Q. no. 21 to 26 are very short answer questions.
21. Ans:
OR
Ans:
Alloy’ is a substance formed from the combination of two or more
metals. Alloys can also be formed from combinations of metals and
other elements.
Examples: Bronze – Copper and tin
Steel – Iron and carbon.
22. Ans:
Phytohormones are chemical substances, which are produced
naturally in plants and are capable of translocation and regulating one
or more physiological reactions when present in appropriate
concentrations. The two phytohormones are auxins and gibberellins.
23. Ans:
When we suddenly withdraw our hands on pricking a pin, it is a reflex
action. This type of sudden response to a stimulus is involuntary. A
reflex action is defined as an unconscious and involuntary response of
effectors to a stimulus. In reflex actions, a message from the receptors
is relayed by sensory nerves to the spinal cord, which sends
information for response via motor nerves to effectors. The pathway is
called reflex arc. The simplest type of reflex action is knee-jerk reflex.
In this case, while sitting with freely hanging legs, a strike below the
knee cap kicks the leg forward. Other reflex actions are coughing,
sneezing, yawning and blinking of eyes.
24. Ans:
The functions of testosterone are the regulation of male accessory sex
organs and secondary sexual characters like moustache, beard and
voice.
The functions of estrogen are the regulation of female accessory sex
organs and secondary sexual characters like mammary glands, hair
pattern and voice, and the maintenance of pregnancy.
25. Ans. When adrenaline is secreted into the blood, it prepares our body
for action. It speeds up heart beat and breathing, raises blood
pressure and allows more glucose to go into the blood to give us a lot
of energy quickly to fight or run away from frightening situation. The
blood supply decreases form the skin and digestive system and
increase to skeletal muscles. All there conditions help the individual to
respond the emergency situation.
26. Ans:
As the person is wearing half-moon spectacles, he should be suffering
from the eye defect called long-sightedness, or hypermetropia,
because his spectacles are fitted with convex lens. The convex lenses
form the images of nearby objects at the near point of his eye, and he
can, therefore, see these objects clearly.
SECTION - C
Q.no. 27 to 33 are short answer questions.
27. Ans:
A)
a) Neutral - D b) Strongly alkaline - C
c) Strongly acidic - B d) Weakly acidic - A
e) Weakly alkaline - E
B) Ammonia is a base. It forms hydroxide when reacts with water.
28. A) Ans: Copper from Sulphide ore:
2Cu2S + 3O2 ∆ 2Cu2O + 2SO2
2Cu2O + Cu2S ∆ 6Cu + SO2
OR
Ans:
Mercury from Cinnabar:
2HgS + 3O2 ∆ 2HgO + 2SO2
2HgO ∆ 2Hg + O2
29. Ans:
Stems are positively phototrophic and bend towards the direction of
light. The movement is due to the occurrence of more auxin on the
darker side and lesser auxin on the illuminated side. As a result, there
is more growth on the darker side which causes the stem to bend
towards light.
OR
a) Ans: Dual glands are those that performs two types of functions in our
body. There secrete some hormones for control & coordination& also help
in some other activities.
EXAMPLE: Pancreas secrete digestive juice for digestion of food also
control sugar level in the blood with insulin hormones.
b. Ans: Most hormones are regulated by feedback mechanisms. A
feedback mechanism is a loop in which a product feeds back to control
its own production. Most hormone feedback mechanisms involve negative
feedback loops. Negative feedback keeps the concentration of a hormone
within a narrow range
30. Ans:
31. Ans:
a) Allow the light rays to get into the eye.
b) The focusing of the eye is controlled by the ciliary muscle, which
can change the thickness and curvature of the lens.
c) The retina is a layer of photoreceptors cells and glial cells within the
eye that captures incoming photons and transmits them along
neuronal pathways as both electrical and chemical signals for the
brain to perceive a visual picture.
OR
Ans:
The remedial lens should make the objects at infinity appear at the far
point.
Therefore, for object at infinity, u = ∞
Far point distance of the defected eye, ν = – 80 cm
32. Ans:
(i) Right hand thumb rule is used to determine the direction of magnetic
field around the straight conductor carrying current.
(ii) Fleming's left hand rule is used to find the direction of force experienced
by a current carrying straight conductor placed in a magnetic field which is
perpendicular to it.
(iii) Fleming's right hand rule is used to find the direction of current
induced in a coil due to its rotation in a magnetic field.

Q.no. 34 to 36 are Long answer questions.

V) Ans:
35. Ans:
Functions of different brain parts:
1. Forebrain:
The "thinking section" of the brain is what it's called.
The forebrain is in charge of processing sensory information as well as
controlling voluntary activities.
The most essential component of the brain is the cerebrum.
It is the most important portion of the brain, and it is linked to
thought and action.
2. Mid-Brain:
It serves as a link between the forebrain and the hindbrain,
transmitting impulses from the latter to the former.
It also plays a role in vision, hearing, body temperature regulation,
and attentiveness.
3. Hind Brain:
It is the visceral function control center, which controls the heart's
function, heartbeat, breathing rate, blood pressure, sleeping, and
other bodily functions.
4. Cerebellum:
The region of the brain is responsible for movement control.
It is involved in maintaining homeostasis, synchronizing body balance,
eye movements, body posture, and other subtle changes to motor
motions while walking, running, standing, swimming, and other
activities.
OR
Ans:
a. They are: Phototropism, Gravitropism, Chemotropism,
Thigmotropism, Thermotropism and Hydrotropism.
b. swelling and shrinking of cells by loosing water or gaining water.
c. mimosa-pudica
36. Ans:
Ans:
b) The strength of magnetic field at the centre of the circular coil is
(i) inversely proportional to the radius of the coil and
(ii) directly proportional to the number of turns of the wire of coil.
