MULTIMEDIA LESSON PLAN

SYMMETRY
Pupil Teacher’s Name – Aditi Sharma
Subject - Mathematics
Subject Topic – Symmetry
Class – 6th
Duration – 35 min
The student will be able
to:
❖ Define Symmetry.
❖Categorize line
symmetry.
❖Compare Rotational
Symmetry with others.
❖Analyze Mirror
Reflection.
❖Determine Number of
symmetry.
❖ Show Smmetry with
alphabets.
 Identify and Define Symmetry.
 Recognize Lines of Symmetry.
 Classify Shapes Based on Symmetry.
 Create Symmetrical Patterns.
 Apply Symmetry in Real-Life Contexts.
The topic of symmetry is essential in the 6th-grade
curriculum as it provides a foundational understanding of
geometry and spatial reasoning. Symmetry helps students
recognize and analyze patterns, fostering skills in
observation, prediction, and logical thinking. Furthermore,
symmetry is an interdisciplinary concept that appears not
only in mathematics but also in science, art, and even
architecture. By studying symmetry, students gain an
appreciation for its application in real life, from the natural
world to human-made structures. This foundational
knowledge supports further learning in math and enhances
cognitive and visual skills critical for problem-solving across
various fields.

1.If you divide a square piece of paper into two equal parts, how do the
two parts compare to each other?
Answer: The two parts are the same in size and shape.
2. If a person stands in front of a large window and sees their
reflection, how would you describe what they see?
Answer: They see a reflection of themselves, where each side matches
the other side of their body.
3. If you place a mirror next to an object, how does the object in the
mirror look compared to the actual object?
Answer: The object in the mirror looks the same as the actual object,
but it appears "flipped.“
4. What do you notice when you look at a leaf or a flower carefully,
especially on each side?
Answer: Each side of a leaf or flower often looks similar or identical to
the other side.
TODAY WE WILL STUDY ON THE TOPIC
“ SYMMETRY”
symmetry

Symmetry is
when an object
has two or more
equal sides when
split in half or in
smaller pieces.
What is Line Symmetry?

Line Symmetry ,
also known as
reflection symmetry
or mirror symmetry
, is a type of
symmetry where
one half of an
object is the mirror
image of the other
half when divided
by a line.This line is
called of Line of
Symmetry.
This butterfly has 1 line of
symmetry.

This image has 2 lines of

symmetry.
It is a type of summetry where
an object or shape looks the
same after a certain degree of
rotation around a central
point. In , other words less
than 360 degrees and it
appears unchanged , it has
WHAT IS rotational symmetry.
ROTATIONAL
SYMMETRY?
Since this triangle will match itself 3 times as it is
rotated it is said to have rotational syymmetry of
ORDER 3
What is mirror
reflection?
It is also known as reflection
symmetry or mirror symmetry
, is a type of symmetry where
one half of an objector shape
is the mirror image of the
other half when divided by a
line calles the line of
reflection . In other words if
you fold the object along the
line of reflection , the two
halves would perfectly
coincide.
SYMMETRY WITH
ALPHABETS
RECAPITULATION

1. WHAT IS SYMMETRY?
2. GIVE AN EXAMPLE OF
ROTATIONAL SYMMETRY?
3. HOW DO REFLECTION SYMMETRY
LOOK FOR MOON, STAR?
