screen asking for confirmation to shut down the whole system (= all connected
units) and will add an event into the event log: “System Off Requested”. Pressing on-off again will shut down the
system (event: “System off confirmed”); ESC if no shutdown is required (auto-timeout of the confirmation screen: 10
seconds if no button is pressed). When in a unit view, only that unit will be affected from the on-off button, w/o
confirmation requested.
3. Local Off (status indication: Local Off): Unit is switched off by means of the switch connected to the 3-digits display or
to the HCS12 small Display.
4. Monitoring Off (status indication: Monitoring Off). In this case an override to the monitoring is possible: pressing the
on-off button of the display will change the state to “Unit Off”, and another press will start the unit in “Unit On”.
Note: all 4 “Off” possibilities are connected like in series: only if ALL are in on, the unit will start, if one is off, the unit will stop

1.1.2 Auto restart


Two parameters are responsible for the auto-restart after power cycle:
1. Auto Restart Enabled (defaults to “Yes”): if set to “No” the unit will NOT restart after a power cycle.
2. Single Unit Auto Restart: is the selectable time delay between finishing the boot process and starting the fan. Each
unit adds (internally) its U2U address (no matter if Teamwork is selected or not) as a value in seconds to this time in
order to avoid common starting of multiple units. Each unit will take over the same status as it had before: ON if it
was ON before the power cycle, OFF if it was OFF.
Anytime when there is a loss of power and the power comes back, a Loss of Power Event will be activated. This alarm
resets automatically (if acknowledged) after 30 minutes. Note: Loss of power alarm will be activated only on units
which had the fan on before power off. This Alarm can be set to different event types (Message, Alarm or Warning)
or can be disabled. This event defaults to “disabled” for PCW units.
Once the fan is started, it starts with the selected standard speed [VSD Setpoint STD].
After the start timer has elapsed the control starts to compare real and set temperature, and starts to modulate the
fanspeed according the selected control mode.
a. Start Timer for Return Control: 3 seconds
b. Start Timer for Supply Control: 5 minutes

1.1.3 Fan Failure
1.1.3.1 Main Fan Overload
1. Main Fan Overload is not used in PCW configurations.

1.1.3.2 Loss of Airflow


1. Functions, Settings
a. The Loss of Airflow input is enabled only if the main fan (the unit) is on.
b. “Loss of Airflow” defaults to “Shut Down”, and is changeable to “Disable”.
c. A “Loss of Airflow” is detected by means of a digital input on all Large Board configurations.
d. A “Loss of Airflow” is detected by means of an analog input on Medium Board configurations.
e. The value of the Airflow Sensor (OK = above threshold, ACT = below threshold) drives the same symbol in
Service Menu which is driven by the digital input in other configurations, like it would be a switch.
f. Set to “Disable”: If the input changes to NOK (see Timing below) the event 007 “Loss of Airflow” is generated,
followed by the event 079 (Unit Disabled).
g. Unit Disabled: If the event is active, the unit will continue to have the fan in operation; but heaters, the
humidifier and dehumidification will be switched off. Only Chilled Water Cooling or Freecooling is allowed to
operate.
h. Set to “Shut Down”: If the input changes to NOK (see Timing below) the event 007 “Loss of Airflow” is
generated, followed by the event 080 “Unit Shut Down” and the unit shuts down. Unit Shut Down closes FC /
CW valve(s) (valve reset)
i. Loss of Airflow resets automatically (after acknowledge), as soon as the alarm condition is not true anymore.
j. Manual Reset on an active Loss of Airflow resets the event and restarts the unit, timers restart at 0.
2. Timing
a. After start of the fan, a delay equal to the time indicated by _S237 “Loss of Airflow Delay” (PCW-120 seconds)
will be applied to allow the unit to establish airflow via the air sail switch, and to avoid annunciation of the
“Loss of Airflow” alarm, and the associated “Alarm Off” state. The “Loss of Airflow” alarm will be announced
immediately after “Loss of Airflow Delay” is elapsed w/o having the input in OK state. If - within the Loss of
Airflow Delay - the inputs are OK continuously for 10 seconds, the control starts. This can happen after 10 sec
when the inputs are OK from beginning.

1.1.3.3 Temperature Control - Single Source Cooling


1.1.4 Basic
1. The _S104 “Temperature Proportional Band” is divided in two parts: equal size for cooling and heating.
2. In the center there is the _U102 / _S102 “Temperature Setpoint”.
3. A _S108 “Temperature Deadband” can be selected, which is divided 50:50 for both, cooling and heating and which
shifts the cooling / heating steps apart.

4. The control calculates the output from -100% to +100%. All valves and cooling / heating stages are driven with this
output.
5. There is a parameter _S107 “Autoset Enable”, which automatically sets the _S104 “Temperature Proportional Band”
and _S115 “Humidity Proportional Band”, _S105 “Temperature Integration Time” and _S116 “Humidity Integration”
Time according the type of the unit (Chilled Water); in accordance to the _S802 “Number of Connected Units”, the
number of available units, the type of _S803 “Teamwork Mode”, the _S502 “Number of Standby Units” and the type
of _S508 “Cascade Units” selection.
1.1.5 Chilled Water Valves – Freecooling Valves
The valves can be driven:
1. By 2 digital outputs (= 3 Point Actuator): open and close
a. The _S409 “3P Actuator Runtime” defines the time needed to move from closed to open position.
i. Controlling the valve by time: (_S408 “Valve Control” set to “Time”)
1. The valve position is calculated by measuring the duration of the “open” and “close”
commands to the valve.
2. The “open” or “close” command is given as long as necessary to reach the requested valve
position.
ii. Controlling the valve by position feedback signal: (_S408 “Valve Control” set to “Feedback”)
1. Note: Freecooling valves CANNOT be driven via feedback - _S408 “Valve Control” will
automatically fall back to “Time” in FC units.
2. The valve position is calculated from the position feedback given by the valve into the
analog input.
3. The “open” or “close” command is given as long as necessary to get the requested valve
position feedback value.
4. The event 200 CONTROL VALVE FAILURE will be announced when the valve position has a
continuous error of more than 5% for the time of 2x _S409 “3P Actuator Runtime”.
b. The _S410 “3P Actuator Direction” defines if the valve works in direct or reverse mode (the outputs are
exchanged when the parameter is changed from direct to reverse: open will be close, and close will be open).
2. By an analog output (_A163-_A166 Analog Output 1-4 set to “CW 0-10V or CW 2-10V”).
a. The analog output has the same value as the currently requested 3P Actuator Position, w/o the “overdrives”
and “3P reset”.
b. Analog driven valves can also have a valve position feedback signal.
3. Valve Control - Return Air Control (w/ or w/o Supply Air Limit) [_S124 “Supply Sensor” set to “Disabled” or “Limit”]
a. The valve is modulated in relation to the return air temperature deviation.
b. If supply limit control is enabled the deviation which drives the valve is always the smaller value of return air
deviation and supply air deviation.
c. When the valve is requested to move, it will not follow the request unless the request of change position is
equal to or greater than 5%. During traveling the control re-checks every ~0,5 seconds the requested position
and calculates the traveling time accordingly.
d. If the requested position is changing to 0% or 100%, the valve will be forced to overdrive by 30% of its runtime.
e. The overdrive will occur only once per hour.
f. A valve position between 1% and 4% will be interpreted as 5%. A valve position between 96% and 99% will be
interpreted as 95%.
g. Only if the requested position is 0 or 100 the valve will close (open), and possibly do a valve overdrive;
depending on the 1 hour waiting time between one overdrive to the next.
4. Valve Control - Supply Air Control [_S124 “Supply Sensor” set to “Control”]
a. Supply Air Control is possible ONLY with valves controlled by feedback: (_S408 “Valve Control” set to
“Feedback” or when a 0-10V or 2-10V valve is used (_A163-_A166 Analog Output 1-4 set to “CW 0-10V or CW 2-
10V”). The valve is modulated in relation to the supply air temperature deviation.
b. The valve will be driven by “open” or “close” commands (“Pulse”) of 2% of the valve travel time; followed by a
“Pause” time.
c. The “Pause” time is modulated in relation to the temperature deviation: between 60 seconds (temperature on
setpoint, deviation 0%) to 10 seconds (deviation 100%).
d. This is achieved by setting the speed filters (_S132 “Capacity Change” at 0% and at 100%) in relation to the
_S131 “Valve Pulse” parameter.
e. Worked example:
i. Settings 60 sec (=a) , 10 sec (=b) and 2% pulse (=c):
ii. Filter value at 0% = ((1/a)*c) = 0,03
iii. Filter value at 100% = ((1/b)*c) = 0,2
5. Valve Control - Feedback Calibration
a. The control has a selection to auto calibrate the control valve: _S180 “Start Valve Calibration”
b. This can only be selected when the unit is OFF.
c. When selected, the control will open the valve for 130% of _S409 “3P Actuator Runtime”. When completed, it
will note the 100% open valve position via the valve feedback sensor.
d. Then it will drive the valve closed for 130% of the valve travel time. When completed, it will note the 0% open
valve position via the valve feedback sensor.
e. The valve calibration is automatically performed when _S408 “Valve Control” changes to “Feedback”.
f. A linear 0 to 100% valve % open status will be calculated from these two points and used to control the actual
valve position via valve feedback sensor.
6. Valve Control – 3P Reset after Power Cycle; Valve Position Tracking over a Power Cycle
a. Valve Tracking can be disabled by setting _A611 “CW Valve Delay Time” or _A612 “CW Valve Power Off Time”
to “disable”.
b. Valves driven by an analog signal or valves having a feedback signal do not perform a 3P Reset.
c. Valves having a feedback signal do not use the valve tracking feature. _A611 will fall to disabled if valves with
feedback are set.
d. If there was a power cycle (power off/on) the unit compares the power off to power on time.
e. If the power outage was longer than what is set in _A612 “CW Valve Power Off Time” the valve will perform the
usual reset (close 110% of the _S409 “3P Actuator Runtime”) and then restart the control from 0.
f. If the power outage was shorter than what is set in _A612 “CW Valve Power Off Time”, the control will not
perform a valve reset, but will assume that the valve's position is still the same as it was before the power cycle
and continue the control from this point.
g. For the time set in _A611 “CW Valve Delay Time” the valve is not allowed to close, but is allowed to open in
case the call for cooling is asking for. After _A611 “CW Valve Delay Time” is elapsed the valve will continue
normal operation, i.e. close if CFC requires the valve to close.
7. Position of the valve inside the P-Band

1.1.6 Double Chilled Water Valves


1. In dual-circuit chilled water units both the valves can be driven as described in 1.1.5.
2. Chilled Water Valves – Freecoolong Valves;
a. 3 point
b. 0-10V
c. 2-10V
d. With or without feedback
i. When calibration is started, both valves execute the calibration at the same time.
ii. Both valves produce the same event when the feedback fails, the one having the failure changes to
time-controlled mode, the other one continues to operate in feedback mode.
e. Direct or Reverse mode
f. With or without valve tracking
3. Three standard methods for controlling the cooling capacity with two chilled water valves: parallel, alternate,
cascade by setting _S429 “CW Valve Control” (differently from “Single”):
a. Parallel (default mode)
i. This means both of valves controlled at the same time with the same logic. Customer will take care for
switching water flow on first, second or both of circuits.
ii. The front panel graph shows the position as used in single valve mode.
b. Alternate
i. It means that only one hydraulic circuit is running.
ii. Default: Circuit x (if 1 or 2 is selectable by _S430 “Main Valve”) is in operation.
iii. Change of priority is selectable via timer or via Customer input (see below).
iv. The front panel graph shows the position as used in single valve mode.
c. Cascade
i. It means that the first 70% of cooling semi proportional band will be covered from main valve (valve
x) and the other valve (valve y) remains closed by iCOM.
ii. In case of higher return air temperature then both of valves will work at the same time, and the
second one will modulate.
iii. If the temperature decreases lower than 50% of cooling semi band then only valve x remains to work
and valve y is closed from iCOM.
iv. The front panel graph shows the position inside the p-band, independent of operating with one or
both valves.
Double chilled water valve: cascade

4. Selecting the Main Valve (valid for Alternate or Cascade only)


a. _S430 “Main Valve” selects valve 1 or valve 2 to be the main (= the first) valve
5. Main Valve Rotation (valid for Alternate or Cascade only)
a. Besides the possibility to change the Main Valve by means of _S430 “Main Valve” there are 2 more possibilities:
i. Through a free contact (customer input) the customer will decide which circuit has to work:
1. “Swap Valve” [customer input] active: Circuit x closes, y opens.
2. “Swap Valve” [customer input] inactive: Circuit y closes, x opens.
ii. Through timer _S431 “Auto Valve Rotation”:
1. If enabled, the priority of the valves will change daily, selected in _S432 “Valve Rotation
Hour” (hour of the day).
iii. Both rotation reasons can operate in parallel: If the customer input changed from x-y to y-x the _S432
“Valve Rotation Hour” will change it back to x-y the next time the hour of rotation is reached, and vice
versa.
6. Dehum operation
a. The default is that _S433 “Dehum Operation” automatically changes to the same setting of _S429 when _S429
is changed; to have the same valve control type in Cooling and in Dehumidification.
b. _S433 “Dehum Operation” can afterwards be set to any value to set the valve’s mode to any other setting.
c. This means that if the unit is set to Parallel mode of control (for cooling) the customer can decide to switch to
i.e. Cascade mode upon a call for dehumidification. During the call for dehumidification the unit operates in
cascade mode - upon the end of the dehumidification cycle the unit would revert to Parallel mode for cooling.
1. Temperature Control – Heating
1.1.7 Heating proportional bands
1. The heating proportional band is divided into 3 equal parts which represent the steps programmed.
2. Possible combinations are:

Note 1: Hot Gas / Hot Water are not influenced from low limit 1 and 2 during dehumidification.
Note 2: Hot Gas output will be set only if the selected compressor is in operation.

Heating proportional band

1.1.8 Heaters in PCW- configurations


1. Large Board:
a. The electrical heaters can be driven as 1, 2 or 3 steps. If 3 is selected, Step 1 (33%) = output 1, step 2 (66%) =
output2 (output 1 is switched off), and step 3 (100%) = output 1 + output 2 together.
b. When also Hot Water or Hot Gas are selected, the electrical heaters will work:
i. in 3 steps when HG is selected but not active
ii. in 2 steps when HW is selected or when HG is selected and active.
2. Medium Board:
a. Electrical Heaters only (No HW or HG): (Heaters overheated must stop both outputs)
i. S404 Electric Stages = 1; S406 Total Heat Stages shows 1.
1. Step 1 = P2-4 On. When On the graph for electrical shows 100%.
ii. S404 Electric Stages = 2; S406 Total Heat Stages shows 2.
1. Step 1 = P2-4 On. When On the graph for electrical shows 50%.
2. Step 2 = P4-1 On. When On the graph for electrical shows 100%.
iii. S404 Electric Stages = 3; S406 Total Heat Stages shows 3.
1. Step 1 = P2-4 On. When On the graph for electrical shows 33%.
2. Step 2 = P4-1 On (and P2-4 Off). When On the graph for electrical shows 66%.
3. Step 3 = P2-4 On and P4-1 On. When both are On the graph for electrical shows 100%.
b. Combined heater systems (electrical + hot water or hot gas): (S404 Electric Stages can be set to -1, 0, 1 or 2
only. 3 cannot be set, falls back to 2) (Note: -1 shows up as "HW/HG+1R" in the display).
i. S404 Electric Stages = 1; HW or HG is Yes; S406 Total Heat Stages shows 2.
1. Step 1 = P2-4: HW/HG. On: HW/HG graph shows 100% (HG only when compressor is on).
2. Step 2 = P4-1: Electrical. On: Electrical graph shows 100%.
3. Heaters overheated must stop only output 2.
ii. S404 Electric Stages = 2; HW or HG is Yes; S406 Total Heat Stages shows 3.
1. Step 1 = P2-4. If activated, the graph for HG/HW shows 100% (on HG only if the compressor
is on during dehum); the graph for electrical shows 33%.
2. Step 2 = P4-1. If activated, the graph for electrical changes from 33% to 100%. HG graph
remains on what it was (0% or 100%).
3. Heaters overheated must stop both outputs.
iii. S404 Electric Stages = -1, HW or HG is Yes; S406 Total Heat Stages shows 1.
1. Step 1 = P2-4. If activated, the graph for HG/HW shows 100% (on HG only if the compressor
is on during dehum); the graph for electrical shows 100%.
2. Step 2 = P4-1. not used
3. Heaters overheated must stop output 1 only, since output 2 is not used at all.
c. C) HW or HG heating ONLY
i. S404 Electric Stages = 0; HW or HG is Yes; S406 Total Heat Stages shows 1.
1. Step 1 = P2-4- If activated, the graph for HG/HW shows 100% (on HG only if the compressor
is on during dehum).

1.1.9 Electric Heaters Rotation


1. If Electric Stages is “2”, the 1st step of heaters is the one with less working hours.
2. There is no rotation during heaters operation, only if both are off and a heater is requested, this rule takes place
Humidity Control
1. The Humidity Proportional Band is divided in two parts: equal size for humidification and dehumidification.
2. In the center there is the Humidity Setpoint.
3. A Humidity Deadband can be set around the setpoint, which shifts the humidification / dehumidification steps apart.
4. Hum and Dehum are DISABLED during Economizer operation (SA08 Economizer Mode = On)
5. Hum and Dehum can operate only when ECO is off.

1.1.10 Humidification
1. The Humidification Enabled parameter allows enabling / disabling the humidifier function.

1.1.10.1 Internal Humidifier Control


1. Internal humidifiers are driven by the control’s algorithm; it allows to operate with a fixed steamrate or with a
modulating steamrate.

External humidifier control

1.1.10.2 External Humidifier Control


1. External humidifiers are not driven through the control’s algorithm; only a start-stop command is given to the
external control board for the humidifier.

1. There are 2 types of infrared humidifiers: having 3 lamps (_A146 “Humidifier Model” = “IFS”) and 6 lamps (_A146
“Humidifier Model” = “IFL”). The operating mode of both is quite the same; some of the variables or timings differ
between 3 and 6 lamps humidifiers.

8. An autoflush system automatically controls the Fill Valve and Humidifier Lamps to maintain proper levels in the
infrared humidifier water pan during humidifier operation. When humidification is needed, the control calculates a
[flush_time] and a [re_fill_time]. The [flush_time] is equal to (Internal Variable (flush_constant)) multiplied by the
percent set in (S414 Infrared Flush Rate). The [re_fill_time] is equal to (A148 Fill Time) multiplied by the percent set
in (S414 Infrared Flush Rate). The control also checks to see if the [pre_fill_flag] is set. The [pre_fill_flag] gets set
when the humidifier has been OFF for the amount of time set in (A147 Humidity in Last xx Hours).
9. When there is a call for humidification and the [pre_fill_flag] is set, the Humidifier Lamps are held OFF until the valve
completes an initial fill of the humidifier pan. Therefore, the control will first turn ON the Fill Valve and start the
flush timer. Once the [flush_timer] reaches the value of the [re_fill_time], the control will turn ON the humidifier
Lamps. The control will continue filling the humidifier pan to flush the system until the [flush_timer] reaches the
value of the [flush_time]. Once this time has elapsed, the [pre_fill_flag] is cleared, the [flush_timer] is reset, and the
humidifier can be considered “flushed” and ready for normal operation.
10. When humidification is needed and the [pre_fill_flag] is not set, or the humidifier is ON and has just completed a
“flush” (see paragraph above), the Fill Valve and Humidifier Lamps are controlled in the following manner cyclic. If
the humidifier is OFF (i.e. not coming out of the auto flush sequence stated in the paragraph above), the control will
turn ON the Fill Valve and start the [cyclic_timer], one second later the control will turn ON the Humidifier Lamps. If
the humidifier is ON (i.e. just finished a flush sequence), the Fill Valve and Humidifier Lamps are left ON, and the
[cyclic_timer] is started. Once the [cyclic_timer] equals the calculated value [re_fill_time], the Fill Valve is turned
OFF. Once the [cyclic_timer] equals the (A149 Humidifier On Time) value, the Fill Valve is tuned ON, the
[cyclic_timer] is reset to 0, and restarted. The control continues use the [cyclic_timer] to control the Fill Valve as
described above until the control determines that humidification is not needed any more. When that happens, the
Humidifier Lamps are turned OFF, the Fill Valve is turned OFF if it is ON, the [cyclic_timer] is reset, and the humidifier
OFF timer is started.
11. If the [humidifier_off_timer] reaches the value set in (A147 Humidity in Last xx Hours), before the next call for
humidification, or if power is lost to the control, the [pre_fill_flag] is set.

1.1.11 Dehumidification
1. The _S415 “Dehum Enabled” parameter allows enabling / disabling the dehumidification function w/o the need to
remove fuses or cheat other settings to achieve no start for dehumidification.
2. % Cooling (compressor(s) or valve(s)will always be the greater between CFC and CFD; if CFD asks for i.e.70% and CFC
asks for 80%, the cooling device will operate at 80%.
3. Variable Fanspeed: Basically the Fanspeed during dehumidification is the greater request between CFC and CFD. See
below scenarios for details.

1.1.11.1 Chilled Water Dehumidification


1. On Chilled Water units dehumidification is started when the CFD calculates a requirement of 30% and deactivated
when the CFD=0%
2. For overcooling, the valve is closed when the control temperature drops below Low Limit 2 and re-enabled to its
required proportional value when the control temperature rises above the Low Limit 2 reset value.
3. In any case the valve will operate on the higher request of CFC and CFD.
4. Fanspeed control(_S146 set to “AUTO”):
a. Dehum (w/o CFC) can proportionally ramp the fanspeed up to _S149 “VSD Setpoint Dehum”, and not higher.
b. When CFD is below _S149 “VSD Setpoint Dehum” the fan will ramp between the _S148 “Fanspeed Setpoint
MIN” and _S149 “Fanspeed Setpoint Dehum”.
c. When the CFC is requesting a higher speed than CFD then the fanspeed will ramp above the _S149 “VSD
Setpoint Dehum” according the CFC – up to _S148 “VSD Setpoint STD”.
5. Fanspeed control(_S146 set to “MANUAL”):
a. When dehum starts (reaching CFD to be equal to _S149 “VSD Setpoint Dehum”) the fanspeed is set to _S149
“VSD Setpoint Dehum”, and this speed will be kept until the CFD goes to 0% (dehum off).
b. When the CFC increases to 100% then the fanspeed will be set to _S148 “VSD Setpoint STD”.
c. When the CFC decreases to or lower than _S149 “VSD Setpoint Dehum” then the fanspeed will be set back to
_S149 “VSD Setpoint Dehum”.

1.1.11.2 Low Limit 2


1. _S118 “Low Limit 1” and _S119 “Low Limit 2” become active if the control temperature drops below a temperature
value equal to the sum of the temperature set-point plus the value set on _S118 and _S119.
2. Low Limit 2 will disable chilled water dehum configurations.
3. Dehum shall be enabled again when the temperature increases and reaches LL1 or LL2 temperature + internal
hysteresis.
1.2 Various Control
1.2.1 Loss of temperature control sensor
1. If there is no valid value from the temperature control sensor, the unit reads the shared values from the remaining
sensors (only if teamwork mode = 1 or 2).
2. If no shared value/teamwork is available the unit shut down.

1.2.2 Loss of humidity reading (Control Sensor)


1. If there is no valid humidity value from the control sensor, the unit reads the shared values from the remaining
sensors (only if teamwork mode = 1 or 2).
2. If no shared value/teamwork is available the Economizer shall be locked out.

1.2.3 Loss of humidity reading (Sensor C – Economizer Outdoor Sensor)


1. If there is no valid temperature or humidity value from economizer outdoor sensor, the Economizer shall be locked

1.2.4 Coil Flush

1. 3 types of humidity control management can be set on this parameter:
a) Relative: the control starts hum / dehum according the reading of the humidity sensor.
b) Compensated: if enabled, the Humidity Setpoint is recalculated with the actual deviation from the temperature
setpoint. For 1°C deviation from the temperature setpoint the humidity setpoint is changed by 3%rH, indirect
proportional: if the temperature increases, the hum setpoint is decreased, and vice versa. The recalculated
setpoint is shown as Actual Humidity Setpoint. Together with the modification of the humidity setpoint also the
thresholds (high or low humidity) will be recalculated.
c) Predictive: if enabled, the actual humidity reading from the humidity sensor is recalculated with the actual
deviation from the temperature setpoint. For 1°C deviation from the temperature setpoint the humidity reading
is changed by 3%rH, direct proportional: if the temperature increases, the hum reading is increased, and vice
versa. Together with the modification of the humidity reading also the thresholds (high or low humidity) will be
recalculated. The Graphs will show the real (unchanged) reading of the sensor.

Supply Sensor
1. Once a Supply Sensor is connected, it can be set to operate in 4 possible modes.
2. _S124 “Supply Sensor” can be set to:
a. Disabled
i. In that case a connected Supply Sensor will show the value on the Display, no alarm if
disconnected.
b. Limit
i. In order to avoid too low supply temperatures, _U105 / _S124 “Supply Sensor” can be enabled,
and the lowest allowed supply air temperature can be set on U106 / S125 “Supply Setpoint”.
ii. The Supply Limit influences the opening of chilled water / freecooling valves, analog actuators.
iii. The Fanspeed output is not affected by the Supply Limit.
iv. 2 control circuits are always active:
1. The return air control calculates the control deviation
2. The supply air control calculates the control deviation
v. The value used to drive the valves capacity is the smaller of the two calculations.
vi. Note: Supply Limit is a local function; only local unit values (return temperature, supply
temperature) are used to calculate it.
c. Control
i. Selectable Control Types: P, PI and Intelligent.
ii. When Supply Control is set, all activities which usually are managed by the return air deviation
will be swapped to the supply air deviation.
iii. Speed filters are applied for Supply Control (only) depending on the position inside the p-band to
avoid overshoot and unstable operation.
1. The Filters are affecting the speed of change of the Call for Cooling (CFC) for the chilled
water valve and for the digital scroll capacity.
2. The filters can be set to allow a max change from 0.01%-100.00%/sec.
3. Different values can be set at p-band setpoint (0%) and at max p-band value (100%).
4. Typically the filter will be slow near the setpoint and fast at the end of the P-band.
5. The actual CFC filter will be modulated depending on the position in the P-band and the
max change settings at each end of the range.
6. The filter values are set using parameter _S132 “Capacity Change” (at 0%/100%)
iv. The humidity control will remain on the return air control.
v. Supply Control can be set only on:
1. CW unit if _S408 “Valve Control” set to 1 (Feedback) or if one of _A163-_A166 (Analog
Output 1-4) is set to 0 (CW 0-10V) or 25 (CW 2-10V).
vi. Supply Control on Fans:
1. Only Auto, Manual or Delta can be set on _S146 “VSD Fanspeed” (Economy and Supply
Limit are disabled).
2. In AUTO mode the fanspeed follows the same strategy as in Return Air Control.
vii. Supply Control on Heaters:
1. The heaters control follows the same strategy as in Return Air Control.
viii. Supply Control on Chilled Water Valve(s):

iv. Only Auto, Manual or Delta can be set on _S146 “VSD Fanspeed” (Economy and Supply Limit are
disabled).
v. In AUTO mode the fanspeed follows the same strategy as in Return Air Control. The fanspeed
follows the Return CFC, up to 100% _S148 “VSD Setpoint STD” and down to _S148 “VSD Setpoint
MIN”.
vi. All fanspeed settings are visible.
vii. The CFC for the fan is the one calculated from the Return Temperature control.
viii. The fanspeed ramp is calculated between 0 and 100% of the (return) proportional band.
ix. Humidity is controlled via Return Temperature control.
x. Cooling / Heating is controlled via Supply Temperature control.
xi. During Heating and Humidification the Fanspeed will be set to the value of _A161 “Fanspeed
Heat/Hum”.

1.2.6 VSD Variable Fan Speed Drive


1. An analog output can be set to Var Speed to drive the unit’s main fan.
2. Parameters involved are (= fanspeed settings):
a. _S146 “VSD Fanspeed”
i. 0 = Auto
ii. 1 = Manual
iii. 2 = Economy
iv. 3 = Supply Limit (not selectable)
v. 4 = Delta
b. _S147 “Airflow Calibration” (0.0-10.0V): Maximum allowable fan output voltage. This is what all of the fan
speed percentage values in the Service menu are scaled from. This value cannot be set above the Analog
Output High Limit, or below the Analog Low Limit for the fan.
c. _S148 “VSD Setpoint STD” (0-100%): Standard speed of the unit
d. _S148 “VSD Setpoint MIN” (0-100%): Minimum speed of the unit
e. _S149 “VSD Setpoint Dehum” (0-100%): used during dehum
f. _S149 “VSD Setpoint No Power” (0-100%): used when CI is active
g. _A161 “Fanspeed Min Heat/Hum” (0-100%): These values are scaled from the Analog High Limit. These
values are treated as low limits for the fan output voltage during the time heating or humidification is
occurring: if a higher call for fanspeed occurs, the fan will operate at the higher call. These values cannot
be set to represent a voltage less than the Analog Low Limit.
h. _A161 “Fanspeed Min Dehum” (0-100%): This value is scaled from the Analog High Limit. It operates similar
to the Heat and Humidification Min speeds also on A161, and represents the lowest allowable fan voltage
during dehumidification. This parameter is used for DX units only. The “VSD Setpoint Dehum” setting on
line _S149 will adjust and limit itself automatically, so that it cannot represent a voltage below the “Min
Dehum” setting. This value cannot be set to a value which would represent a voltage less than the Analog
Low Limit.
3. The MIN Fan Speed is dependent on the Airflow Calibration voltage in the Service Menu, and its Analog Output Low
Limit setting in the Advanced Menu. The STD fan speed can always be set up to 100%, regardless of the value of the
Airflow Calibration voltage for the fan. In that way, setting the STD speed to 100% will mean that the fan output
signal voltage will be equal to the Airflow Calibration voltage at 100% CFC. The MIN fan speed setting has a
minimum allowable setting equal to the ratio of the fan’s Analog Output Low limit over the Airflow Calibration
voltage.
a. Example 1: Analog Output Low Limit = 6V, Airflow Calibration voltage = 9V, Fan Speed STD = 100%, Fan
Speed MIN = 66%. Since the ratio of the Analog Output Low Limit over the Analog Output High Limit = 6/9
= 0.666666 => 66%, the Fan Speed MIN setting cannot be set below 66%. Therefore, since the Fan STD and
MIN speeds are at their respective limits, the fan speed output voltage will be permitted to go anywhere
between 6 and 9 volts, in response to the CFC.
b. Example 2: Analog Output Low Limit = 6V, Airflow Calibration voltage = 9V, Fan Speed STD = 90%, Fan
Speed MIN = 70%. In this situation, the fan STD speed and MIN speed are set away from their respective
limits. Therefore, the range of the fan output voltage will be less than in the previous example: the
minimum fan output voltage = 70%*9V = 6.3V, and the maximum fan output voltage (for cooling
operation) = 90%*9V = 8.1V.
c. Example 3: Analog Output High Limit = 10V, Fanspeed Min Heat/Hum = 95%, Airflow Calibration = 9 V.
When the unit gets a call for heating or humidification, the fan output will ramp to 9.5V, and the front
panel fan graph will show 100%, even though the fan voltage is above the Airflow Calibration value.
d. Example 4: Analog Output High Limit = 10V, Fanspeed Min Dehum = 70%, Airflow Calibration = 9V. In this
instance, the VSD Setpoint Dehum will be set to 77% (7V / 9V), and not allowed to go below that value.
4. In case of 2 settings request different speeds (i.e. Cooling and Dehum) the control will always use the higher request.
5. When variable speed is selected (not 1 = Manual) is selected, then Speed filters are applied depending on the
position inside the p-band to avoid overshoot and unstable operation.
a. The Filters are affecting the speed of change of the required fanspeed.
b. The filters can be set to allow a max change from 0.1%-100.0%/sec.
c. Different values can be set at p-band setpoint (0%) and at max p-band value (100%).
d. Typically the filter will be slow near the setpoint and fast at the end of the P-band.
e. The actual filter will be modulated depending on the position in the P-band and the max change settings at
each end of the range.
f. The filter values are set using parameter _S151 “Fanspeed Change” (at 0%/100%)
g. A fanspeed reposition delay timer is applied for all variable control modes to prevent the fan from
oscillating up and down. The reposition delay is applied only for changes to decrease fanspeed; increases
in fanspeed are controlled only by the fanspeed change speed filter. After fanspeed is increased the timer
will prevent the speed from being reduced for the delay duration. Delay time is set using parameter _A152
“Fanspeed Reposition Delay”.
6. Front Panel: Fan Graph
a. The front panel graph will indicate values which are between the 100% (when the fan output voltage is at
or above the Airflow Calibration voltage) and the Fan MIN setting in the Service menu.
i. Example 1: Analog Output Low Limit = 6V, Airflow Calibration voltage = 9V, Fan Speed STD = 90%,
Fan Speed MIN = 70%. In this case, the bar graph in the main window of the display will show a
value between 70% and 90%: 90% at the maximum allowed output voltage (8.1V, see example
above) and 70% at the minimum allowed output voltage (6.3V).
ii. Example 2: Analog Output Low Limit = 6V, Airflow Calibration voltage = 8.1V, Fan Speed STD =
100%, Fan Speed MIN = 78%. Note that while the operational voltage range of the fan is the
same as in Example 1 (6.3V to 8.1V), the front panel graph will now show values between 78%
and 100%.
7. _S146 “VSD Fanspeed” set to “AUTO”
a. This setting is selectable in all cooling configurations; Return- or Supply Control.
b. All fanspeed settings (see above) are visible
c. Selecting “AUTO” on _S146 “VSD Fanspeed” shall be possible in all unit configurations.
d. The fanspeed follows the CFC: it will initiate ramping its speed once the CFC is equal to _S148 “VSD
Setpoint MIN”, and will reach the VSD Setpoint STD speed when the CFC is 100%.
e. During Heating and Humidification the Fanspeed will be set to the value of _A161 “Fanspeed Heat/Hum”.
f. Note: for single source units the fanspeed ramp is calculated between 0 and 100% of the proportional
band.
g. Note 1: for FC/DF units (_A137 “Cooling Type” = 1 or 2) the fanspeed ramp is calculated between 0 and
50% of the proportional band (when _A141 “Comp + FC Simultaneously” is set to “Yes”)
h. Note 2: based on the “Freecooling Capacity Calculation” (see Error! Reference source not found.) the
freecooling valve could ramp up to 100% at any position in the proportional band between 0 and 50% - the
fanspeed will follow the freecooling valve.
Fanspeed “Auto”

8. _S146 “VSD Fanspeed” set to “Manual”


a. This setting is selectable in all cooling configurations; Return- or Supply Control.
b. All fanspeed settings are visible, except _S148 “VSD Setpoint MIN”.
c. During normal operation the fan will operate at the fixed speed set in _S148 “VSD Setpoint STD”.
d. During dehumidification, the fan speed will depend on the speed set in _S149 “VSD Setpoint Dehum”, and
on the second selection on _S419 “Dehum Fan Cntl”. If _S419 “Dehum Fan Cntl” is set to “Yes”, then the
fan will operate at the speed on _S149 “VSD Setpoint Dehum” if there is a call for dehumidification. If
_S419 “Dehum Fan Cntl” is set to “No”, then the fan will operate at the VSD Setpoint STD speed when
there is a call for dehumidification, as long as the STD speed is above the _S149 “VSD Setpoint Dehum
speed”.
e. When the “No Power” event is active the fan will operate at the fixed speed set in _S149 “VSD Setpoint No
Power”.
f. During Heating and Humidification the fanspeed will be set to the value of _A161, “Fanspeed Heat/Hum”.
9. _S146 “VSD Fanspeed” set to “Economy”
a. “Economy” is selectable for CW and FC/DF units only (_A137 “Cooling Type” = 1 or 2 and _A141 “Comp +
FC simultaneously” is set to “Yes”); and for Return Control ONLY (_S124 “Supply Sensor” 0 [disabled] or 1
[Limit]).
b. All fanspeed settings are visible.
c. The FC/CW valve is opened to 100% when the CFC reaches 50%.
d. The fanspeed is modulated between _S148 “VSD Setpoint STD” and _S148 “VSD Setpoint MIN”

Fanspeed “Economy”
e. During Dehumidification the fan will operate at the fixed speed set in _S149 “VSD Setpoint Dehum”.
f. When the “No Power” event is active the fan will operate at the fixed speed set in _S149 “VSD Setpoint No
Power”.
g. During Heating and Humidification the Fanspeed will be set to the value of _A161 “Fanspeed Heat/Hum”.
h. If Supply Air Limit Control is selected, the valve is not going to be closed if the supply air control reports a
lower deviation than the return air control, but the difference (in %) is added to the fanspeed (directly on
the output, with the maximum limit set on _S148 “VSD Fanspeed STD”.
i. Only if the Fan is already operating on STD speed, the valve will operate with the smaller deviation
between return control and supply control, while the fan operates on _S148 “VSD Fanspeed STD”.
j. During Dehum and No Power operation the supply control is switched to inactive.
10. _S146 “VSD Fanspeed” set to “Delta”
a. All fanspeed settings are visible.
b. Sensor A (U301 Optional Sensor A Temperature) and Sensor B (_U303 “Optional Sensor B Temperature”)
are mandatory for this operation mode.
vi. In case “A” or “B” is disconnected, the fanspeed changes to _S148 “VSD Setpoint STD”.
c. The control has to achieve a constant delta t between those 2 sensors, set in _S153 “Fanspeed Delta”.
vii. If delta (Sensor “A” – Sensor “B”) = less than setpoint, decrease speed
viii. If delta (Sensor “A” – Sensor “B”) = greater than setpoint, increase speed
d. During Dehumidification the fan will operate at the fixed speed set in _S149 “VSD Setpoint Dehum” or
higher, if the delta requires.
e. When the “No Power” event is active the fan will operate at the fixed speed set in _S149 “VSD Setpoint No
Power”.
f. During Heating and Humidification the Fanspeed will be set to the value of _A161, “Fanspeed Heat/Hum”
or higher, if the delta requires.
g. “Delta” is controlled in PI mode, settings are _S154 “Fanspeed P-Band“ and _S155 “Fanspeed Integration”.

1.2.7 Cold Aisle Function


1. This function allows managing a system in order to keep the desiderate temperature and humidity value inside
a “cold aisle”; The Teamwork parameter has to be to 1.
2. Temperature and humidity is read by the remote THB sensor (up to 3 for each unit) located inside a “cold aisle”.
3. Temperature is used to active and deactivates the standby units in accordance with temperature deviation and
to manage the speed of evaporator fans.
4. Each single unit manages it own cooling resource in accordance with its own supply temperature sensor and
supply setpoint.
5. Humidity is used to manage the humidity control devices of the activated units only.
6. The temperature and humidity values used by “Cold Aisle” function depends from the number of enabled
remote THB sensors and in accordance with the filter type setting; average or highest value. These values are
shown in the main system page of Cold Fire display (Cold Aisle icons are shown) in place of the standard share
return temperature; only the supply temperature represents the share supply temperature as on standard
application.
7. All parameters needed to define the “Cold Aisle” function operating mode are available on “Cold Aisle” menu
(Service Area) apart from those parameters, normally used to define the humidity control which remains the
standard.
8. The standard return THB sensor is used by the “Cold Aisle” function is used by control if any remote THB sensor
is enabled or available.
9. The share supply temperature is used by the control if the unit supply sensor is not available.
10. This function is available only if ECFan Full is selected.
11. Graphic Data Record (system): The value of temperature and humidity, stored by Data Graphic Record function,
represents the value of temperature and humidity used by “Cold Aisle” function when enabled.

1.2.7.1 Cold Aisle Fan Cascade Mode 1


1. Only one of the units on system actives the fan (standby units are not included).
2. The speed is modulated within the aisle temperature proportional band between Min. and System Limit values.
3. When the speed is equal higher than the “System Limit” setting and the condition is true for the minimum time
set, than the next unit is enabled to active the fan; all other units will be called (step by step) to active the fan if
such condition continues to persist.
4. The “System Limit” speed value is shifted to Max. speed value after that all fans have been activated and the
condition (all fans ON) continues to persist for the minimum time set.
5. The “System Limit” speed is applied again as soon as the actual speed drops below the “System Limit” set value.
6. The fans are deactivated (step by step) when the temperature is lower than the Aisle Setpoint and the condition
is true for the minimum time set.

1.2.7.2 Cold Aisle Fan Cascade Mode 2


1. Only one of the units on system actives the fan (standby units are not included).
2. The speed is modulated within the aisle temperature proportional band.
3. When the speed is equal higher than the “System Limit” setting and the condition is true for the minimum time
set, than the next unit actives the fan; all other units will be called (step by step) to active the fan if such
condition continues to persist.
4. The fans are deactivated (step by step) when the temperature is lower than the Aislee Setpoint and the
condition is true for the minimum time set.
1.2.7.3 Cold Aisle Events Management
1. The following events are managed by the “Cold Aisle” function:
• The “Remote THB Sensor 1 Failure” (237 ρΣ1) warning is activated when the THB sensor 1 is enabled
but not available (auto-reset function).
• The “Remote THB Sensor 2 Failure” (238 ρΣ2) warning is activated when the THB sensor 2 is enabled
but not available (auto-reset function).
• The “Remote THB Sensor 3 Failure” (239 ρΣ3) warning is activated when the THB sensor 3 is enabled
but not available (auto-reset function).
• The “Remote THB Team Sensors Failure” (244 ρΣΦ) warning is activated when any enabled THB
sensor is available (auto-reset function).
• The “Wrong Damper Position” (073 ΠΟΣ) event is activated when the damper control is enabled and
the status of damper doesn’t match with the fan status request (manual reset).
• The “High Aisle Temperature” (022 ΗΤ1) warning is activated when the temperature inside the cold
aisle reaches the limit. It is automatically reset when the temperature drops is 2.0°C down the limit
set.
• The “High Aisle Temperature” (023 ΗΤ2) alarm is activated when the temperature reaches the limit.
• The “High Aisle Humidity” (024 ΗΗ1) warning is activated when the humidity reaches the limit set. It
is automatically reset when the humidity drops is 3% down the limit set.
• The “High Aisle Humidity” (025 ΗΗ2) alarm is activated when the humidity reaches the limit set.
2. Note: the temperature and humidity events are ignored for a time of 1 minute when system is activated (ON);
the minimum condition time, after the initial delay, is defined through the _S243, _S244, _S245 and _S246
parameters.

1.2.7.4 Cold Aisle THB ID# Setting


1. Set the ID# of Remote THB sensors which have to be located inside the cold aisle as indicated.

1.2.8 Virtual Master


1. This function, if enabled, allows the “system reorganization” when the master (unit with the Hirobus ID#1) is not
available. In this condition the system is automatically “re-organized” by the “Virtual System” function which assigns
the “master function” at first unit available and adapting the number of standby units (if required) in accordance
with the current number of available units and the standby parameter set. In this condition the “virtual master unit”
manages all system function in place of the master unit (unit with Hirobus ID#1).
2. The “No Connection w/Unit 1” (070 νετ) warning is activated by all units which are not connected to the master unit
but, without any impact on “Virtual System” status.
3. The system page of the Large Cold Fire Display does not show any value (as usually) when the master unit is missing;
Status of “Virtual System” is shown at Network pages of Advance area.
4. Note: System configuration is possible only through the master unit (unit with id#1) and when all units are connected
as usually.
5. All parameters needed to define the “Virtual Master” function are available on “Virtual Master System Settings”
menu (Advanced Area).

1.2.9 Sleep Mode


1. _U602 “Sleep Mode Enable”: If set to “No”, all day and interval settings shall be ignored, the unit will never go into Sleep
Mode.
2. _U603-U604: defines full days of sleep (timer mode)
3. _U605-U608: defines for days, not selected for full sleep, the time when the sleep mode shall happen.
4. 2 intervals a day can be realized.
5. If the temperature or humidity rises over/under the thresholds set in the “Set Alarms” menu, the sleep mode
will be interrupted and the unit operates in normal mode.
6. The “Timer Mode” parameter (_U609) set to NO will keep the unit in normal mode as long as it was set back to YES and
back to NO.
a. If permanently set to YES, the unit will go back to sleep at the next interval.
b. If set to “Auto” the unit will “sleep” again as soon as T + H are at the setpoint again.
7. _U610, _U611 defines what happens in sleep mode:
1. SYSTEM OFF: unit shuts down during the sleep mode.
2. DEADBAND: an additional deadband (selectable by _U611) for temperature will be inserted, the humidity control will
be switched off during the sleep.

1.2.10 Next Maintenance Calculation


1. The next maintenance calculation as well as the included diagnostics will help to run the AC unit in an optimum way,
to ensure minimum components stress resulting in reliability.
2. The diagnostics will help the service-engineer to evaluate the units operation, reading back the data until the
previous maintenance.
3. Following components are included in the calculation (each of them individually):
a. Fan(s)
b. El. Heaters
c. Humidifier
d. Economizer
4. Following parameters will be available in the menu:
a. General :
i. Standard service interval (1 to 12 times a year) (to be set).
ii. Maximum bonus to enlarge time to next maintenance (to be set).
iii. Maximum penalty to reduce time to next maintenance (to be set).
b. For each individual component:
i. Working hours since last maintenance (counted).
ii. Number of starts since last maintenance (counted).
iii. Average running time since last maintenance (calculated).
iv. Number of Alarms since last maintenance.
5. The Calculation is done as follows:
a. First step: giving a grade to each component.
i. The grade is calculated with the actual number of starts from today, and the optimum and
maximum number of starts per day, and is updated every 24 hours. The calculated average
between optimum starts and maximum starts per day is considered as neutral line. If optimum is
set to 10 and maximum is set to 90, the neutral line will be 50 starts per day. If for example the
compressor has these settings and starts 50 times a day, his grade will be 0 (zero).
ii. If the compressor starts only 10 times a day, a grade of +1 will be the result (which is good), at
100 starts per day the grade will be -1 (which is bad). If the compressor would double the
difference between neutral line and maximum ( = 130 starts per day: 90 (max) – 50 (neutral) =
40; 90 + 40 = 130) the grade for this day would be 2. At 170 starts the grade would be 3 etc.
iii. The same calculation is used also if the actual number of starts would be lower than the
optimum.
iv. After the first day of unit operation all grades for all components are stored separately. After the
second day the new grades are added to the yesterday’s grades mathematically: if yesterday was
a “bad” day (-3) and today was a “good” day (+4) for the component, the result after 2 days
would be : +1. Same next day etc.
v. If after a “stressed” day a “relaxed” day comes, the component comes back to neutral or close to
it. Internally all grades are calculated with 2 decimals.
b. Second step: Comparing the grades with the minimum and maximum penalty.
i. If a maintenance frequency is set, the grades could (if set so) shift the next maintenance to a
earlier or later time.
ii. The grades represent months at the same time. A grade +3 means maintenance required 3
month later, a grade of -2 means 2 months earlier.
iii. Even if the actual grade of a component would be -44 or +55, the maximum penalty and the
maximum bonus are respected: this is the maximum shifting range, even if some component
would ask for more months of shifting earlier or later.
iv. If both the penalty and the bonus are set to 0, just the maintenance per year setting will be
respected, without shifting the date – the grades can be read out anyhow in the wellness menu.
c. Third step: Calculating the next maintenance time and filling the graph in the main and the units screens.
i. Each unit has its own maintenance graph on its main screen. This graph fills by time, and will be
full if it is time to have the maintenance. If no bonus/penalty is set, the graph just follows the
frequency set: once, twice or 4 times a year. Below the graph there is an indication of
month/year when the graph will be full and maintenance needs to be done.
ii. If a bonus or penalty is set, the month/year indication will change accordingly, and the graph will
fill slower or faster – depending on the “wellness” of the unit.
iii. Note: for the graph filling and time calculation the worst component (highest negative grade) will
be used.
iv. The system screen simply copies the graph of the unit with the closest maintenance time – the
customer will see on the main screen always the nearest maintenance to be organized.
d. Fourth step: Customer information
i. Once the graph is full, maintenance needs to be done. The little wrench besides the graph starts
to blink, and the main screen automatically shows the contacts page with addresses and
telephone numbers + the information that maintenance needs to be done. “ESC” will jump back
to the original main screen. Next day the screen will jump again to the “maintenance needs to be
done” which can be left again with “ESC”.
ii. This will go for one month day by day, and after this month additionally the red led will be lit –
still with full performance of the unit.
iii. Note: “Fourth step” activities will not happen if the maintenance frequency is set to “NO”.

1.2.11 Menu "Event Override"


1. This menu allows to activate events by just setting the item to “yes”. This is mainly used to test communication to
BMS.
2 Events
2.1 Event Properties
1. Some events have the possibility to change their type, the time delay or can be enabled or disabled. See menu “Set
Alarms” in Service Menus. If the event has a safety function (high pressure, low pressure etc.) the safety function will
be executed in any case, independent of the selected event type or if enabled or disabled. The timing on the other
hand will be respected as set.
2. Note: some critical events do not allow having complete possibilities of changing the properties, see event list.
3. Change type: the type of the listed events can be set as:
a. Message (if the event occurs, it will only be entered into the event log)
b. Warning (if the event occurs, a warning will be generated and will be entered into the event log)
c. Alarm (if the event occurs, an alarm will be generated and will be entered into the event log).
i. If a standby unit is set, any alarm will stop the faulty unit and ask the standby unit to start. Standby
activation is achieved on alarms ONLY; messages or warnings will not start the standby unit.
4. Time delay: allows changing the time to be elapsed before to trigger the event.
5. Enable or Disable: disabled events do not show up in the event log, on the display or to monitoring, also the
common alarm relay will not be activated if a disabled alarm occurs.
2.2 High / Low Temperature / Humidity Events
2.2.1 Return / Supply Air Temperature Thresholds
1. Available thresholds are: High / Low Return Temperature Warning.
2. These events are ignored for 1 minute after unit (main fan) on.
d. High / Low Return Temperature Warning:
i. The Return THB temperature is used to compare the value with the threshold.
ii. If the actual value of temperature is higher/lower than the threshold, a warning will appear.
iii. If the temperature constantly stays 1°C /2°F below/above the threshold for a time of 1 minute the
event auto-resets (when acknowledged).
e. Low Supply Temperature Warning
i. This warning is enabled only when _S124 “Supply Sensor” changes to “Limit”, “Control” or “Temp
only”.
ii. The user can enable manually also when “Disabled” is set on _S124 “Supply Sensor”.
iii. The Supply Temperature Sensor is used to compare the value with the threshold.
iv. If the actual value of temperature is lower than the threshold (for the time set in the event
properties), a warning [232, LOW SUPPLY TEMPERATURE] will appear.
v. In addition to the event properties which allow setting the event to “disable” and set a time delay
there is a 5 minutes (hard coded) time delay which disables the event after the main fan has started.
vi. If the temperature constantly stays 1°C /2°F above the threshold for a time of 1 minute the event
auto-resets (when acknowledged).
f. High Supply Temperature Warning
i. This warning is enabled only when _S124 “Supply Sensor” changes to “Control” or “Temp only”.
ii. The user can enable manually also when “Disabled” or “Limit” is set on _S124 “Supply Sensor”.
iii. The Supply Temperature Sensor is used to compare the value with the threshold.
iv. If the actual value of temperature is higher than the threshold (for the time set in the event
properties) a warning [231, HIGH SUPPLY TEMPERATURE] will appear.
v. In addition to the event properties which allow setting the event to “disable” and set a time delay
there is a 5 minutes (hard coded) time delay which disables the event after the main fan has started.
vi. If the temperature constantly stays 1°C /2°F below the threshold for a time of 1 minute the event
auto-resets (when acknowledged).

2.2.2 Return Air Humidity Thresholds


1. Available thresholds are: High Return Humidity Warning, Low Return Humidity Warning.
2. These events are ignored for 1 minute after unit (main fan) on.
3. The humidity value of the Return Air THB is used to compare the value with the threshold.
4. If the actual value of humidity is higher / lower than the related threshold, a warning will appear.
5. If the humidity constantly stays 2%rH below/above the threshold for a time of 1 minute the event auto-resets (when
acknowledged).

2.2.3 Digital Outputs for Events


1. Warning Relay – Alarm Relay
a. Both boards, the Large and the Medium, have 2 output relays:
a. The Warning Relay (P33-11; K11).
b. The Alarm Relay (P36-12; K03).
b. Activated for a relay means:
a. Powered (voltage on the coil) for non PCW configurations.
b. Unpowered (no voltage on the coil) for PCW configurations.
2. Warning Relay
a. The Warning Relay can have 4 different reasons for activation, depending on the _A135, “K11 active on”
parameter setting:
a. Dehum: The relay activates when dehumidification is active.
b. Warning: The relay activates when any event of type Warning is active:
i. The parameter _S232 “WARNING ACTIVATES ALARM RELAY” set to “Yes” maps the signal
of the Warning Relay to the Alarm Relay, the Warning Relay will not activate on warnings
in that case, even if _A135, “K11 active on” is set to Warning.
ii. The functions of the other settings (Dehum, No Power, Freecooling) are not affected from
the _S232 setting.
c. No Power: The relay activates when the event 078 NO POWER (via customer input) is active, no
matter of which event type this event is set to.
d. Freecooling: The relay activates when the unit is on (fan on) and:
i. DT1 is true or DT2 is true, when DT1 is disabled.
e. Air Economizer (all configurations): the FC (=Economizer) output is greater than 1%.
3. Alarm Relay
a. The relay activates when any event of type Alarm is active.
b. And when any event of type Warning is active and the parameter _S232 “WARNING ACTIVATES ALARM RELAY”
set to “Yes”.
2.3 List of Events
Some events can be selected as Message, Warning or Alarm.
Events having no description in the “LCD” column do not appear on the 3 digits display.

3 iCOM Networking
3.1 iCOM Networking Basics
1. iCOM units are using the Global Bus Protocol (GBP) to communicate with each other. This protocol is using TCP/IP
and UDP – both protocols of the IP suite - as underlying protocol layers. Therefore, each iCOM unit needs to be
identified by a unique IP address within the scope of the LAN in which they are installed.
2. By default, each iCOM unit will try to establish a connection with other iCOM units in the same IP subnet in order to
create a group. Whether or not this group of units will then act as a system depends on certain iCOM application
parameters, but - independently from that – the group of iCOM units needs to be “ordered”.
3. This order is defined by assigning a unique “U2U address” to each iCOM unit that belongs to the same group. Note
that this “U2U address” is independent from the IP address of the relevant unit and the allowed range depends on
the type of iCOM board:
a. iCOM I/O Boards: 1 to 32
b. iCOM Display Boards: 33 to 64
4. Note: U2U addresses assigned to iCOM I/O boards must start with #1 and have to be consecutive.
5. None of these restrictions apply to iCOM display boards as they are allowed to use any U2U address within their
range provided that there are no duplicates. For example:

3.1.1 Grouping of iCOM Units


1. This section describes how multiple groups of iCOM units can be created within the same LAN.
3.1.2 Grouping by Using different IP Subnets
1. Section 3.1 explained that each iCOM unit will try to establish a connection with other iCOM units in the same IP
subnet in order to create a group. Implicitly this statement says that separate groups of iCOM units can be created
by placing them into different IP subnets:

2. Note that this is the preferred way of grouping iCOM units as it reduces the (computing) load on all units. The router
between the 2 groups of iCOM units provides an almost physical separation between the networks as none of the
iCOM units in either network will send IP packets that are supposed to be forwarded by the router.
3. Still, it is possible to access both groups of iCOM units from a company intranet or some other additional network
connected to the router. For instance: The “iCOM Service Tool” could be executing on a PC somewhere in the
company intranet and would be able to access both groups of iCOM units at the same time.
4. But it might happen that due to the already existing IT infrastructure at some customer’s site, several groups of
iCOM units must be able to co-exist within the same IP subnet. In such a case the iCOM network parameter “U2U
group” needs to be used, which is described in the following section.

• If - for whatever reason – iCOM units can not be grouped by placing them into different IP subnets, there is also the
option of using the “U2U Group” parameter.
• This parameter is accessible through any iCOM display and defines the U2U group a specific iCOM unit belongs to.
The value of this parameter is transmitted in the header of any GBP message. Upon reception of such a message,
each iCOM unit first checks whether it matches its own setting. Messages sent by iCOM units belonging to the same
U2U group will be processed further, others will simply be discarded.

Proportional (P) Control
The Temperature Proportional Band defines the working range of Cooling and Heating.
It is divided in to equal parts, left part for Heating, right part for Cooling. In the middle there is the Room Temperature Setpoint.
The operator may also program a temperature dead band (DB) adjustment.
Proportional + Integral (PI) Control
The Temp. Integration Factor, if set to any value (minutes), makes the unit (the System) behaving, like the Temperature (I-Deviation) would
increase slowly, even if the real Temperature (P-Deviation) is stable.
The Time selected on this Parameter equals the time, the control needs to double the P-Deviation. The higher the Temperature (the P-Deviation)
the faster the Integration will be, because the value to be doubled is high. The closer the real Temperature (P-Deviation) is coming to the Setpoint,
the slower the Integration will be.
Use of Integration factors: In Systems, consisting of several Units, the Temp. Proportional Band belongs to all units. Setting this Band too small,
enables the hunting of the System, setting correctly wide (app. 2.0 K per Compressor) will badly effect the control precision.
To set the Integration Factor allows both advantages in one: to have the P-Band wide enough, as well as fine control precision.
Intelligent Control
It is not suggested to use this type of control for PCW units.

The parameter defines the number of devices connected. Up to 32 units (control boards) + up to 32 Displays with System view (Large Coldfire
Display, Small Coldfire Display) can be connected together using the Global Bus Protocol.
The connection physically is done using standard CAT5 Ethernet cables.
2 devices (2 units or 1 unit + 1 CF Display can be connected directly using a crossed Ethernet cable, multiple units are interconnected using a switch
or a hub.

Groups of units, connected to a network, can be selected to work together in 3 teamwork modes:

No Teamwork: All units are working independently. No values or sensors are shared (except the outdoor temperature sensor, if present).
Standby function + unit rotation is possible; cascading is not possible in that configuration.
The unit controls cooling/heating and hum/dehum by calculating the deviation between actual setpoint and return air temperature/humidity,
creating 2 values from -100 to + 100%, (one for temperature control, the other one for humidity control) where 0 deviation means the value is on
the setpoint. According to the type of unit and options installed (single compressor, double compressor etc.) the resources are started and stopped
on this -100 / + 100% deviation line.

Teamwork Mode 1
In this teamwork mode most of parameters are shared (see list of parameters table); if set in any of the units, all other units will follow with the
same settings.
Return temperature and humidity of all units in operation (fan on) are averaged (from unit #1) and used for control.
Unit #1 calculates the system deviation and sends the relative parts of the proportional band to the units, which start the requested operations.
The width of the proportional band in multiple unit configuration is shown as normal, but internally unit #1, which sends the requests to the other
units, multiplies the width by the number of available units internally.
The number of available units is calculated like:
a) In no standby configuration: all units with fan on
b) In typical standby function (no cascade): all units with fan on
c) In cascade mode: all units that could operate (no alarm which forces the unit to switch off, unit not switched off etc.)

In teamwork mode 2 all parameters are shared equal to mode 1, and the master units defines, using the averages, if there is a cooling, heating,
dehum or hum request.
If there is a cooling request, all units are released to start cooling resources according their own temperatures; heating is disabled for all units –
and vice versa. Same for humidity control.
Teamwork mode 2 is mainly designed to avoid “fighting” of units within a group.
