Lesson 1.1
Vocabulary: Adjectives, clothes.

Objective: To use the verb ´be´ in the simple present with adjectives.
• Adjectives
Explanation:
An adjective is a word that gives us a description about something or someone. For example:

Peter is friendly
-Maria is romantic
My parents are patient
There are appearance and personality adjectives. Next you can find some examples.

Appearance adjectives

PERSONALITY ADJECTIVES

• Clothes
Objective: To understand and use vocabulary related to clothing and style.
Explanation: Clothing is what someone wears to cover his/her body. Any of a wide variety of
articles, usually made of fabrics, animal hair, animal skin, or some combination of them.
The wearing of clothing is mainly restricted to human beings and is a characteristic of all human
societies.
Clothes are used in order to provide a barrier between the skin and the environment.
Wearing clothes is also a social norm, and connotes modesty. In most parts of the world, not
wearing clothes in public could be considered indecent exposure.
Examples:

4
Lesson 1.2
Grammar: Adjectives.

Objective: To understand and use adjectives to describe nouns.

• What is an Adjective?
adjective (noun): a part-of-speech that modifies or describes a noun or a pronoun
An adjective is one of the nine parts of speech.

An adjective is a word that tells us more about a noun. It "describes" or "modifies" a noun (The big
dog was hungry). In these examples, the adjective is in bold and the noun that it modifies is in
italics.

An adjective often comes BEFORE a noun:

a green car
a dark sky
an interesting story
And sometimes an adjective comes AFTER a verb:

My car is green.
The sky became dark.
His story seemed interesting.
But adjectives can also modify pronouns (She is beautiful). Look at these examples:

They were empty.

I thought it seemed strange.
Those are not expensive.
Note that we can often use two or more adjectives together (a beautiful young French lady / it is
black and white).

7
Lesson 2.1
Vocabulary: Daily routine.

Objective: To use simple sentences about someone's life and routines.

8
Lesson 2.2
Grammar: Telling the time.

Objective: To use a range of time expressions with whole numbers (+ o’clock).

Explanation:
When we want to express an exact time in English, we use the word o’clock after the number. For
example:
1:00 one o’clock 2:00 two o’clock 3:00 three o’clock
10:00 ten o’clock 11:00 eleven o’clock 12:00 twelve o’clock
It is important to state that in English we typically do not use the 24-hour time system. In other
words, we do not say 16:00 hours, or sixteen hundred hours. We would say 4:00 pm.
am: morning hours from 12:00am midnight to 11:59am. Then the afternoon and evening hours
begin.
pm: afternoon and evening hours from 12:00pm in the afternoon to 11:59 pm, one minute before
midnight, i.e.(12:00am)
There are two common ways of telling the time.
• Say the hour first and then the minutes. (Hour + Minutes)
6:25 - It's six twenty-five
8:05 - It's eight O-five (the O is said like the letter O)
9:11 - It's nine eleven
2:34 - It's two thirty-four
• Say the minutes first and then the hour. (Minutes + PAST / TO + Hour)
For minutes 1-30 we use PAST after the minutes.
For minutes 31-59 we use TO after the minutes.
2:35 - It's twenty-five to three
11:20 - It's twenty past eleven
4:18 - It's eighteen past four
8:51 - It's nine to nine
2:59 - It's one to three

• When it is 15 minutes past the hour

we normally say: (a) quarter past
7:15 - It's (a) quarter past seven • When it is 30 minutes past the hour
we normally say: half past
3:30 - It's half past three (but we can also say
three-thirty)
• When it is 15 minutes before the
hour we normally say: a quarter to
12:45 - It's (a) quarter to one
