PROGRAM 3 : Assess the relationship between variable using Karl Pearson

Coefficient

Problem:
Find the value of the correlation coefficient from the following table:

subject age x glucose level y

1 43 99
2 21 65
3 25 79
4 42 75
5 57 87
6 59 81

Procedures :

Step 1: Input Data

Input your data into an Excel worksheet as shown in the table above.

Step 2: Load Analysis ToolPak

Step 3: Perform Correlation

1. Go to the Data tab on the Ribbon.

2. Click on Data Analysis in the Analysis group.
3. Select correlation and click OK.

Step 4: Set Up Correlation Parameters

1. Input Range: Select the range containing the inputs

2. Labels: If you have column labels, check the Labels box.
3. Output Range: Select a location for the output. For example, $F$1.
4. Click OK.

The range of the correlation coefficient is from -1 to 1. Our result is 0.5298 or

52.98%, which means the variables have a moderate positive correlation.
Output:
subject age x glucose level y
subject 1
age x 0.695581648 1
glucose level y -0.130664344 0.529808902 1

Conclusion:

Since correlation (0.5298) is greater than 0. It means we got

positive correlation. The range of the correlation coefficient is
from -1 to 1.
