script: Managing a Workplace Bully

Setting:

A small open-plan office with desks, computers, and a meeting table.

Characters:

1. Alex (The Bully) – Aggressive, loud, condescending.

2. Maya (Target) – Quiet, hardworking, often undermined.

3. Raj (Team Leader) – Calm and supportive, attempts to address the situation.

4. Priya (Colleague 1) – Empathetic, observes the bullying and supports Maya.

5. Nina (HR Representative) – Firm and professional.

6. Sam (Observer) – Neutral, avoids confrontation but learns from the situation.

Scene 1: Characterization (2 mins)

The team is seated at a meeting table discussing a project.

Maya: (Nervously presenting) "I’ve been looking at our outreach strategies and thought we could
try a targeted email campaign to boost client retention."

Alex: (Interrupts, scoffing) "Targeted email? That’s the big idea? Are we in 2005?"

Maya: (Faltering) "Well, research shows it still works for our sector…"

Alex: (Leaning back, sarcastic) "Maybe you should research how not to waste everyone’s time.
Let’s move on to something useful."

Priya looks visibly uncomfortable but doesn’t speak. Sam avoids eye contact, while Raj observes
silently.

Cut to Maya at her desk later, staring blankly at her computer, visibly upset.

Scene 2: Harm (Negative Impact) (2 mins)

Priya approaches Maya’s desk.

Priya: (Gently) "Maya, are you okay? Alex was really harsh in the meeting."

Maya: (Sighs) "I don’t know what to do anymore. Every time I suggest something, Alex tears me
down. I’m starting to dread coming to work."

Cut to a break room where Sam and Priya are chatting.

Sam: (Hesitant) "Why does Alex always target Maya?"

Priya: (Frustrated) "I don’t know. But it’s draining to watch, and it’s clearly affecting her."
Raj walks in and overhears the conversation.

Raj: (Addressing them) "This is becoming a problem. It’s affecting Maya’s confidence and the
team’s dynamic. I’m going to have a word with Alex."

Scene 3: Management (1 min)

Raj calls Alex for a private conversation in a meeting room.

Raj: (Calmly) "Alex, I want to talk about your behavior toward Maya in the meeting earlier."

Alex: (Defensive) "What? I was just being honest. If her ideas are bad, someone needs to say it."

Raj: (Firm) "Feedback is important, but the way you’re delivering it comes across as dismissive and
personal. It’s affecting team morale."

Alex: (Crossing arms) "I’m not here to babysit people’s feelings. If Maya can’t handle it, that’s her
problem."

Raj looks frustrated but tries to stay composed.

Raj: "We’ll need to address this further. Your approach is unacceptable in a team setting."

Scene 4: Escalation (Final 1 min)

Raj discusses the issue with Nina from HR.

Raj: "Alex’s behavior is creating a toxic environment. Maya is struggling, and it’s starting to affect
the team."

Nina: "This isn’t the first time I’ve heard about Alex. We’ll initiate a formal process, but it takes
time. For now, document everything and keep an eye on the situation."

Cut to Maya walking past Alex, who smirks and makes a sarcastic comment.

Alex: (Loudly, to Sam) "Looks like someone’s practicing their pity face for HR."

Maya hesitates, her shoulders slumping, and walks away. Priya watches from her desk, visibly
angry but unsure what to do. Sam continues working silently, looking conflicted.

The camera pans across the office, capturing the tense atmosphere.
