Let’s Try This

I think discrimination was evident

Respect was shown to me when…
when…

a) People tried to mock me just

a) People didn't care about on how I
because of my physical
look and my personality.
appearance.

b) When people didn't based on the b) When someone uses my gender

level of intelligence to become as an excuse to not help a guy on
friends with me. carrying a pile of books.

Processing Questions:
1. How do you describe your feelings and thoughts about
respect and discrimination, and why?
Respect is when you agree with the person's opinion or
beliefs that seems to symbolize that person. while
Discrimination is judging others based on their sexual
orientation, religion, gender, age and etc.
I Feel that discrimination is one of the leading
cause of people having low self esteem. why?
because You're pointing out someone's flaws
or insecurity /ices that you shouldn't be. even
though they're sensitive or not, You shouldn't
still make their appearance as an excuse to
question why they look like that.
2. When do you know if respect is being shown? if there
is discrimination? Cite some indicators.
I would easily identify respect if someone interacts
with others fairly. while in discrimination, it is when
you're making their appearance or abilities to not
interact with you. for short, not treating them fairly.
for example, you went to a grocery store and saw a
kid with a disability. you laughed at him without
knowing that he has autism. in addition, you're not
just judging him. rather, you're proving to others
that you don't deserve the respect that you wanted.
and an example for respect is when you have a
friend with a different religion and didn't instruct
him/her to stop believing on their spiritual leaders.
3. Is it possible to replace discrimination with respect?
How?
Yes, it is. Instead of being rude to someone younger
than you just because the kid is being noisy, why not
counsel him/her? with this, the kid would learn
something and won't do it again. and also, learn on
how to be sensitive and know your limits on saying
opinions. we all know that stating your opinion is
allowed but you should know your boundaries. a
single word can hurt somebody so it is best to be
careful with the words that you'll use to avoid any
hindrance.
Let’s Explore This
I respect others when…

1. I give my full attention when someone is speaking.

2. I am thoughtful of them.
3. I am polite towards them.
4. I put all my attention to whatever it is that they are saying.
5. I empathize with their different perspectives.

I may be discriminating others when…

1. I check the brand of the clothes they are wearing.

2. I always compare them to different people.
3. I don't give them a chance to say their opinions.
4. I say hurtful things towards them.
5. I made fun of them.

Processing Questions:
1. What do you notice with your answers?
I've noticed that my answers reflect my personality as a person and
my way of treating other people.
2. What influence the manner that you deal with people?
There are a lot of factors that influence my manner towards other
people but the most important amongst them is the person's attitude
towards me. I've noticed that my feelings toward someone might shift
depending on how
they treat me. If I feel appreciated, I will return the same respect; I will
ensure that the same energy is returned because they treated me
equally and nicely. But if I feel neglected, I will change my attitude
towards them; I am polite only to those who are nice to me, therefore if
I treat people disrespectfully, I want them to think on their past
actions and ask themselves why and what they did to cause me to
treat them that way.
3.How do you build or maintain a harmonious relationship with others?
I build harmonious relationships with others by communicating to
them openly; I make sure that they know my thoughts and feelings
about the certain topic we're talking about for us to avoid
misunderstandings. I also make sure to have room for differences;
we can't expect all the people we talk with to have the same
perspectives, culture, tradition, and feelings like us, after all we all
have different ways on how to understand different things in this
world.

What I have Learned

1. What are your experiences of showing respect to people like
your family, friends, and classmates?
Respect may be expressed in a number of ways. I listen to my
family and fully support them in all they do as a way of paying
them respect. On the other hand, I treat my friends and
students with kindness and politeness as a sign of respect. I
also make effort to take their thoughts into account before
expressing my own views on certain topics. We may already
demonstrate our respect for our family, friends, and
classmates by simply loving and caring for them.
2. How do we keep harmony with others especially during this
time of pandemic?
Even in this epidemic, we can still get along with others if we
always communicate online and stay in touch with them
frequently. Many individuals in our nation have experienced
physical, mental, and emotional suffering as a result of this
epidemic, and I think that just asking them how they are
handling things would help them feel better—that is, even if
you are not physically there for them, you will still be
remembered and loved.
3. How did the pandemic affect the way you treat people? How do you
interact with other people?
The epidemic has greatly influenced my current approach to treating
others. We have spent a very long period apart from our homes as a result
of our circumstances. My physical communication skills have
deteriorated since I can only contact with my friends and family on social
media. My social anxiety also becomes worse the longer I'm alone. This
epidemic has a significant impact on how I treat other people as well as
how I communicate.

Share Your Thoughts and Feelings

Make a symbol that can serve as your reminder to always respect people no
matter who they are and where they come from. Do this on a short bond
paper.

My chosen symbol is the equal sign of "=".

Explanation:
Respect is something we should constantly strive for and begin with
ourselves, in my opinion. I have selected the equal sign since one's
function in society shouldn't determine one's level of respect.
Respect shouldn't be earned based just on your social standing.
Even if you are from a lesser socioeconomic class, you should be
treated with the same respect if you are wealthy.

Respect is the intense appreciation one has for someone or

something because of their skills, traits, or accomplishments. We
should treat others with the same respect in return for receiving it.
We shouldn't criticize someone based on their origins, regardless of
how different their culture and traditions are from our own.
