✅INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE OF BSED MAJOR IN ENGLISHSTUDENTS: BASIS FOR

PROPOSED INTEGRATION OF INTERNATIONALIZATION IN BSED MAJOR IN ENGLISH CURRICULUM OF
CAGAYAN STATE UNIVERSITY

The study conducted by Saquing (2020) investigates the intercultural communicative competence of
students enrolled in the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) Major in English at Cagayan State
University. The primary objective of this research is to assess how well these students can navigate and
engage with diverse cultural contexts, which is increasingly important in our globalized world.

The findings reveal that these students possess a "competency level" of intercultural communicative
skills, indicating that they are not only aware of their own cultural identities but are also proficient in
understanding and interpreting other cultures. This competence includes a solid grasp of cultural facts
and an openness to different cultural perspectives. The study highlights several facilitating factors, such
as perceived communicative competence, intercultural contact, and second language proficiency, which
contribute to their ability to interact effectively across cultural boundaries.

Given these insights, Saquing argues for the integration of internationalization into the BSED curriculum.
This integration aims to sustain and enhance the intercultural communicative competencies necessary
for future educators, ensuring they are well-equipped to teach in increasingly multicultural classrooms.

capabilities.

✅COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE COMPETENCE AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE USAGE OF JUNIOR HIGH

SCHOOL LEARNERS OF SAN PABLO COLLEGES

The research conducted by Gianne Audrey T. Gutierrez and Joseph Christian P. Gesmundo (2023)
focuses on the communicative language competence and English usage among junior high school
learners at San Pablo Colleges. This study is particularly relevant as it seeks to understand how students
utilize English in various contexts, including at home, on social media platforms, and within their
communities.

The authors emphasize that enhancing communicative competence is crucial for language teachers, as it
fosters greater student engagement and participation in using the target language. They explore
multiple facets of communicative competence, including grammatical accuracy, discourse management,
sociolinguistic awareness, and strategic communication skills. The findings suggest that despite
challenges posed by social dynamics, effective teaching strategies can empower students to use English
confidently as a means of resolving conflicts and building relationships.

✅A DETAILED OVERVIEW ON SOCIOLINGUISTIC COMPETENCE IN PEDAGOGICAL APPLICATIONS

Dedy Subandowo (2022) presents a comprehensive overview of sociolinguistic competence within

educational settings in his paper titled "A Detailed Overview on Sociolinguistic Competence in
Pedagogical Applications." The discussion begins with an examination of communicative competence as
a foundational concept before transitioning into a detailed analysis of sociolinguistic competence.

Subandowo highlights key components that differentiate sociolinguistic competence from other forms
of linguistic ability. He defines sociolinguistics broadly as the study of language within its social context,
drawing on insights from notable linguists such as Trudgill (1983) and Coupland & Jaworski (1997). These
scholars argue that sociolinguistics examines how language varies across different social groups and
contexts, influencing communication styles and dialects. The paper advocates for incorporating
sociolinguistic principles into teaching practices to better prepare students for real-world interactions.

✅The Development and Validation of English Communicative Competence Model for High School
Students in Korea

Choi, Whyun Young, & Kang, Mun-Koo. (2024).This study develops and validates an English
communicative competence model for Korean high school students, in response to the need to redefine
the relevant concepts and components of competence that are demanded by the rapidly evolving future
society.English communicative competence that was constructed and validated in this study, it can serve
as a conceptual framework for the development of English communicative competence models for
middle school students or adults. Specifically, the concepts of high school students’ English
communicative competence validated in this study, the factor structure and concept of sub-
competences, and the factor structure and concept of sub-factors according to sub-competences can be
applied regardless of the age or educational level of the examinee. Hence, when developing an English
communicative competence model for a specific age group or educational level in the future, the
concepts and factor structure of high school students’ English communicative competence validated in
this study can be used as foundational data for the theoretical framework of that research.
