CS409 –Introduction to Database Administration

The purpose of this assignment is to give you hands-on practice. It is expected that students
will solve the assignment themselves. The following rules will apply during the evaluation
of the assignment.

 Give the idea of Keys.
 Give the idea of Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD).

Gate Pass Management System
The Gate Pass Management System is an advanced tool designed to monitor and control
vehicle entries and exits for both employees and visitors. This system enables organizations to
manage and record all incoming and outgoing vehicles, contributing significantly to site
security and operational efficiency. As a comprehensive gate pass security system, it not only
helps protect company assets by tracking visitors, contractors, internal departments, company
vehicles, and materials but also ensures that all movements are recorded for accountability.
Frequent visitors benefit from streamlined access, as the system keeps their records easily
accessible, accelerating the entry and exit process. Overall, the Gate Pass Management System
enhances organizational security, simplifies logistical management, and provides a clear,
organized record of all gate pass activities.

Task :
Four major entities (Employee, Visitor, Vehicle, Gate Pass) have been underlined in the
scenario. You will have to draw a comprehensive Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD)
of the system showing these entities, their attributes (specify PKs and FKs as well) and
relationship types between these entities using the above given scenario.

Guidelines:
1. Use Standard UML notations for entities, attributes, PKs and FKs, and relationships.
2. Use Proper naming conventions for entities, attributes and relations.

Syllabus Covered: This assignment covers Topic 1 to Topic 50.
