FEEE LAB IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

FEEEE LAB important questions for Written test 2 0n

13/8/22 10am to 11am
1A) Define conductor, Semiconductor.
Ans. Conductor: - An electrical conductor is material in which electrical charge
carriers, usually electrons to flow freely from particle to particle.
Semiconductor: - Semiconductor is a material that is neither a good conductor or a good
insulator but that conducts more electricity when heat, light or voltage is added.
1B) Define PN junction diode and Transistor / Rectifier.

Ans. PN Junction diode: - A PN junction is a boundary or interface between two types of

semiconductor materials, p-type and n-type, inside a single crystal of semiconductor. This allows
electrical current to pass through the junction only in one direction.

Transistor: A transistor is a 3-terminal semiconductor device, formed by sandwiching a layer

of one type of semiconductor (P or N) in between two layers of another type of
semiconductor. (N or P)

Rectifier: - Rectifier is a device that converts alternating electric current into direct current.
Direct current is necessary for the operation of many devices such as laptop computers,
televisions, and certain power tools

2A) Draw the symbol and structure of two types of transistors.

Ans:

OR

2B) Explain three different types of Rectifiers.

Ans.
FEEE LAB IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

Half Wave Rectifier: - A half wave rectifier is defined as a type of rectifier that only allows
one half-cycle of an AC voltage waveform to pass, blocking the other half-cycle. Half-
wave rectifiers are used to convert AC voltage to DC voltage, and only require a single diode
to construct.

Full Wave Rectifier: - A full wave rectifier is defined as a type of rectifier that converts both
halves of each cycle of an alternating wave (AC signal) into a pulsating DC signal.

Bridge Rectifier: - The bridge rectifier circuit is made of four diodes D1, D2, D3, D4, and a
load resistor RL. The four diodes are connected in a closed-loop configuration to efficiently
convert the alternating current (AC) into Direct Current (DC).

3A) Explain AND, OR and NOT logic gates with symbol and Truth table.
Ans:

OR
3B) Write the expression for AND, OR, NOT, NAND and NOR logic gates

4A) Write the IC numbers of following gates.

AND, OR, NOT, NAND and NOR
Ans: AND = IC-7408, OR = IC-7432, NOT = IC- 7404, NAND = IC-7400 and NOR = IC-7402
FEEE LAB IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

4B) Write the logic symbol of any five AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR, EX-OR logic gates.

EXTRA IMPORTANT QUESTIONS:

2a) Draw the symbol & V-I Characteristics (Graph) of P-N junction diode

Ans. P-N junction diode Symbol: -

V-I Characteristics of P-N junction diode: -

FEEE LAB IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

3a) Explain how bridge rectifier circuit using semiconductor diode works

Ans. A bridge rectifier is an electronic circuit made up of combination of diodes. In this

circuit four diodes i.e. D1, D2, D3, D4 are connected in the form of bridge. The A.C supply to
the rectifier is applied to the diagonally opposite ends of the bridge to the transformer and
between other two ends a load resistance RL is connected.

During the positive half cycle of the A.C supply, end A of the secondary of the transformer
becomes positive and diodes D1 and D3 are forward biased and conducts current. Diodes
D2, D4 are reverse biased and won’t conduct. These current flows through the load
resistance RL creating a voltage drop Vo across it.

During negative half cycle of the A.C supply, end B of the secondary of the transformer
becomes positive and diodes D2 and D4 are forward biased and conducts current. Diodes
D1, D3 are reverse biased and won’t conduct. During both positive and negative half cycles
of A.C supply the current flows through the load resistance RL in the same direction thus
generating a pulsating D.C output.

3B) Construct Bridge rectifier circuit and plot the nature of Graph.

Ans. Bridge rectifier circuit Diagram.

4a) Differentiate types of logic gates with Example

Ans. A logic gate is a device performing a Boolean logic operation on one or more
binary inputs and then outputs a single binary output. A Boolean expression that
evaluates to either true or false ( 0 or 1).

Logic gates are classified into the following types.

1) Basic Gates: - AND, OR & NOT.

2) Universal Gates: - NAND & NOR.
3) Combinational Logic Gates: - EX-OR & EX-NOR
