CASE STUDY 1

PROBLEM STATEMENT OF HOSPITAL PATIENT MANAGEMENT

SYSTEM

The proposed software product is the Hospital Patient Management System (HPMS). The
system will be used by the hospital management for allocating beds and doctors to
patients. Doctors can use the system to keep track of their patients. Nurses who are in
direct contact with the patients will use the system to keep track of available beds, the
patients in the different wards, and the types of medication required for each patient.

PROBLEM STATEMENT OF HOTEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The proposed software product would aid in efficient functioning of a hotel with details
about different types of rooms, their availability and tariffs. It should also keep details
about discount schemes and packages offered by the hotel to the customers and would aid
in advance booking and cancellations online along with automatic generation of a
customer’s bill.

PROBLEM STATEMENT OF UNIVERSITY REGISTRATION SYSTEM

The proposed software would aid in smooth registration process of a university. A


university has various departments and a number of courses in each department. The
system should enable the users (students/faculty/administration) to perform various tasks
corresponding to their roles such as access of their own registration card by the students
and/or list of papers a student can opt from. A faculty can keep all the details regarding
the number of students, their corresponding programmes and other details etc. An
administrator can check programme details, faculty details, total number of registered
students etc.

PROBLEM STATEMENT OF AIR TICKET RESERVATION SYSTEM

Air ticket reservation system is a software required to automate the Reservation System
for an Airline at an Airport. The system should accommodate for maintenance of a user
account, flight database, ticket reservations and cancellations and report generations
regarding ticket availability, daily bookings etc. It should make the reservation process
easier and should also account for the correct amount to be refunded in case of
cancellations.

PROBLEM STATEMENT OF INSURANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The proposed software system should aid in smooth functioning of an insurance agency.
It should enable efficient management of different clients, should be able to store details
about different policies and should also store information about different agents. The
system should be able to recommend appropriate policies on the basis of customer
profiles and should also generate appropriate reminders for timely insurance installments.

PROBLEM STATEMENT OF COURSE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The software should enable efficient management of courses, a student has opted for
online. The student should be able to view his attendance, download course material,
check his grades and network with other classmates. A faculty can upload their class
lectures, grades and give online assignments with the help of the system.

PROBLEM STATEMENT OF TENANT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The software proposes to manage and enable services offered to tenants during the lease
period. The facilities include online rent payment, request for maintenance service,
inspection reports, security deposit management, tracking of critical dates such as lease
renewal and tenancy consultation.

The software proposes to manage and enable smooth functioning of an ATM which
would include the standard ATM transaction types such as cash withdrawals, balance

inquiries, PIN change, mini statements, cash deposits and funds transfer. It may also
include some value added services like bill payment or mobile top ups etc.

PROBLEM STATEMENT OF PARKING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The software incorporates various facilities to provide parking guidance and


management. The system deals with automated control of barrier controls and gates and
enables automated fee payments depending on the duration or on the basis of issued
passes. It also provides parking guidance and vehicle counting and can generate a number
of reports related to revenue generated and license plate recognition.

PROBLEM STATEMENT OF CHAT SERVER SYSTEM

Instant messaging applications are used to collaborate on group projects and exchange
data more effectively. LAN based messenger software has to be developed that works on
LAN without the need of an Internet connection or a dedicated server i.e. it works on the
peer-to-peer networking model. The client has a user interface which supports all the
features of a standard instant messenger such as chat, group conference, presence
management and file transfer.

PROBLEM STATEMENT OF ATTENDANCE TRACKING SYSTEM

The goal of the system is to capture time and attendance data for accurate payroll
processing and an insight into workforce productivity for an organization. An employee
electronically marks his in time and out time everyday in order for proper calculation of
attendance data. This data should be further processed to provide overtime management
and absence management.

PROBLEM STATEMENT OF VIDEO LIBRARY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The Video Library management system should enable customers to find their desired
CD’s according to their specific queries (name of song/ year of release etc.). It should
enable managers and employees to work out sale details, create reorder alarms, report
generation and should enable market situations analysis as per customer demands and
requirements.
