Rationale
In today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world, the access to new things has
increased which inturn increases the competition among young adults. Digital media often
promotes “hustle cultures” which sometimes overlook the work- life balance, resulting in an
unhealthy lifestyle due to stress and emotional distress. These unhealthy lifestyles may
include things such as stress resulting in binge watching or maladaptive behaviours like
smoking or eating habits. While technology serves as a useful tool for communication, work,
and relaxation, its misuse or overuse has a darker side. Addressing the interconnected nature
of stress, binge behaviors, and digital dependency is critical for fostering healthier lifestyles.
Introduction
In the modern era, digital technology has seamlessly integrated into every aspect of
our lives, offering unparalleled convenience and connectivity. However, this reliance on
digital devices has also given rise to significant challenges, particularly in how we manage
stress and develop coping mechanisms. Many individuals, especially young adults, turn to
maladaptive behaviors like binge-eating, binge-watching, or excessive social media use as a
response to stress, often unaware of the long-term consequences. These behaviors, fueled by
digital overuse, disrupt sleep patterns, encourage sedentary lifestyles, and contribute to
emotional dysregulation. The result is a cycle where stress exacerbates maladaptive habits,
leading to an unhealthy lifestyle that is difficult to break.
This topic highlights the urgent need to examine the link between stress, maladaptive
behaviors, and digital overuse to reclaim control over our physical, emotional, and mental
well-being.
