Assignment Objectives:
Upon the successful completion of this assignment; students will be able to:
• Develop understanding of different fields i.e. epidemiology, public health, sociology,
and anthropology that play key role in health psychology to address health issues.
Dear Students;

Considering the interdisciplinary nature of health psychology, d ifferent fields (epidemiology,


public health, sociology, and anthropology) are discussed in your lecture. In this assignment,
you are given few scenarios, each presenting a unique health-related challenge. Your task is
to identify the appropriate field that is most relevant to addressing the given challenge.
Additionally, you will provide a rationale for your choice, explaining how the selected field is
represented in the given scenario.

In a densely populated urban area, there is a


growing concern about the prevalence of
substance abuse among adolescents. Sana is a
professional who is responsible for designing
a community-based intervention program to
address this issue. She is supposed to
collaborate with schools, youth organizations,
and healthcare providers, and develop
initiatives focused on prevention, education,
and access to support services. Her program is
focusing on harm reduction, health
promotion, and community empowerment to
engage adolescents and their families.
Hina, ’a health psychologist, is working with
a team of professionals who are aiming to
investigate a sudden increase in cases of a
respiratory illness in a particular region. She
has gathered the data collected from target
population. The objective of her study is to
investigate the distribution and frequency of
this illness within the population. She is also
interested in exploring the factors which
determine the reason of this illness to
spreading in the manner.
In an urban neighborhood characterized by
high levels of poverty and social inequality,
there is a noticeable disparity in access to
healthcare services. As a health psychologist
interested in social determinants of health,
Maria is conducting a study to examine the
impact of socioeconomic factors on health
outcomes within this community. She aims to
investigate how income inequality, lack of
insurance coverage, and limited access to
healthcare facilities contribute to disparities in
health outcomes. Through surveys,
interviews, and focus groups, she gathers data
on individuals' experiences with healthcare
access, utilization patterns, and perceived
barriers to care. Your analysis explores the
role of social structures, cultural norms, and
institutional policies in shaping health
disparities and healthcare-seeking behaviors.
Ayesha is conducting research in a rural
village inhabited by indigenous tribes with
distinct cultural traditions and beliefs
regarding childbirth practices. Her focus is on
understanding cultural perceptions and
practices related to pregnancy and childbirth
within these communities. Through
participant observation and in-depth
interviews with community members, she
explores traditional birthing rituals, maternal
care practices, and the role of traditional birth
attendants. You document cultural norms
surrounding childbirth, including beliefs
about spiritual protection, herbal remedies,
and community support networks.

Note:
Marks will only be given if the student has given clear explanations of the motives that
he/she has mentioned. NO marks will be given if relevant and practical examples from
the counselor's daily life are not given.

Only in the case of Assignment, 24 hour extra/grace period after the due date is usually
available to overcome uploading difficulties that may be faced by the students on the last
date. This extra time should only be used to meet emergencies and the abovementioned
due dates should always be treated as final to avoid any inconvenience.
