1. If block A has a velocity of 0.6m/s to the right, determine the velocity of cylinder B.
2. Cylinder B has a downward velocity of 0.6m/s and an upward acceleration of 0.15m/s 2. Calculate
the velocity and acceleration of block A.
3. Neglect the diameters of the small pulleys and establish the relationship between the velocity of A
and the velocity of B for a given value of y.
4. Determine an expression for the velocity u A of the cart A down the incline in terms of the upward
velocity uB of cylinder B.
5. Neglect the diameter of the small pulley attached to body A and determine the magnitude of the
total velocity of B in terms of the velocity u A which body A has to the right. Assume that the cable
between B and the pulley remains vertical and solve for a given valve of x.
6. Under the action of force P, the constant acceleration of block B is 3 m/s2 to the right. At the
instant when the velocity of B is 2m/s to the right, determine the velocity of B relative to A, the
acceleration of B relative to A, and the absolute velocity of point C.
Exercise on Kinetics Rectilinear Motion
1. A man pulls himself up the 15 incline by the method shown. If the combined mass of the man and
cart is 100kg, determine the acceleration of the cart if the man exerts a pull of 250N on the rope.
Neglect all friction and the mass of the rope, pulleys, and wheels.

6. The sliders A and B connected by a light rigid bar of length I = 0.5m and move with negligible
friction in the horizontal slots shown. For the position where x A =0.4m, the velocity of A is
uA=0.9m/s to the right. Determine the acceleration of each slider and the force in the bar at this
instant.
7. The chain is released from rest with the length b of overhanging links just sufficient to initiate
motion. The coefficients of static and kinetic frenetic friction between the links and the horizontal
surface have essentially the same valve . Determine the velocity u of the chain when the last link
leaves the edge. Neglect any friction at the corner.

8. The motorized drum turns clockwise at constant speed causing vertical cable to have a constant
down ward velocity u. as part of the design of this system, determine the tension T in the cable in
terms of the y-coordinate of the cylinder of mass m. Neglect the diameter and mass of the small
pulleys.
