Mini Project (BEC586) Report Making Guidelines

All the 5th Semester B.E ECE Students are informed to note the mini project Report making
Guidelines as below:
1. The project report must be printed in bond papers, hard bound with a plastic covering.
2. Outer cover/Front page of Project Report/ to be Purple
3. Every copy of Report must contain
◻ Inner title (white) page in the format given (With VTU and college logo in color
compulsorily)
◻ Outer Title page with plastic cover (Format same as inner title page but printed in silver
color)
◻ Certificate in the format given in this document. The inner title page and certificate
must be attached with OHP transparent sheet.
4. The total number of reports to be submitted is one copy to the Department Library, one
copy to the concerned guide(s), Individual Copies depends on the batch group members.
5. Project reports should be typed neatly only on one side of the paper with font size 12 in
Times New Roman format with 1.5cm line spacing on a A4 size bond paper (210 x 297 mm).
The margins should be: Left – 1.25″, Right – 1″, Top and Bottom – 0.75″.

6. The Organization of the report should be as follows:

◻ Inner title page - > Format and font size should be same as in the sheet provided by
the department.
◻ Certificate - > Format and font size should be same as in the sheet provided by the
department
◻ Abstract (Not exceeding 500 words)
◻ Acknowledgement ---To be written individual group acknowledging in the
following order (a) Chairman, Mr. C. M. Ibrahim (b) Director, Mr. C. M. Faiz Mohammed
(c) Principal, Dr. Mohammed Riyaz Ahmed (d) HOD, Dr. Latha R (e) Dr./ Prof. Guide
(f) Mini Project Coordinators Prof. Akondi Narayana Kiran and Prof. Induja P
(g) all the staff members of the Department Electronics and Communication
Engineering.

◻ Main body of the report:
a. Main body of the report divided appropriately into chapter, section and subsections.
Chapters, Sections & subsection to be numbered as for Ex Chapter 2, sections as 2.1,
2.2, & subsections as 2.2.3, 2.5.1 etc. numbered in decimal form.
b. Chapter number must be left justified of font size 16, Times new Roman ex:
Chapter 1
c. Title of chapter should be Centered and in capslock (ex.
INTRODUCTION) (font size 18, Times new Roman)
d. Section/ Subsection numbers along with their headings must be left justified with
section numbers & heading in font size 16 & subsection & heading in font size 14
e. The body of text should be justified having font size 12 in Times New Roman format
with 1.5cm line spacing.
f. The figures and tables must be numbered chapter wise for e.g.: Fig. 2.1 Block
diagram of a serial binary adder, Table 3.1 Primitive flow table, etc. Figures &
table must be numbered chapter wise irrespective of subheadings Ex.: Fig 1 of chapter
1 to be taken as Fig 1.1 subsequent figures as 1.2 etc. Table 1 of chapter 1 to be taken
as Table 1.1 subsequent Tables as 1.2 etc. All the figures and the tables are to be named
followed by the number. Figure number and name should be written at the bottom of
the figure which should be center justified whereas the table number and name should
be written at the top of the table should be center justified. Both figure no and name,
similarly table no and name text font should be 10, Times new Roman.
g. Equations should be numbered in decimal form ex. V = IR............... (3.2). All equation
numbers should be right justified.
h. Header & Footer:
 Title of the Project to be on the left side of header (Capitalize Each Word )
 Dept. of ECE on the left side of footer
 H.K.B.K.C.E on the right side of footer
 Page No at the centre of footer
 All font size to be 10
 No border on any page
 No lines for the header and footer

i. Appendix to be divided as:


Appendix A ---- > (i). Circuit diagram (ii). Circuit Schematic Layout (iii). Component list
Appendix B ----- > flow chart & code
Appendix C ----- > Data sheets (Relevant ones only)
Appendix D ----- > IEEE / Base paper

j. Reference or Bibliography: References to be numbered serially in order of occurrence of text


and numbered within square brackets Ex. [3 ]. Format for listing of texts & references

k. The following are the chapter order and contents are expected in the report.

◻ Chapter 1: Introduction – significance of the Project topic at National and


International level, ,Applications, Advantages and Disadvantages (10-15 pages)
◻ Chapter 2: Literature Survey, Scope and Objectives of the Project(8-15 pages)
◻ Chapter 3: Description, Novelty of the topic, Design and Development (10-20
pages)
◻ Chapter 4: Results and Analysis, Discussion (10-20 pages)
◻ Chapter 5: Conclusion and Future Scope (2-6 pages)
◻ References (1-5 pages)
7. Neither page numbers nor header footer to be assigned to Title page, Certificate.
8. Page numbers in roman format (example: I, II, III, IV…) without header and footer
should be assigned to Abstract, Acknowledgment Table of contents, List of
Abbreviations, List of figures, List of tables.
9. The reports submitted to the Department must be hard bounded with a plastic
covering. Separate sheets, if used, between chapters should be of thin paper.
Soft copy of the report, IEEE paper style project based paper along with
necessary data sheets and software details should be given in CD.
10. Proper attention is to be paid not only to the technical contents but also to the
organization of the report and clarity of the expression. Due care should be taken
to avoid spelling and typing errors. The students should note that report-write-up
forms the important component in the overall evaluation of the project .
11. Verbatim reproduction of material available elsewhere should be strictly avoided.
Where short excerpts from published work are desired to be included, they should
be within quotation marks appropriately referenced.
12. Before taking the final printout, the approval of the concerned guide(s) mandatory
and suggested corrections, if any, must be incorporated.
