PART 1. Obtain a set of two black blocks. Handle the blocks along the side surfaces so that the temperature of
the blocks are not affected. We will call the block with less mass “Block A” and the one with greater mass
“Block B.”

6. Suppose a block of ice is placed on each block. Predict what might happen to ice for each block.
PART 2. Place the rubber O-rings onto each block. Obtain two pieces of relatively same-sized pieces of ice and
place them on each block.
8. Construct an explanation using pictures and with words for your observations.
9. Based on what you observed from touching the blocks (#5) and from placing ice on them (#8), explain the
difference between temperature and heat.
Clean up by disposing the ice, drying the surfaces with a towel, and returning the two blocks, the two O rings, and
IR Thermometer.
