Retrofitting house project

Building information:

House building consists of 2 stories with a total built area of 368m 2.

Material construction:

Walls: Reinforced concrete for all solid walls. Some parts are made of bricks and some others
covered with wood layer from outside (refer to attached photos & façade drawings)

Openings: Double clear glass (6/12/6) with aluminum frames

Ceiling/Roof: solid concrete slabs.

Lighting system: LED light

HVAC system: VRF system

Please refer to the attaches photos and plans (jpg).

Requirement:

Team member: you can work on a team of two members maximum (including yourself)

Work Methodology:

1. Each student/team will first prepare their AutoCAD plans from the attached photos to start
their evaluation of the current energy situation of the building.
2. Create a base reference case and collect data of the building energy consumption.
3. Propose the retrofit technology (ies) and levels that you want to adopt to your project (at
least 2 technologies/ measures).
4. Evaluate the efficiency of each of these technologies separately and successively.
5. Compare the results with the base case consumption
6. Give your final conclusion.

Note:
a) you can use mathematical model or computer-based simulation for your study.
b) Please select a representative meteorological center for your selected climate
zone, if you know that your house location could be in one of the following
countries: Palestine, Saudi Arabia, France, Brazil.
c) Don’t forget to present the climatic information about your selected site in the
introduction of your report before starting your analysis.
