STRESS MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES

Stress Management Strategies
How we manage stress differs according to the levels, causes, and
effects of stress, including personality types. Rabago-Mingoa (2017) stated
that how well a person handles challenges can enrich one's life since it is
stimulating and renewing. But when a person faces challenges poorly, this
response precipitates to a state of stress that is potentially dangerous for
performance and wellness. Too much stress might lead to poor physical,
mental, and emotional states and possibly affect performance and
relationships as well. Thus, we should learn stress management techniques to
reduce or eliminate the harmful effects of prolonged exposure to stress
(Rabago-Mingoa, 2017).
Here are some of the Stress Management Techniques, as suggested by
Rabago-Mingoa (2017):
1. Watching television
2. Window shopping at malls
3. Watching sports
4. Watching movies
5. Doing deep breathing and relaxation exercises.
These techniques are passive, thus sedentary. We are encouraged to
participate in various physical activities like exercise, sports, and household
chores to make it a more active lifestyle. Also, promoting physical exercise is
believed to aid the immune system through the reduction of stress hormones,
which has a potential benefit for cancer prevention (Winter et al, 2019).

Other stress-relieving activities include singing, dancing, and smiling.
Remember that a smile is the best exercise for the heart and mind because it
maintains a positive attitude. Mazo (2015) found out that listening to music is
the primary coping mechanism for stress among the students at Leyte Normal
University. Meanwhile, stress should be addressed immediately in order not to
cause further harm and damage. Yet, prayer is still the best stress
management strategy in silence.
