Assignment Title: MS Word Document Formatting Mastery

Objective: To demonstrate proficiency in utilizing advanced formatting features of MS Word, including


table of contents, citations and references, endnotes and footnotes, page cover design, headers and
footers, and page numbering.

Instructions:

1. Read through each task carefully and follow the instructions provided.

2. Complete the assignment using Microsoft Word.

3. Save your completed assignment with your name and the date.

Assignment Tasks:

Task 1: Table of Contents: (5 Marks):

 Insert a table of contents that automatically updates based on headings within the document.

Instructions:

 Use Heading styles (Heading 1, Heading 2) for the titles of sections and subsections.
 Choose font "Times New Roman".
 Go to the "References" tab and click on "Table of Contents."
 Select an automatic table of contents style.
 Ensure all main sections and subsections are included.
 Update the table of contents after making changes to the headings.

Create a document with the following sections and subsections about yourself:

Introduction

Chapter 1: Personal Background

Heading 1: Early Life

Heading 2: Education

Chapter 2: Interests and Hobbies

Heading 1: Hobbies

Task 2: Citations and References (3 Marks):

Instructions:

 Include at least three citations using MS Word's referencing tools.


 Create a bibliography or reference list that updates automatically.

Steps to Create Citations and Bibliography in MS Word:

Insert Citations:

 Place your cursor where you want to insert a citation.


 Go to the "References" tab on the ribbon.
 Click "Insert Citation" and then "Add New Source."
 Enter the source details in the dialog box.
 Click "OK" to insert the citation.

Insert Bibliography:

After adding all your citations, go to the end of your document where you want the bibliography or
reference list to appear.

 Click on the "References" tab on the ribbon.


 Click "Bibliography" and choose a style (e.g., Bibliography, References, and Works Cited).
 The bibliography or reference list will be generated automatically.
 Update the Bibliography:

If you add or remove citations, right-click on the bibliography or reference list.

Select "Update Field" to refresh it with the latest information.

The Impact of Technology on Education

Technology has significantly transformed education. Johnson (2021) argues that technology has enabled
personalized learning experiences. Moreover, Smith and Clark (2020) note that digital tools have
improved student engagement. Additionally, Brown (2019) highlights the role of technology in
facilitating remote learning. (Johnson, 2024)

Task 3: Endnotes and Footnotes (2 Marks):

 Add both endnotes and footnotes to your document.


 Format them correctly and position them appropriately within the text.

Steps to Add Endnotes and Footnotes in MS Word:

Inserting Footnotes:

 Place your cursor where you want the footnote number to appear.
 Go to the "References" tab on the ribbon.
 Click "Insert Footnote."
 Type the footnote text at the bottom of the page.

Inserting Endnotes:

 Place your cursor where you want the endnote number to appear.
 Go to the "References" tab on the ribbon.
 Click "Insert Endnote."
 Type the endnote text at the end of the document.

Task 4: Page Cover: (5 Marks):

 Design a cover page for your document.


 Include a title, subtitle (if applicable), your name, and the date.
 Ensure the cover page is visually appealing and professional.
Steps to Design a Cover Page in MS Word:

 Go to the first page of your document.


 Go to the "Insert" tab on the ribbon.
 Click "Cover Page" and choose a template or design a custom cover page.
 Add the title of your document.
 Add a subtitle if applicable.
 Add your name. Add the date.
 Customize the design to make it visually appealing and professional.

Task 5: Header and Footer: (3 Marks):

Instructions:

 Utilize headers and footers effectively throughout your document.


 Customize the content in the header and footer of the cover page differently from the main
body of the document.

Steps to Customize Headers and Footers in MS Word:

 Go to the "Insert" tab on the ribbon.


 Click "Header" or "Footer" and choose a style.
 Add the desired content to the header and footer.
 To customize the header and footer for the cover page, go to the cover page and double-click
the header or footer area.
 Check the "Different First Page" option in the "Header & Footer Tools" design tab.
 Customize the header and footer content for the cover page.
 Ensure the headers and footers for the main body of the document are consistent and
professional.

Task 6: Page Numbers: (2 Marks):

Instructions:

 Add page numbers to your document.


 Begin numbering from the second page of the main body, excluding the cover page.

Steps to Add Page Numbers in MS Word:

 Go to the "Insert" tab on the ribbon.


 Click "Page Number" and choose a style and position for the page numbers.
 To start numbering from the second page, go to the second page of your main body.
 Double-click in the header or footer area where the page number is located.
 In the "Header & Footer Tools" design tab, check "Different First Page."
 Adjust the page number format if needed by clicking "Page Number" > "Format Page Numbers."
 Ensure the page numbers start from the desired number (e.g., start from 1 on the second page).

Note: Ensure your document is neat, organized, and visually appealing. Pay attention to spelling and
grammar throughout.
