Give your answers in parts (a), (d)(i), (e) and (f) to the nearest dollar.

Manly invested $50 000 in a fixed deposit account with an annual interest rate of 6.5%
compounded semi-annually.

(a) Calculate the value of Manly’s investment after 10 years. Round your answer to the nearest
dollar. [3]
After t months, the amount of money in the fixed deposit account has increased to more

(b) Find the minimum value of t, where 𝑡 ∈ 𝑁, that satisfies this condition.
than $100 000.
[4]
Manly plans to purchase a car that cost $45 000. He makes an initial payment of 25% of
the car’s price and takes out a loan for the remainder.
(c) Write down the amount of the loan. [2]
The loan is for 10 years, compounded monthly, with equal monthly payments of $500 made by
Manly at the end of each month.

(d) For this loan, find:

(i) the amount of interest paid. [2]
(ii) the interest rate of the loan. [2]
After 6 years of paying off this loan, Manly decides to pay the remainder in one final payment.

(e) Find the amount of Manly’s final payment. [3]

(f) Find how much money Manly saved by making one final payment after 6 years. [3]

A campsite constructed a concrete firepit in a shape of solid cuboid, ABCDEFGH, with a length and
width of 62 cm and a height of 42 cm. A depression (spherical hollow) in the shape of a hemisphere with
diameter 48 cm is removed from the center of the top face of the cuboid. M is the center of the base of
the hole. This information can be seen in the diagram below.

a. Calculate the volume of the entire concrete firepit (with the spherical hollow in the middle). [3]
b. What is the surface area of the concrete firepit? [3]
c. Calculate the distance from point A to M. [3]
d. What is the measure of the angle formed by segment AM to the base ADHE? [3]

Anna joins a triathlon. To prepare for the said event she needs to hone her skills in running, swimming
and cycling. She decided to follow a strict exercise program. For 25 sessions she trains for running. In
the first session, Anna runs a distance of 4500 meters. She increases her running distance by 500
meters after every session. However, after every 5th session, she decided to add another 200 meters
on top of the regular increase in distance she initially has since she gets used to the program already.

(a) Write the general formula of Anna’s running distance in the n th training sessions for the
first five days [3]
(b) Write the general formula of Anna’s running distance in the n th training sessions starting
from the sixth day onwards [3]
(c) In which session will Anna first run further than 15 kilometers? [3]
(d) Find the total running distance in the first 25 training sessions, giving the answer in
standard form N ×10 k. [4]

After finishing the running program, she continues with the swimming program. In this program, in the
first session she swims 1200 meters and increases the swimming distance by 3.5% after each
session.

(e) Write the general formula of Anna’s swimming distance in the 𝑛th training sessions. [2]
(f) Find Anna’s swimming distance in the 15th training session. [2]
