Text: Differential Equations with Boundary-value Problems, 9th Edition by Dennis G. Zill and Warren S.
Wright

Couse Description: This is an introductory course in Differential Equations. It includes a study of the
theory of differential equations, solutions and initial value problems, solutions of first order differential
equations (exact, linear). Mathematical models of first order differential equations. Linear second order
equations with applications and higher order differential equations, Power series or Laplace Transform
solutions of linear differential equations.

Homework and WebAssign: Homework will not be collected, unless specified. We will also have online
assignments through WebAssign which are 5% of your course grade.

Calculators: No calculators allowed.

Method of Evaluation: Examinations will be based on course material presented in class. NO make-up
tests or quizzes will be given (except for students on University business). An excused exam, with a
documentable reason, will be replaced with the percent correct from the final exam.

Quizzes (Best 4 of 5, 25 pts each) 10%

WebAssign 5%
Exams (3@20%, 100 pts each) 60%
Comprehensive Final Exam 25%

Final: The final is on Tuesday, December 13 from 12:00 to 1:40.

Remarks:
1. Final grade is based on a standard grading scale, i.e. 90 - 100% A, 80 - 89% B, etc.

2. This class meets f2f. Attendance is mandatory and will be taken daily. A late entry/early
departure will be considered an absence. When a class is missed, the student is responsible for the
material covered in class. Five or more absences may result in withdrawal by the registrar.
Excessive absences may result in unauthorized withdrawal which is equivalent to an F.

3. All work on exams, quizzes and extra credit must be your own. The university has a
straightforward policy on academic integrity.
4. Please check the Blackboard at regular basis. I post homework and other important information. I
do not post grades on the Bb.

5. In addition to your instructor, further help is available in the Mathematics Tutor Lab located in
Science East 2234 and in the Math Resource Area located in the Student Success Center, Room
1252. Lab hours will be posted at the beginning of the semester. No appointment is necessary.
This service is provided free of charge.

6. Students needing special academic accommodations and who have documented disabilities
should make an appointment to discuss these accommodations. Students with disabilities are also
encouraged to visit the Accessible Campus Community and Equitable Student Support office
located in Student Success Center, Room 1270.

7. Cell phones, MP3 players, laptops, and other electronic equipment/transmitting devices should be
turned off while class is in session. These devices are disruptive to the class and any ringing will
be considered an act of student misconduct.

8. Any changes to the syllabus will be announced in the class, and the students are responsible for
them.
