VLSI Implementation of Gold Code Spread Spectrum For CDMA Applications

This document discusses the design and implementation of a Gold code spread spectrum system for CDMA applications. It begins by describing applications of CDMA technology such as military communications, satellite communications, and mobile communications. The project aims to generate Gold code sequences to modulate a message signal for transmission and incorporate a receiver to demodulate the received signal using the same Gold code. It provides block diagrams of the Gold code generator, transmitter, and receiver. Advantages of the system include low power spectral density, privacy due to unknown codes, reduction of multi-path effects, random access capabilities, and good anti-jam performance. The project will be implemented using an HDL and synthesized for an FPGA device.

ABSTRACT VLSI Implementation of Gold Code Spread Spectrum for CDMA based Applications

Aim of Project To design and implementation of Gold Code Spread Spectrum for CDMA based Applications. Application of Project The CDMA technology has numerous applications as well as bright future prospects, mostly in the wireless communication field, some of which shall be described below: 1) The valuable feature of privacy and anti-jamming capabilities, provided by CDMA systems are extremely useful to the military in its secret communication, both wireless and over transmission lines. This is the first largest application of SS-CDMA, worldwide. 2) Satellite communications form another important area of application for this powerful technology. Multiple access of a satellite transponder by many earth stations can be achieved through CDMA technology. Again, coding plays a major role in reduction of co-channel interference and total transmitted signal power.
3)

A Gold code, also known as Gold sequence, is a type of binary sequence, used

in telecommunication (CDMA) and satellite navigation (GPS). Project description In modern communication systems, spread spectrum is playing an increasingly important role day by day due to its inherent advantages like noise immunity and also due its practical applications like mobile communications in CDMA. Our project is in accordance with this increasingly important communication technology. This project aims to Generate Gold Code sequence and modulate a message signal to produce a corresponding spreader baseband modulated signal which is actually used in much higher proportions for transmission of voice and data signals in technologies like CDMA. The project also incorporates a receiver unit which demodulates the entire received signal with the assistance of the same gold code to generate the original message signal.

Low power spectral density: As the signal is spread over a large frequency-band, the

Power Spectral Density is getting very small, so other communications systems do not suffer from this kind of communications. However the Gaussian Noise level is increasing. used. Privacy due to unknown random codes: The applied codes are -in principle -unknown to a hostile user. This means that it is hardly possible to detect the message of another user. Applying spread spectrum: implies the reduction of multi-path effects. Random access possibilities: Users can start their transmission at any arbitrary time. Good anti-jam performance: Because of the difficulty to jam or detect. Interference limited operation: In all situations the whole frequency-spectrum is

Project Implementation Tools The Project implemented in Hardware Description Language (HDL) and Simulation & Synthesis is performed on Xilinx ISE and the design will be targeted to Xilinx Spartan 3E FPGA device.
