How to force Windows 10 time to synch Last updated November 1, 2024

with a time server? Views 1,217,870

The time displayed by WIndows 10 is over 30 seconds slow even though I shut it down and restarted Applies to:
my computer less than 15 hours ago. I can't find a way to force W10 to synch the clock with a time
server. Windows / Windows 10 /
Windows settings / PC
I had a program (SocketWatch) I had used for years to update the clock with the NIST time server, but
it no longer works in W10.

Method 2:
time.windows.com server timed out and so did some others in the list!

This site https://tf.nist.gov/tf-cgi/servers.cgi, recommends using the time.nist.gov server,

which you can paste into the field.

" The generic name time.nist.gov will continue to point to all of our servers on a
round-robin basis, and users are encouraged to access the service using this name."

I figure this methodology has the least possibility of have a consistent "hard time out"
failure...

Turns out my problem was intermittent on a Uverse bonded pair, with in house wiring
changes when the Uverse upgrade was installed (a split pair and the Cat5e service cable).
Along with a failing pots line filter on one of the bonded pairs.

These results show me that Time Server timeouts can be and indication of internet
connect quality levels. Speedtest were doing fine except when the gateway/router would
go down, apparently from accumulated errors.
