ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

Tính minh bạch trong Học thuật

WARNING Cảnh báo

Plagiarism is using someone else's words, art, data, or ideas and passing
them off as your own. Cutting and pasting is so easy that many people
plagiarize without meaning to.
San José State University (From the university's Policy on Academic Integrity.)

Doing academic work requires that the work you turn in is your own.
A paper that is written by AI is not considered your own original work.
It doesn’t matter which AI program/software you use. Using any of
these to write your papers is considered a form of plagiarism.
WARNING Cảnh báo

You Might Be Plagiarizing If You...

1. Submit someone else's work as your own.
2. Buy a paper from a papermill, website, or other source.
[Papermill: An organization that unethically sells pre-written papers to students.]
3. Cut and paste together phrases, ideas, and sentences from a variety
of sources to write an essay.
4. Copy words, art, or data from someone else's work--published or
unpublished--without giving the original author credit.
5. Use an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot to write your paper for
you.

A good paragraph includes:

1/ ONE topic sentence (main idea of the paragraph).

2/ Explanation/Argument & supporting details (examples or evidence)
3/ ONE concluding sentence.
There should be connectors/linking words to combine the three
factors above as a whole logical writing item.
STANDARD WRITING

1. The title of the story/the poem should be written with capitalized letters except for
prepositions, sometimes for articles. For example: For example: Romeo and Juliet – The
Happy Prince – Mr. Know-All. (There is no need to use brackets for the title.)
2. A passage/ A paragraph with good organization of thoughts LOOKS GOOD thanks
to connecting devices.
3. Contraction of words is not allowed. For example: don’t, I’m => do not, I am, etc.
4. MUCH QUOTATION is not acceptable (it is often applied for scienti c facts or
proving an expert’s opinions). Instead, paraphrasing is appropriate.
5. The format of a LITERARY ESSAY is like an academic one. Two paragraphs in the body
is normally accepted in terms of timing.

Two More Tips
How to Paraphrase In addi on to ci ng
Paraphrasing is not simply rearranging or rewording an original passage informa on correctly,
(herein the literary text). there are two other
habits that will help you
avoid plagiarizing:
Correct paraphrasing consists of:
Take good notes. Write
down all of the details
1.Reading the original passage, about where you found
2.Understanding what the original author is saying, the informa on you're
using.
3.Synthesizing (putting together) the information,
4.Expressing your understanding of these ideas in your own words and Don't procras nate. If
then you're in a hurry, it's
easier to make mistakes.
5.Citing the original author. (Here is the author and the literary work ==>
once mentioned in each paragraph)
