MegaStat Installation Instructions MacOS New
MegaStat Installation Instructions MacOS New
This version of MegaStat will only work with macOS Excel 2016 & later or Microsoft 365 (formerly
Office 365). After the installation MegaStat will appear on Excel's Data ribbon as shown below.
The MegaStat installation and setup is shown below. It is probably faster to do it than to read about
it, but the steps are shown in detail below.
MegaStat installation
Click the Downloads icon and then click the MegaStat_Installer_macOS.pkg icon.
(If your security settings are for “Allow apps downloaded from Apple Store only” you will get a
pop-up message. See the Notes section below for how to start the MegaStat installation.)
Click Continue to view the License Agreement. There are option buttons to print or save the
file.
You will be asked for your Mac password. Then click Install Software.
(You can also use an Apple watch to approve instead of your password.)
The installer will open an Excel workbook that will place MegaStat on the Excel Data ribbon.
As the workbook opens, you may be asked to Enable Macros. This allows the setup
workbook to activate MegaStat but it does not change your Excel settings. If you do not
enable macros, the setup workbook will load, but it will not activate MegaStat; however, you
could activate MegaStat manually (see Manual MegaStat Activation below).
By the time you see the workbook, the setup will have been completed. If you wish you can
verify that MegaStat is on the Data ribbon. Close the workbook and then click Close to exit
the installer.
The installer will then ask if you want to move the installer file from Downloads to Trash.
Although the installer is not required to run MegaStat, it is probably a good idea to keep it in
case you ever need to reinstall MegaStat.
Whenever you open Excel, MegaStat will be available on the Data ribbon.
Notes:
MegaStat.xlam is the add-in file. The MegaStat_Help folder contains many small html files
that are used by the MegaStat help system.
The TestData.xlsx file is an Excel data file that is referred to in the MegaStat Users Guide
and can be used to practice with MegaStat. If you use it, you should move it to your
Documents folder. It is not a good practice to store data files in Applications because the
MegaStat folder will be overwritten if you ever update MegaStat.
Uninstalling MegaStat:
To uninstall MegaStat, use Finder to remove the MegaStat folder from the Applications folder,
then close and re-open Excel.
MegaStat is from an identified developer and has been notarized by Apple. If you want to
make an exception for MegaStat control-click > Open or right-click > Open the installer file
(MegaStat_Installer_macOS.pkg) in Finder to start the installation and you will see a pop-up that
will allow you to install MegaStat. Or you could go to System Preferences > Security and
Privacy to change the setting.
Manual MegaStat Activation
You shouldn’t have to do this, but in case you want to know how add-ins work, here are the manual
setup steps. The installation workbook does these steps automatically when it opens.
The installation program copies the MegaStat files to the MegaStat folder in the Applications folder.
Here are the steps in Excel to set MegaStat up as an add-in. MegaStat will then be available on the
Data ribbon whenever you run Excel.
1. Open Excel. If there isn’t a workbook open, start a new one or open any existing workbook.
3. In the Add-ins window click Browse… That should open the Applications folder. If not, find the
Applications folder.
4. In the Applications folder click the MegaStat folder, click MegaStat.xlam, and then click Open
which will take you back to the Add-ins window?
6. MegaStat will now be at the right-hand end of the Data ribbon and will be there every time you
open Excel.
