Paragraph Development

A Paragraph is a group of words that talks about one main idea.

A paragraph can be just one sentence or a group of sentences and the ultimate purpose of a paragraph
is to discuss a particular point in an obvious way, after one idea is fully addressed in a section a new
paragraph is started to discuss the next idea

Parts of a Paragraph.

A paragraph has 3 parts namely:

 The topic sentence


 Supporting sentences
 Closing statement
 Connectives

The topic sentence tells the reader what the paragraph is going to be about. It foreshadows what is
contained in the whole paragraph.

Attaining coherence in a paragraph

Writers use transitions or connectives to attain a natural flow of ideas in a paragraph.

Connectives are words or phrases that link ideas in a logical way.

Proper use of connectives and transitions helps increase the quality of writing and enhance
understanding.
