A renewable resource, also known as a flow resource,

A renewable energy source means energy that is sustainable - something that can't run out, or is endless,
like the sun. When you hear the term 'alternative energy' it's usually referring to renewable energy
sources too. It means sources of energy that are alternative to the most commonly used non-sustainable
sources - like coal.

Generating renewable energy creates for lower emissions than burning fossil fuels. Transitioning from
fossil fuels, which currently account for the lion’s share of emissions, to renewable energy is key to
addressing the climate crisis.
Renewables are now cheaper in most countries, and generate three times more jobs than fossil fuels..

These Cannot be exhausted and are generally non polluting

Slide 2

Some examples of renewable energy sources are:

Solar energy
The greatest potential use of solar energy is an energy source for low temperature water heating..solar
energy can also be used to produce high temperature heating, up to 3000 degree celsius.
(Solar technologies convert sunlight into electrical energy either through photovoltaic (PV) panels or
through mirrors that concentrate solar radiation. This energy can be used to generate electricity or be
stored in batteries or thermal storage.)

Slide 3
Giant windmills are called wind turbines with two or three blades each up to 30m long drive electrical
generators.

Wind energy is an indirect form of solar energy created by a combination of factors, including

(Wind turns the propeller-like blades of a turbine around a rotor, which spins a generator, which
creates electricity.)

These are some examples of renewable energy.

Slide 4
Non-renewable resources

A non-renewable resource (also called a finite resource) is a natural resource cannot be readily
replaced by natural means at a pace quick enough to keep up with consumption.
An example is carbon-based fossil fuels.

Energy is stored as chemical energy and at present they are our main energy source.

Slide 5

Efficiency of energy transfers

Efficiency = (useful energy output)

———————————
(Total energy input)
The efficiency of Device is the percentage of the energy supplied to it that is usefully transferred
