Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet software application used for the process of organizing
and analyzing numerical data. It was first released in 1985 and has grown to become, arguably
and phenomenally, the most important computer program in workplaces around the world. Since
its inception, Microsoft Excel has changed how people organize, analyze, and visualize their data,
providing a basis for decision-making and analysis for the millions of people who use it each day.
Basically, Microsoft Excel is used for data entry and management, charts and graphs, and
project management. It offers features such as formatting, organizing, visualizing, and
calculating data. Additionally, Excel includes features such as inserting rows and columns,
autofill, filter, sort, duplicate, remove duplicate, paste special, text column, format painter, etc.
Currently, a newly released feature of Microsoft Excel includes Python. Python in Excel
makes it possible to natively combine Python and Excel analytics within the same workbook, with
no setup required. With Python in Excel, you can type Python directly into a cell; the Python
calculations run in the Microsoft Cloud; and your results are returned to the worksheet, including
plots and visualizations. Python in Excel is rolling out to Public Preview for those in the Microsoft
365 Insiders program, using the Beta Channel in Excel for Windows.
Excel is outfitted with many templates for personal and business use. The simplest way to
create a business budget is to select a budget template that’s most appropriate for your
business. Most contain labels for input, formulas for analysis, and other worksheets for the most
recognized budgeting categories, such as income, personnel expenses, and operating expenses.
Users can also manually create their budget by inputting their labels, tables, and formulas.
Working knowledge of Excel is vital for most office-based professionals today, and
stronger Excel skills can open the door to promotion and leadership opportunities. Excel is a
powerful tool, but it cannot function alone. It takes a savvy computer user to take advantage of
everything Excel has to offer to provide the best results for their company.
