(UPAO) Cultural Day Event as part of the UEPAA 2024

Dear Dr. De Asis,


Greetings!
We are cordially informing you that the University Performing Arts
Organization (UPAO) will be hosting a Cultural Day as part of the upcoming UEPAA
2024 events. This celebration will take place on October 24, 2024 at the Academic
Building, and will showcase a range of non-athletic competitions highlighting creativity
and performance skills, such as singing, dancing, cosplay and more.
To showcase through this event their artistic and creative expression in the
culture and the arts. Each unit is invited to send participants for the following non-
athletic events hosted by our humble organization, in collaboration with the Political
Science Society, namely;
- Cosplay Competition
- On-the-spot Poster Making Competition
- Singing Contest (Pop Solo)
- Singing Contest (Duet)
- Hip-hop Competition (Group Category)
- Dance Battle (Solo Category)
We encourage your participant/s to pre-register online through the google form
link posted in our page, on or before October 20, 2024 (7:00 PM). Please confirm your
attendance by contacting Julliene Radam Espiña or Earl Karylle Acedera through
Facebook/messenger or email us at [email protected].
Attached to this letter are the mechanics and implementing rules and guidelines
of the aforementioned competitions.
We look forward to your enthusiastic participation in making this event a success
as we celebrate the cultural and artistic expression of our students during the UEPAA
2024 Non-athletic events.

CULTURAL DAY
Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR)

SINGING CONTEST (POP SOLO)

1. The competition is open to all bonafide students of the University of


Eastern Philippines (Internal and external campuses).
2. Contestants must pre-register online through the Google form
provided by the hosts to confirm their participation. Participants are
also required to provide a copy of their COR (softcopy/hardcopy) to
confirm their eligibility.
3. Contestants shall sing straight published Original Pilipino Music
(OPM) songs, in any language. Rearrangement of a revival of an
OPM song is allowed. Revival or adaptations from foreign
competitions are not allowed.
4. Singing must be accompanied by a minus one to be provided by the
contestants before the day of the event.
5. The duration of the song must be 3-7 minutes long.
6. All contestants must register and present a contest pass to the
organizers, which will be provided as confirmation after pre-
registering online.
7. Each contestant will be given a number to determine the sequence of
the performances.
8. Criteria for judging is as follows:
Tone Quality (Vocal Technique/Intonation) - 45%
Musicianship (Dynamic nuances, interpretation, diction) - 45%
Deportment - 10%

9. Winners will be ranked 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively.


10. The Judges’ decision is final and irrevocable.

SINGING CONTEST (DUET)

1. The competition is open to all bonafide students of the University of


Eastern Philippines (Internal and external campuses).
2. Contestants must pre-register online through the Google form
provided by the hosts to confirm their participation. Participants are
also required to provide a copy of their COR (softcopy/hardcopy) to
confirm their eligibility.
3. The contest consists of a pair (any gender) of singers.
4. Any form of genre and any language is allowed.
5. The contest piece should be 3-5 minutes long only.
6. Contestants must provide their own minus one to be submitted to the
organizers before the day of the event.
7. Criteria for judging is as follows:
Tone Quality/Vocal Technique - 25%
Blending/Harmony - 40%
Musicianship (Dynamic nuances, interpretation, diction) - 25%
Deportment - 10%
8. Winners will be ranked 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively.
9. In the case that a tie of score happens, another song is required for a
duel.
10. The judges’ decision is final and irrevocable.

DANCE BATTLE

1. The competition is open to all bonafide students of the University of


Eastern Philippines (Internal and external campuses).
2. Participants must pre-register online through the Google form
provided by the hosts to confirm their participation. Participants are
also required to provide a copy of their COR (softcopy/hardcopy) to
confirm their eligibility.
3. The competition is open to all dance styles (freestyle, hip-hop,
contemporary, etc.). Participants may combine different dance genres
in their performance.
4. Each unit must have at least 2-3 representatives.
5. The competition will be divided into four (4) parts;
a. Preliminaries to determine the brackets)
b. Dance battles
c. Semi-finals (top 4 contenders)
d. Finals (2 rounds).
6. Each participant will be given a maximum of one (1) minute to
perform freestyle. Performances exceeding the time limit will receive
a penalty or may be subjected to disqualification.
7. Use of hand-held or wearable props is permitted however,
participants must ensure that it must not pose any threat, or danger
nor cause any damage.
8. The criteria for judging will be solely based on the decision of the
judges.
9. Only one winner will be chosen.
10. The judges’ decision is final and irrevocable.

HIP-HOP COMPETITION

1. The competition is open to all bonafide students of the University of


Eastern Philippines (Internal and external campuses).
2. Participants must pre-register online through the Google form
provided by the hosts to confirm their participation. Participants are
also required to provide a copy of their COR (softcopy/hardcopy) to
confirm their eligibility.
3. Participants are strictly advised to follow the rules and guidelines
provided. Failure to comply may be subjected to a deduction of points
or disqualification.
4. Each competing team/crew must have a unit to represent. Each unit
must have at least 1 team representative.
5. Each member of the team must be an ally college or belong to the
same unit.
6. Teams must be composed of a minimum of seven (7) members
and a maximum of fifteen (15) members.
7. The routine must not exceed the allotted time of 3-5 minutes. Every
second exceeding the said limit is equivalent to one (1) minute and
will be penalized by a deduction of five (5) points.
8. The routine must have a 30-second music relevant to this year’s
theme, ‘Black Clover’.
9. Competing teams must strictly use hip-hop dance style ONLY
(popping, locking, b-boying/breaking, and party dancing) without
excessive use of the same move or pattern. A varied range of styles
should be shown in the choreography of arm, leg, and body
movement.
10. Dangerous stunts such as flips and tosses are strictly prohibited for
safety precautions and lifting should be supported.
11. Criteria for judging is as follows:

Performance (Creativity, Staging, Showmanship, Stage Presence,


Audience Impact) - 50%

Skill (Musicality, Synchronization, Execution, Difficulty of execution, Variety


of Steet dance Styles) - 50%

12. The judges’ decision is final and irrevocable

ON-THE-SPOT POSTER MAKING COMPETITION

1. The competition is open to all bonafide students of the University of


Eastern Philippines (Internal and external campuses).
2. Participants must pre-register on the registration link to be provided
by the host organization for their entries to be valid. Participants are
also required to provide a copy of their COR (softcopy/hardcopy) to
confirm their eligibility.
3. Only 40 participants will be accommodated for the said competition.
The selection of participants will be chosen through a first come,
first serve basis through online registration.
4. The theme will be provided by the facilitator/s on-the-spot.
5. Participants must bring their own art supplies aside from the ¼
illustration board which will be provided by the organizers.
6. Only the following art materials are allowed during the competition:
a. Markers
b. Pencil, sharpener, and eraser
b. Oil pastels
7. Participants will be given an additional five (5) minutes to write a
brief explanation of their poster to be attached at the back of the
illustration. Papers will be provided by the organizers.Entries must
be an original concept/design of the participant.
8. All entries must be done on the spot and must be completed within
the allotted time of two (2) hours.
9. Criteria for judging is as follows:
Relevance to the Theme - 30%
Creativity and Originality - 30%
Technique and Execution - 20%
Overall Impact - 20%
10. The judges’ decision is final and irrevocable.

COSPLAY COMPETITION

1. The competition is open to all bona fide students of the university of


Eastern Philippines (external and internal campus).
2. Participants must pre-register on the registration link to be provided
by the host organization for their entries to be valid. Participants are
also required to provide a copy of their COR (softcopy/hardcopy) to
confirm their eligibility.
3. Only characters from the manga and anime adaptation, ‘Black
Clover’ are allowed.
4. Only one entry is allowed per person.
5. All costumes must conform to the guidelines of public decency.
6. Participants must prepare a three-minute short presentation of the
characters to be performed after the parade.
7. The following is not allowed in the competition:
a. Profanity, obscene and/or lewd gestures.
b. Live steel is not allowed. This includes real swords, knives,
blades, etc. Props must be fake and dull to ensure the safety
of the students.
c. Fire, flames, explosive, flash powder, smoke laser and the
likes are also not allowed.
d. Organizers of the Cosplay competition reserve the rights to
have the final word on all the decisions.
8. Criteria for judging is as follows:
Craftsmanship and Creativity - 30%
Character Accuracy - 30%
Performance and Stage Presence - 20%
Originality - 10%
Overall Impact - 10%
9. The judges’ decision is final and irrevocable.
