Other cities in the area also saw flooding, but the people at Venice saw the worst. Water has covered many
of the roads in the town. Firefighters have been working day and night to help people living in the area get to
safe places. In some neighborhoods, people are using boats to try to get to their neighbors to see if they
need help.

In other parts of the city, trees have fallen, creating more problems. Jim McCarley, a teacher and father of
three children, was just getting home on Thursday afternoon when a tree fell on his car. Fortunately, he
wasn´t badly hurt, but he did have to go to the hospital.

Read the text and answer the questions.

Charlie and Katherine wanted to go on a little adventure so they decided to explore a jungle.
They were having a wonderful time until they realized that they were lost. They were afraid.
Anyone would be afraid if they got lost deep in a jungle. Wouldn’t you? They were also very
tired but tried not to think about it so they talked about their friends and families. They had
no water left and would die unless they found some. They thought that the situation
couldn’t get more difficult but they were wrong. They heard a noise. Charlie climbed up the
tallest tree. Katherine wasn’t as fast as Charlie and was also very clumsy so she didn’t try to
run or climb. She was intelligent enough to know that the lion wouldn’t hurt her if she
played dead. The lion walked up to her to make sure that the girl wasn’t alive. He whispered
something before he left. Charlie made sure it was safe. “What did the lion whisper?” he
asked. “The lion whispered a secret,” said Katherine. “He said a reliable friend would never
let down a friend in danger!” “I’m sorry,” said the boy. “I made a mistake.” “It’s no big deal,”
said Katherine who had a good sense of humor. “The lion didn’t say that at all. He really told
me that the water which we are looking for is in the river straight ahead.” The two friends
ran to the river and drank the water but something was different. Katherine realized that
