SCENE [1]
Place: classroom

The scene is of a regular classroom with students chatting and Asher and Madeline
enter the classroom conversing

Asher: PE was so much fun. By the way, what do we have next?

Madeline: Well.. Your favourite subject: math

Asher: Seriously?! I didn’t do my homework plus I think I left my book at home.

On top of that Mrs Kelley already hates me for no reason.

Madeline: Oh wait my hair isn’t braided. She’s definitely gonna call me out. Can
you do it for me?

Girl2 gives the bow to Asher as Madeline sits down and Asher starts braiding her
hair.

Camilla: “Oh, are we doing our hair? I wanna join in too!”

Camilla pulls Madeline’s hair

Madeline: “Ow! Leave us alone, Camilla!”

Asher: “Yeah, leave us alone, or else

Camilla: “Or else what? You’re gonna make a little Burn Book with your
friend?”

Camilla walks away laughing

Madeline tries to comfort her by putting her hand on her shoulder. The bell rings
and the scene ends.

SCENE [2]
Place: classroom

The girls sit next to each other in math class. Mrs Kelley gets up and walks around
the classroom. Mrs Kelley hands out test papers.

Mrs Kelley: Here are your test results. Frankly, I’m disappointed.

She approaches girl1 and slams test paper on the desk. A giant red f is marked on
the paper.

Mrs Kelley: Your performance has been consistent, consistently bad. I expected
this from you.

Asher is shocked. She can't believe Mrs Kelley thinks of her like that. She scoffs

Asher: I-Im sorry ma’am. I'll try to do better next time-

Mrs Kelley: Don’t even bother, you are not good at anything! I heard that you
dropped out of the sports team, and haven’t submitted any of your projects. Have
you even completed your homework?

Asher shakes her head, slowly and guiltily.

Your parents work so hard to send you to school and this is what you do here? You
aren’t responsible enough to do anything right.

She raises her voice. She slams her fist onto the desk.

Shame on you!

Madeline observes this, from a nearby bench, sympathizing with Asher

Madeline: “Are you ok?”

Asher is on the verge of tears.

Asher: She is so mean. Isn’t she supposed to believe in me? Ugh! I wish she’d just
disappear off the face of the Earth!”

SCENE [3]

Reporter: Breaking news! *Mrs Kelley* —--, a senior school has gone missing
from Bowknot Academy. She was last seen leaving the school at 3 pm yesterday.
This has come as shocking news to all the students and staff. The police have
arrived at the scene and are on a desperate hunt for clues.

*transition to school*

Two police officers are interrogating a girl

Police officer: Did anyone hold a grudge against her? Someone who she might
have wronged?

Student: I mean… Not specifically.. She’s known to fail a lot of students

Police officer: Ok. Thank you. (to the other officer) It’s like Mrs Kelley
disappeared off the face of the Earth or something.

Camilla: So, how is Miss Number One Failure doing?”

Asher: Oh God.. Can you just leave me alone?

 Camilla: Why? So you can be a freak again? You know what everyone is saying
about you being involved with Mrs Kelley disappearing.

Madeline walks in and listens in, standing behind Camilla. (Asher doesn't notice
as her focus is on Camilla and Camilla has her back facing the direction of
Madeline.)

Camilla corners her

Asher : Why do you keep targeting me? Everyone in the class hates ------. (unsure)
I didn’t do anything…

Camilla: Oh really? Look at you getting scared. You’re such a scaredy cat.Oh..
don’t cry.. You’re taking the fun out of this. (laughs)

Asher, sits down in a huff with tears in her eyes and mumbles to herself

Asher: I wish I never have to see her ever again.

Madeline: It’s fine. Don’t waste your time worrying about her. We have physics in
15 minutes.

Asher: You’re right… Some people are just not worth my time. Can we go to the
cafeteria before the physics period starts?

Madeline: Um… Well…I have some work at the lab.. I … um…have to complete
my record before the class starts. I’ll see you later.

Madeline goes to the lab

SCENE [4]
Place: Physics lab
Girls enter and then find the body

Mrs Clifford: Children, please stay as calm as possible,

Asher notices the bow and pockets it when no one is looking.

Mrs Clifford: And do not go near the body. The police will do their jobs.

Student1 : How could such a thing happen?”

Student 2: “I know right… it's horrifying, just plain cruel”

The students chatter anxiously and are escorted out by Mrs Walling to a safer
place.

SCENE [5]
Place: Madeline’s bedroom

Asher is already there with the bow in her hand.

Madeline: “Woah! You scared me, haha… everything.. okay?”

Asher: “It’s nothing, just.. You haven’t been spending much time with me… and
you’re never there during lunch..”

Madeline: “I don’t get it, I've been busy, that's all. What are you on about?”

Asher: “Look.. what i’m trying to say is.. I think you may have something to do
with the disappearance of our Mrs Kelley- and and- the /girl.”

Madeline: “What? Asher, are you even hearing yourself? You sound crazy i-
*sighs*”
Asher: *silence*

Madeline: “Asher.. I can explain I promise i-”

Madeline walks closer to her.

Asher walks backwards, clearly afraid of her friend.

Madeline: “Just hear me out please jus-”

Asher: “WHY? WHY DID YOU DO THIS?” Asher screams in misery.

Madeline: “BECAUSE YOU WERE SO UPSET ABOUT MRS KELLEY AND

CAMILLA! I JUST COULDN’T STAND TO SEE YOU LIKE THAT! It.. it really
hurt me…”

Asher: “But that doesn’t mean you do something like this? I mean murder?! Who
would even do something so sick as that?”

Madeline: I knew you wouldn’t do anything about it Asher… So, I did it all for
you, all for you.”
