Sodium carbonate reacts with dilute hydrochloric acid:

Q 2.1 Attempted

The student set up the apparatus as shown B 2/2

Student's answer

The first error is that the delivery tupe is placed in the

solution of the acid and the metal carbonate wich will lead to
the CO2 Not being the only thing passing through the delivery
tube.
The second error is that water is used instead of lime water.
Therefore the water won’t have areacting with the CO2 like
the lime water would (turn milky).

The student corrected the error.
The student’s results are shown in the table below

result.
Student's answer he corrected the error
so solution won't go
result 0.29g is an anomely because the result does not follow
through the delivery
the pattern. This could have a happened if some of the
tube but some gas
solution went through the delivery tube leading to the

reacting not reacting propperly.

Q 2.3 Attempted

Explain why does the volume of carbon dioxide collected C 1/1

stop increasing at 95.0 cm3
Student's answer

It stops increasing because the reaction has become neutral

wich means that no more increase in gas occurs.

They can add one last increment that is 1.0 or above to see if
the amount of CO2 is still at 95.0 cm3
