What I Learned

How did I learn

And so What

Integrated Curriculum

I have learned that integrated curriculum is a mixed learning wherein students/ learners can learn in
various ways. They can be actively participate, produce skills, enhance knowledge and relates today
from the past, that can create meaningful learning experiences between the learners and the teacher's.

I learned by studying our lesson in social studies , by reading the different meaning that was given and
by understanding the following data and information. I also leaned by the experienced, way back then,
we also have this subject araling panlipunan.

I also learned that integrated curriculum having four core tenets pointed out by Beanne and these
includes ; integrated experiences , social integration , integration of knowledge and integration as a
curricular model. Social studies as an integrated curriculum helps students construct a knowledge base
attitude drawn from academic disciplined as a specialized ways of viewing reality.

Interdisciplinary Curriculum

I have learned that interdisciplinary curriculum involves using the knowledge view and curricular
approach that consciously applies methodology and language to examine e a central theme, issues,
problems , topic and experience

I learned by understanding everything that was written and by searching different meanings and
examples in order to go deeper and to understand well.

Also interdisciplinary curriculum is a standard base unit that addresses and assesses standards from
two or more discipline.

Exercise 2

Answer the following questions. Substantiate your point by providing relevant facts/data.

Enumerate and explain the importance of an integrated curriculum.

Integrated curriculum is important because it allows learners to pursue learning in a holistic way,
without the restrictions often imposed by the subject boundaries . It emphasizes the importance of
maintaining partnership with families; having knowledge of children and how they ; and building upon
the community and cultural context. It develops the child's ability to transfer their learning to other
settings.

Prove that araling Panlipunan is an Integrated subject. Cite at least three pieces of evidence.

Araling Panlipunan is an integrated subject to begin, it integrates multiple intelligences and learning
styles of learners . It integrates learning skills required in other disciplines as it provides opportunities
for learners to conduct inquiry , develop and display data, synthesize findings and make judgements. It
implies learning that is synthesized accross traditional subject areas and learning experiences that are
designed to be mutually reinforcing , this approach develops child ability to transfer their learning to
other settings. Next, it is integrated because it helps young people to develop the ability to make
informed and reasoned decision for public good citizens of a culturally diverse Democratic society in an
interdependent world . Lastly, it is the learning area that lays most stress on the development of social
awareness , empathy and firm commitment to our common goals as a nation . It entails the use
integrated units which enable individual to personally process, assimilate and systematically process
assimilate and systematically parctice wide range of values and life skills including work ethic.

Discuss the challenges and their corresponding solutions in implementing an integrated and
interdisciplinary curriculum.

There were many challenges in implementing an integrated and interdisciplinary curriculum here are the
following;

* Become sufficiently knowledgeable in relevant related disciplines to be able to comfortably introduce

and guide an interdisciplinary investigation.

* Find the appropriate level of interdisciplinary complexity. For most students , integrating introductory
level concepts from multiple disciplines will add sufficient depth to breadth their understanding.

* Convince students that the additional cost of thinking in an interdisciplinary fashion are worth it.

SOLUTIONS

* To become sufficiently knowledgeable, read introductory level material or topics to be covered from
related disciplines. Talk to collegues in related disciplines about concepts you will discuss in class to
instill confidence that you have a clear understanding of the fundamental ideas.
* Find the appropriate level of interdisciplinary complexity begin with a topic where basic principles
from another discipline are sufficient to offer a viable interdisciplinary examination of the topic under
consideration.

* Convince students that interdisciplinarity is worthwhile during class conversation and in assignments,
ask students to identify insights they would have missed if they have engage in a discipline specific
investigation to the topic and if the gain is substantial enough .
