INSTRUCTIONS:

- This exam consists of 12 questions. All questions are

compulsory.
- Separate your answers with a horizontal line
Questions/60

1. Router is a network device that works at the 3rd OSI layer. What is the
primary function of a router? what is the role of the console port found
on the router? (3 marks)
2. While configuring a router, how do you switch from user EXEC mode to
privileged EXEC mode, and what commands are required to enter
global configuration mode from privileged EXEC mode? (3 marks)
3. Examine the network diagram below and answer the provided
questions.

a. How many static routes would you have to configure on R3 for it

to know all other destination networks shown in the diagram? (2
marks)
b. Explain your answer. (2 marks)

4. PCA and PCB are connected to the switch, as indicated on the network
diagram below. The configurations on each PC are provided.

Will PCA be able to communicate with PCB? Explain your answer. (5

marks)
5. Examine the following static route in R1’s routing table. What
command was used to configure this route? (2 marks)

a. R1(config)# ip route 172.20.0.0 255.255.255.0 g0/1

b. R1(config)#interface g0/1
R1(config-if)#ip address 172.20.0.0 255.255.0.0
c. R1(config)#ip route 172.20.0.0 255.255.255.0 g0/1 172.20.0.1
d. R1(config)#ip route 172.20.0.0 255.255.0.0 g0/1

6. Examine the network below. Complete the table with the static routes
information needed to allow PC1 and PC4 to communicate with each
other. (6 marks)

Hint: R3 is not considered.

7. What is the benefit of using VLSM? (2 marks)

8. Examine R1’s routing table. Which interface will it use to forward

packets destined for 8.8.8.8? (3 marks)

a. GigabitEthernet0/0
b. GigabitEthernet0/1
c. GigabitEthernt0/2
d. It will drop the packet.
9. Which of the following commands configures a default route on a Cisco
router? (3 marks)
a. R1(config)#ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.1.1.254
b. R1(config)#ip route 0.0.0.0/0 10.1.1.254
c. R1(config)#ip route 255.255.255.255 10.1.1.254
d. R1(config)#ip route 0.0.0.0/32 10.1.1.254
10. You have sub-netted your network 200.140.1.0 with a subnet mask
of 255.255.255.252. Please list the following: number of networks,
number of hosts per network, the full range of the first three networks,
and the usable address range from those first three networks.
Additionally, identify the broadcast addresses for each of the first three
networks.
(10 marks)
11. The network consists of three local area networks: LAN 1, LAN 2,
LAN3 and LAN4. These four (4) LANs are connected with four (4) links:
WAN Link 1, WAN Link 2, WAN Link3 and WAN Link4. With an ID range -
of 10.23.22.0/24, please design an IP plan for the network using VLSM
to minimize IP wastage. (10 marks)
