1. Introduction
This document provides instructions for the setup and use of the Easy Load PCD for AU 8 Series
and is intended for use by authorized Beckman Coulter personnel only.
The Easy Load PCD that is mentioned throughout this instruction refers to the Compressed
Reagent Parameter/Application Files that have been downloaded from the Box Service
Documentation SharePoint and saved onto either a Compact Disc (CD) or External Memory Unit.
The Easy Load PCD for AU 8 Series is a tool designed for the automatic upload of reagent IFU
parameter settings onto the AU480 instrument. This CD also contains the parameters used for
the Water, Reagent and Sample dispensing tests performed by FSE’s on completion of a new
analyser Installation. It is intended as a labour saving device for ‘Field Service Engineers’ (FSE)
and ‘Field Applications Specialists’ (FAS) during the installation of new AU analysers.
The Easy Load PCD for AU 8 Series is available for download from the following location in the
Box Service Documentation SharePoint : All Files > Service Documentation – Dx > Chemistry > AU
> 8-series > Software > Other > B55160 Easy Load AU 8 Series PCD. Instructions entitled
“ATM133I Download Instructions of 8 Series Easy Load Parameters from Box SharePoint” are also
available in the associated AU 8 series Service Manuals.
A Parameter CD/External Memory Unit from any other source must not be used.
Please be aware of any parameter setting updates communicated via Applications or Service
Bulletins since the release of the current Easy Load PCD version on the Box Service
Documentation SharePoint - refer to this SharePoint for the most recent parameter settings
available.
The Easy Load PCD for AU 8 Series must be destroyed at the end of a new installation.
All files must be deleted from the External Memory Unit at the end of the installation.
Refer to the most up to date AU480 Service Manual for instructions on how to perform “Water,
Reagent and Sample dispensing tests”
Usage of Easy Load PCD for AU 8 Series on closed systems (additional information on pg14 of this
section):
Important Criteria for selecting a ‘Channel/Test Number’ (if this criteria is compromised, the
parameter settings will not transfer over correctly):
Must choose a ‘Clean/Initialized’ Channel
If the Channel/Test number has been previously programmed with reagent parameter
setting, then this channel cannot be used with the Easy Load PCD.
After upload of the new parameters the CD must be destroyed to ensure the CD is not re-used
for upload of additional parameters, at a later date, which may have been updated in the
interim.
After upload of the new parameters the files must be deleted from the external memory unit to
ensure they are not re-used for upload of additional parameters, at a later date, which may have
been updated in the interim.

NOTE: If required, perform a full back up of the system database before performing initalise
database.
Before loading the Easy Load Parameter CD for AU 8 series, the FSE must enable the LIH
Influence Judge Operation in System Maintenance. Browse to System maintenance>Setup
parameters>System Parameter 1>For Result:
NOTE: This is important if performing LIH as “non-dedicated”. By enabling the “LIH Influence Judge
Operation” in System maintenance, the LIH Influence check will be displayed in the DPR allowing for
“No” to be selected if running LIH as “Non-dedicated”. This instruction is only applicable to AU480
and AU680
Select the appropriate continent from the “Destination of Parameter CD” drop down menu.
NOTE: If you select “Asia”, be aware that the parameters uploaded will be the parameters from the
European setting sheets.
Click OK, return to PC Home screen and restart the Analyser together with the Analyser PC.
When the “Select Reagent” screen appears, tick the box beside the reagents to be uploaded
select reagents according to customer requirements.
NOTE: To use the ‘Catalogue Number’ search, you must use the configuration: ‘OSR6XXX’ or you
can use the scroll buttons to find the desired parameter. The parameters can also be displayed by
category e.g. Enzyme, Metabolite etc. Category options will vary based on the geography chosen
indicates the category options available for ‘Europe’ geography. If using this option be aware for
US, DATs and TDMs appear under the General Chemistry tab and for Asia, all chemistries appear
in the Miscellaneous tab.
Using the PCD to upload parameters when performing Water, Reagent and Sample dispensing
tests:
Important: for Outside US – Manual entry required for Manufacturer Factor for OSR6x78
Important: for all regions – Manual entry required for Manufacturer Factor for OSR6x47
This can be achieved by logging into the system using the following credentials
Username: MAINTENANCE
Password: BC_SERVICE
Ensure the system is returned to operator/customer login when this adjustment is complete
Once reagents are selected click “Assignment”.
Assign a test number, unit name and decimal point for each reagent.
a) When a test number is selected it will appear in yellow.
b) Once the unit name is assigned to the test it will return back to white.
c) If you overwrite an existing parameter the test number will appear in red.
NOTE: (Due to an AU software limitation only two of the same reagents can be assigned a test name
at once, if three of the same tests are selected and provided a test name, the test names will appear
in red).
Select Reagents that you want to upload parameter settings for by checking the box beside the
test name and Click load.
NOTE: The above screen shot is also observed when loading parameters from the external memory
unit.
Go to Home screen and implement the END process to shut down (Reboot system)
Turn on the system and verify that the parameters are loaded correctly.
5. Delete Parameters
Select the test you want to remove by checking the appropriate box.
Select Delete
Select Ok
NOTE: Before leaving the customer site this Parameter CD function must be ‘Disabled’ by the
‘Engineer’ in the instrument software
On completion of parameter settings upload from the parameter CD, return to system
maintenance menu and disable the parameter CD.
For Parameter CD>Option. Select ‘Disabled’ from the drop down menu:
The Parameter CD must be destroyed and/or removed from the customer site when the FSE has
completed installation.
All files must be deleted from the External Memory Unit when the FSE has completed
installation
The loading of the Easy Load Parameter CD for new installations is now complete.
7. Usage of the Easy Load PCD for AU 8 Series on closed systems after
installations
If operating AU480 software version 1.81 the parameter files will also be available on the Box
Service Documentation SharePoint in order to upload the newly launched parameters onto closed
channels. For upload of the new parameters follow the instructions outlined above for new installs.
Important Criteria for selecting a ‘Channel/Test Number’ (if this criterion is compromised, the
parameter settings will not transfer over correctly):
Alternatively, if the Easy Load PCD for AU 8 series is not available, open additional
clean/unoccupied channels, positions 103-120, through System Maintenance, and manually upload
the new parameter using the parameter setting sheet obtained from the Beckman Coulter website
