should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
vii. Section E consists of 3 source-based/case-based units of assessment of 04 marks each with sub-parts.
SECTION – A

34. a) An aldehyde as well as ketone can be represented by the same molecular formula C 3H6O. Write 5
their IUPAC name and draw their bond structure. State the relation between the two.

b) Convert CH4 into CC14 by substituting hydrogen atom with chlorine atom in successive reactions.
Why this reaction is referred to as substitution reaction?

OR

An unsaturated hydrocarbon P has the chemical formula C4H8.

a) Write two possible structural formulae for hydrocarbon P.

b) Write the reaction conditions to convert ethanol to ethene. Write equation to show the conversion.

c Write the general formula for the homologous series of hydrocarbon P. How can P be converted
to its saturated form?

38. Pooja has green eyes while her parents and brother have black eyes. Pooja’s husband Ravi has 4
black eyes while his mother has green eyes and father has black eyes.
a) On the basis of the above given information, is the green eye colour a dominant or recessive trait?
Justify your answer.
b) What is the possible genetic makeup of Pooja’s brother’s eye colour?

c) What is the probability that the offspring of Pooja and Ravi will have green eyes? Also, show the
inheritance of eye colour in the offspring with the help of a suitable cross.

39. For a system of resistors, there are two methods of joining the resistors together as shown below

Fig 1 shows an electric circuit in which 3 resistors having resistances R 1, R2 and R3 respectively
are joined end to end i.e series. In fig 2, the 3 resistors are connected together between points A
and B, and are said to be parallel.

a) What is the total potential difference across the combination of resistors in series? 1

b) How are electrical appliances connected in domestic circuits? Explain why? 1

formed.
