GRAMMAR
LESSON 1 : THE REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS
What are Reflexive Pronouns?
Reflexive pronouns are used when the subject and the object of a sentence are the same
person or thing. They are used to reflect the action back onto the subject.
Subject = Object
Example: I cut myself while cooking.
Here, "I" is both the subject (doing the action) and the object (receiving the action).
For Emphasis: to show that someone did something independently.
Example: She fixed the car herself.

LESSON 2 : THE MODAL VERBS
What are modal verbs ?
Modal verbs or modal auxiliaries express ability, possibility, permission, obligation.......etc. They
are used before the main verb in a sentence and are always followed by the base form of the
verb (without "to").

Common Modal Verbs:


1. Can – ability, permission, possibility
Ex: I can swim. (ability)
Ex: Can I leave now? (permission)
Ex: It can rain later. (possibility)
2. May – permission, possibility or probability
Ex: May I use your laptop? (permission)
Ex: Some students may not come tomorrow. (possibility)
3. Must – obligation
Ex: You must wear a helmet before riding a motorcycle. (obligation)
4. Should – advice, recommendation
Ex: You should study more. (advice)
Ex: She should eat healthy food. (recommendation)

LESSON 3 : QUESTION TAGS
What are Question Tags?
Question tags are short questions added to the end of a statement to confirm or check information.
They help ask for agreement or confirmation.

How to Form Question Tags: Examples


Positive sentence → Negative question tag
Example: You are a teacher, aren't you? They aren't coming, are they?
Negative sentence → Positive question tag You live in Spain, don't you?
Example: She isn't coming, is she? She doesn't like coffee, does she?
You're tired, aren't you?
He didn't call you, did he?
We will meet tomorrow, won't we?
Key Rules for Question Tags:
1. Use the auxiliary or modal verb from the statement in the tag.
Ex: He can swim, can't he?
Ex: You have finished, haven't you?
2. If there is no auxiliary verb in the sentence, use a form of "do" in the tag.
Ex: She likes ice cream, doesn't she?
Ex: They went to the party, didn't they?
3. Pronouns: Use pronouns in the question tag that match the subject of the sentence.
Ex: John is here, isn't he?

What is a Gerund?
A gerund is the -ing form of a verb that functions as a noun in a sentence. For example, in the sentence
"Swimming is fun," "swimming" is a gerund.
