EXPERIMENT NO: 3

TITLE:- DETERMINATION OF IMPEDANCE (Z) AND ADMITANCE (Y)

PARAMETERS OF TWO PORT NETWORK (USING MATLAB SIMULINK).

OBJECT:- To determine the impedance (Z) parameter and admittance (Y)

parameters of a two port network and their corresponding equivalent model using
MATLAB simulink.

PROCEDURE:
1) First draw the given circuit in “New model”.
2) Choose suitable value of supply voltage and supply current.

DETERMINATION OF Z PARAMETERS:

THEORY:
The Z-parameters are referred to as open –circuit impedance
parameters.Z11 is termed as input driving point impedance when the output terminals
are open circuited and Z22 is the output impedance when the input terminals are open
circuited.Z12 and Z21 are the open-circuit transfer impedances when the input and the
output terminals are respectively open circuited. The condition for symmetry of Z
parameter is Z11= Z22 and condition for reciprocity is Z12 = Z21.

Z11= V1/I1 (I2 = 0) [from fig 3(a) ]

Z12= V1/I2 (I1 = 0) [from fig 3(b) ]

Z21= V2/I1 (I2 = 0) [from fig 3(a) ]

Z22= V2/I2 (I1 = 0) [from fig 3(b) ]

DETERMINATION OF Y PARAMETERS:

THEORY: The Y-parameters are known as short –circuit parameters .Y11 is

termed as input driving point admittance with output port short circuited and Y22 is
known as Output driving point admittance with input port short circuited.Y12 and Y21
are known as reverse transfer admittance and forward transfer admittance with input
terminals and output terminals are respectively short circuited. The condition for
symmetry of Y parameter is Y11= Y22 and condition for reciprocity is Y12 =Y21.

Y11= I1/V1 (V2 = 0) [from fig 3(c) ]

Y12= I1/V2 (V1 = 0) [from fig 3(d) ]

Y21= I2/V1 (V2 = 0) [from fig 3(c) ]

Y22= I2/V2 (V1 = 0) [from fig 3(d)]

Write another program for vin in output port to calculate Y12 & Y22 for fig 3(d).

REPORT:-

1) Calculate the Z and Y parameters of the circuits theoretically and tally those
values with the experimental values.

2) Draw the equivalent circuit for Z and Y parameters using the experimental
values.
